      How to Improve Dream Quality?

My dream journal has now reached 10 000 words. It contains many dreams that contain fantastical stories and are fairly vivid.

After all my efforts i have only achieved 4 lucid dreams. Their are three characteristics of my lucid's:

      1. very short:
None of my lucids last much longer than like 15 seconds tops

      2. Disintegration of plot:
In all of my lucids their is no plot, or if their was one it completely vanishes.

      3. Low vividness:
When i become lucid their is usually very little or absolutely no visual stimulation or very little. I wonder why my non lucids can be so amazing and then lucidiy kills it

Needless to say these three thing make for very shitty lucid dreams.

So my question is, have you had these problems and how did you overcome them??????

      thnx
      A.J.

This is what I would do..

      To increase length:
      • Sleep in a long lasting REM Period.
      • Try not to get to excited thus awakening
      • Record the dream as soon as possible (it may be longer then you think)
      • Avoid reasons to wake up (scary thoughts, to much water lol, sleeping when not very tired (run around or something to waste energy)

      To allow the plot:
      • Continue doing what you were doing before lucidness
      • Make a new plot or remake the old plot (You have control)
      • Feed off of the emotions and so on before the lucidity

      To increase vividness:
      • Be tired (run around)
      • Look into supplements (I wouldn't) but a daily vitamin is fair game
      • Don't get caught up to much in the lucidness or control aspect (let it flow and progress though the dream like beforehand)
      • Try eating or feeling something it can bring it back (trust me)
      • Think of something you really remember (a favorite vacation spot or your room etc...)
      • Smack yourself (if you want lol)

Anyways... You have only had 4 so it will get better with time. Work on ways to increase them for now instead of trying to control them.. Quantity over quality until you can get both...
      Good Luck

Thnx for the reply Expulsion i will take all of your suggestions into consideration

I have tried using supplements inclcluding apple juice(week) vitamin b6 (moderate effects) and a b100 complex which i figure they should just call the dream pill because it gives me amazing dreams. I would prefer to be able to achieve luciddity without vitamins though.

AJ, I think the main culprit of these characteristics is that you have only HAD four lucid dreams. It's very common for the first lucids to be less than what you expected, until you get more comfortable with the dream and etc. and manage to keep yourself in it. Even with experience it can still happen. I think just keep it up, as you're obviously doing a god job (especially with such a lengthy DJ), and just give it more time and experience

I'm gonna move this for you to Dream Control and change the title, otherwise you're probably not going to get a lot of responses.

In addition to the good ideas by Expulsion, check out the dream stabilization tutorial. Make sure that whenever you reality check IRL you remind yourself to stabilize as well, so that your first action upon becoming lucid is to stabilize.

What have you done in those lucids?

In the next few that you experience, try staying calm. Instead of rushing off to complete your lucid goals, try walking around. Explore the dream environment and really take everything in. Think of your five senses(what does this feel like, how does this smell, etc..).

To begin on control, I would first start with telekinesis. It seems to be a pretty common ability that most people can do easily.

There is a very easy and effective way to increase vividness and lenght of your dream. Whenever you feel that LD is dissolving, just spin around. Sometimes I use this multiple times in one dream, and it works almost every time.

Thnx for the great suggestions guys. I will continue trying and WILL achieve the kind of lucid dream i desire.

To answer your question higuarshi i don't do anything in my lucids. I just realize i am dreaming and it is over very quickly. I did try to observe the environment in one of them xcept their was very little to observe. In another their was also very little visual stimuli xcept a a red thing which i actually exerted a some control over, moving it from side to side.

Disintegration of the plot is a good thing. Getting too involved in the plot is what makes you lose your lucidity. They can't be disintegrating that badly if you lucidity isn't lasting very long. Distancing yourself from the plot is essential for having longer lucids.

Being that this was exactly how my first few lucids played out (ending in a matter of seconds), I would give you the same advice that I took in order to get 10 minute lucids:

      Keep trying.

For vividness, try verbal commands. It really helps to say something like, "Increase vividness, NOW!", but you truly have to expect it to happen, otherwise you're just saying nonsense.
