Stickiness
To give yourself the confidence needed to use telekinesis, you can practice the concept of mentally manipulating object movements in a way that is at first easier to comprehend. One of the first steps in controlling things is to take a light object and simply stick it to your hand. Since you do have to use some control to keep the object stuck to your hand you are learning the basics of mentally controlling objects, even though this time you are physically touching it.
Force Manipulation
There are many forces that we can imagine to exist in dreams, and which can be manipulated in lucid dreams to move objects around. For example, gravity doesn't really exist, but you expect it to. By manipulating it, you can enable yourself to fly or jump to super heights. In regards to telekinesis, one force to 'emulate' is the feeling of magnetism.' Imagine that your hand is one end of the magnet and the object is the other. They will pull towards each other or repel each other, depending on what you want.
For Star Wars fans The Force provides a simple method of telekinesis. Using forces on the object rather than willing them to move seems like a common method of telekinesis.
Imaginary Links
Another common method of telekinesis is to imagine a physical, but invisible link between your hand and the object. This cements in your mind that you have control of the object and makes it easier for the brain to comprehend what it is seeing. An imaginary rope or grabber are common links.
Verbal Commands
Some people can just tell an object to move and it does. This tends to be useful for fans of magic, for instead of simply commanding something to move, verbally issuing a spell seems more common. Good for fans of Merlin, or Harry Potter.
Magic Wand
Along the same lines as verbal spells, using a magic wand can also be used to perform telekinesis and other magical tasks.
