Yea... In my last lucid I couldn't fly any higher than, let's say 100 ft before I dropped again. So I'll give it a go.

Come to think of it, there is an optimal height for flying in dreams.

Too high and everything looks so small that you lose perspective, causing problems like lack of speed or poor control.

Too low and things come at you too fast, which can also cause it's share of problems.

There is a sweet spot, a certain height, that gives you the best perspective for flying.

I haven't experimented with this yet, but I'd wager the faster you want to go, the higher you should be. That also means going slow at great heights would be a bad idea, causing problems more often than not.

Just something to keep in mind if you're going to screw around with flying.

I've always given myself a good running start and then jumping until I break entirely free from the pull of earth.

I usually try to jump as high as I can, the higher the better in my opinion, it's really exhilarating.

For me flyings at a low altitude is a breeze. I used to fly standing up but now I have started flying from a lying position which is great fun but you get a crap view of the world below.

Works for me anyways, but I think it should work well for everyone.

My reasoning being that well developed archetypes have a higher chance of working in dreams than less developed ones. That is to say that we are more used to moving around while in a standing position than we are while stretched out on our bellies. While flying with my belly to the ground, I seem to draw from my RL swimming experiences, where quite often my legs will "sink" rather than float.

I suggest anyone who has trouble flying give it a try from a standing position.
I find that if you just imagine pushing off of a wall of a pool and then imagine jets coming out of your feet. I also steer by pointing my hands.

Has anyone ever tried to fly and just end up floating up like a balloon with no control?

Hm. I have flown various ways, usually paralell to the ground or at an angle to the ground, which gives more control, if I am standing upright it is effortless but usually too fast and you just go straight up so then you have to summon a heavy feeling to make yourself go down a little, which is why I dont like that method. The only time I fly sitting is when I fly on brooms in dreams(once in a while...heehee!). Brooms add a little extra weight(not go as high as usual) but you can control speed and direction better. They're good if you're going to a specific place, like better than a car.

Come to think of it, I'm a much more effective flyer in a standing position, as well.

      best way to fly?

hmm, so the other night i was standing next to my gfs car and did a RC by looking at her license plate and realized i was in a dream. So i jumped up as high as I could. I made it all the way up to a street light and just hovered there for a few seconds.. i decided to lay horizontal just cause...well thats how I wanted to do it. next thing I know I crash land and destroyed my gfs car haha. next time I'll just try it straight up.

Seated works as well, i.e, "indian style", legs crossed.

I find that intention, active will, can often interfere with my ability to control the trajectory, rather than support it.

So I have taken to just relaxing, centering, with my objectives loosely engaged.

Recently, I began visualizing a fractal cube in my cerebellum, at the back of the head, to amplify my intent. This works.

For me, I don't really fly at high speeds, but I rather like to float around about 10 ft off the ground. It never really gives me much trouble, I just sorta will where I want to go, and I float over in that direction. It's almost as if I'm on a cushion of air, or an invisible, low flying cloud. XD

im really bad at flying, just can't get over the idea of gravity. so what i've been doing lately is repeatedly teleporting myself through the air. so its basically like teleport, start falling, teleport again, start falling again, teleport again, etc. its very mentally straining but it works lol.

Only had one real Lucid dream and thats exactly what I did. Feels so good when you finally get that one last leap you know is going to get you airbourne. Though I used heat conviction and an explosion underneath my feet like a rocket or something.

Like I said, only had one lucid, really hope this continues.
