      Seeing Faces?

no matter whether i am having a lucid dream or not, i can't see faces very clearly. i know who i'm talking to, but i can't make out there face. on one side, i guess this is my dream sign. but i'd really like to be able to focus better. any suggestions?

Ever tried voice commands in your lucid dreams?

Like yelling "Sharp view" while looking at a face.
Or try "auto focus" as voice command.

Those voice commands dont always work, but quite often they do!

I think that's a common problem among dreamers. I'm not really sure if the reason we cant see their faces is because are they just not there or are we just forgetting what they looked like because so much detail is required to remember? I dunno if i even made sense. It's probably the first one

i totally get what your saying about how there is alot of detail to remember in a face. i know who the person is, can hear their voice, see their body frame, but it's always their face that is blurred. that's a very interesting point you brought up and i had never thought of it that way.

      ooo idea

I thought of a good idea....I will try this myself lol...

1.Choose a face you want to have in dream...
2.Get a nice picture of the face.
3.Stare and look at all the different things on the face.(nose shape, eye color, etc.)
4.The longer you stare the more imbedded in your head it will be.
5.The face will probably be ALOT clearer next time it's in your dream...

I never tried this but it sounds about right....

As an artist I know how difficult it can be to remember people's faces. Sometimes I will try to draw someone from memory, and it usually looks a bit like them but not too good...but I can always get the body right, that's easy. So why would we assume that our minds can magically remember and draw in the faces when we can't do it in our waking state? I think that's why alot of times the people in my dreams are distorted versions of how they really look. Sometimes though I do get clear faces when either I am not trying too hard and it just happens that they are there and they are clear...or I look directly at their bluriness and try to picture them and then their face usually forms into what it should be. Though sometimes when I'm doing that someone else might pop into my head and it will end up turning into that other person, which is annoying.[/i]

I wonder if it's the same problem as with trying to read text - certain parts of the brain are very inactive during dreams, and perhaps facial recognition (a very specialized part of the brain) is not being used during REM sleep?

it's a common occurance when dreaming, even the scenry can be blurry to people, for me i just try to focus on the environment/person/object (still working on it..grr..)

It might be because faces are all so vastly different from one another yet the difference in actual shapes and sizes is never more than millimeters. Im sure its the same as text, too much information. But I know there are people here who can read text in dreams, and I have always seen faces very clearly in my dreams.

It prolly has to do with conditioning and your mind and memory and all. I used to draw caricatures in a theme park so Ive studied and seen thousands of faces, thats why I see them very clearly in dreams. But in my dreams I am always in the same setting, either my house or someplace I know, and in real life I never travel or anything or hardly ever visit new places. This is part of why dreams are so interesting and so reflective of real life I guess, or the other way around...
