      Best way to fly

I recently discovered the absolute best way to fly in dreams. It's not stretched out parallel to the ground like superman, but standing up straight, or even in a sitting position like driving a car.

Works for me anyways, but I think it should work well for everyone.

My reasoning being that well developed archetypes have a higher chance of working in dreams than less developed ones. That is to say that we are more used to moving around while in a standing position than we are while stretched out on our bellies. While flying with my belly to the ground, I seem to draw from my RL swimming experiences, where quite often my legs will "sink" rather than float.

I suggest anyone who has trouble flying give it a try from a standing position.

whenever I fly in dreams (if lucid or not) I fly in a standing position.
It is an amazing feeling and easy to learn, so try it

thanks for the tip, i also get the feeling i'm swimming rather than flying with my stomach facing the ground.

Wow, good idea. I've never been able to fly properly. Besides when I was a little kid. When I didn't even realise dreams were dreams.
I'll try it next time I'm lucid.

      i seem to be able to do it just fine by jumping and then giving a few good hard flaps in the air every once in a while. its more fun that way i think;

I agree flopping around in the air can be interesting if not a little frustrating, but when you want acceleration and crisp cornering, doing it while standing up straight is the way to go.

At first, learning to fly was difficult, I would lose altitude, could not fly on command, could not fly for long, but the more I tried.. it's like I had to focus SO hard on what I was doing, I would grimace and grit my teeth and then I was learning how to concentrate on flying. My last 2 LD's... I noticed that I am getting so much better at flying. I think it's something you just have to train your mind to do. My last LD... I made it last a while. ... I found my boyfriend in my dream and stayed in a room with him too long, sitting still and the moment after I put a pair of headphones on my head, I surfaced and noticed myself awake behind my eyelids... like I popped back to earth again, lol. So, If I'm not running around exploring my world...I can easily slip back.
OH, I also tried spinning around because I wanted to go to a mansion.. the first spin, it didn't work and the second spin, i opened my eyes again and I was in the same p lace but the scenery faded away then my eyes opened and i was where I really wanted to be (kinda).

And I get into flight like a plane does... I have to have some runway... hahaha... I spread my arms out to the sides. To gain altitude I stick my chest out and arch my back... basically all my muscles tense up and I look up.. to lower I just relax.

I can glide pretty well but actual flying isn't so easy.

Once as a LD experiment, I reversed gravity so that I fell upwards into the sky. That got me up into the air. But I had sudden vertigo and some fear, despite knowing it was a dream.

I usually jump from a building or window and go from there.
I am not sure what position my body is in, I assume I am in standing position.

In the few LDs I've had, I remember flying felt like a very natural thing to do, so I don't know if this would help people who have a hard time flying, but I would always progress to flight. Running would be first, then some jumping around, then big, house-bounding leaps, then swooshing around. Maybe if you have trouble just busting straight into rocket-mode, try to get increasingly fast/active then just fall into the groove.

      That make sense?

Yeah, When i flew for the first time i stood there and raised my hand to the sky and i think i jumped slightly off the ground, and that worked very well.

Or have your legs fly in the air first. I am like you, I usually sink and I found this to work quite well.

I play too much City of Heroes, so flying stretched out comes fairly naturally to me. Although, my speed is definitely limited by it. I might try this once I get out of my dry spell.

Another way to do it is to get a plank of wood, a little taller than you, and stand it up straight. Then make the wood fly while you hold on without any trouble. It's pretty fun.

I started flying by swimming in air , face the direction you want to go and to breast-stroke, easy peasy.

but now i dont do it cos its laborious and silly so i do the ghost type of flying not straight but not alover the place either or swimming.

launchings fun i sometimes run and do forward flips into a flying state

Jumping of really tall stuff is fun though, even if you're not flying. Nice view.

      Straight to the ground! *whoosh*

The only time I've had a flying dream, It wasn't a LD, but I sat cross-legged in the air and just floated around, but I don't remember how I got up there. :/

I flew on a forward facing hoverboard (think Green Goblin), through my old high school, in a standing position, last night. Not the same thing at all, but I started out just raising myself off the ground, from a standing position, in the auditorium because I did not want to sit through an episode of DBZ in my dreams. I think I became lucid solely for that reason. . .

Anyways, before I started to fall back into the dream, keeping only a sliver of lucidity to direct my own actions, it was definitely a bit easier to control my flight. There was a significant increase in flying difficulty when I suddenly found myself on the hoverboard. It still let me go much faster than I'm normally capable of. It was nice. However, I don't know if it's worth messing with the working schemata I've already got in place. . .

I just had a cool non-LD dream where I flew. What was interesting about the flying though was that, even though I was flying horizontally and everything, the whole motion and feeling of it was very much like I was ice skating. It was almost as if my whole body was like the blade of the skate and I was carving back and forth to fly where I wanted. Now I just need to LD and try it out again...

This is retarded, cant believe i never tried this before but simply looking up or down/direction you want to go worked for me.....so obvious
Also, tensing up all the muscles in my body seemed to help a bit, good fun flying through the tea fields....weeeeeeeee
