Read few post and seems like people say nightmares give a better chance to lucid dream? Why is this? I have alot of nightmares, and i do get lucid on some but only so i can wake myself due to how intense and evil my dreams can become.
Is that the point? scare your self to where u want to wake urself up then stop ur self and take control of the nightmare and turn into a lucid dream?
I think nightmares are more likely to induce lucidity for two reasons:
1. More impossible things usually happen in nightmares, which result in questioning the reality of it.
2. Fear causes an adrenaline rush, which makes you more alert and able to realize that you're draming.
It is definately much better to take control of the dream than it is to wake yourself up. Facing the evil can easily make it go away, and then you can do whatever you wish!

Nightmares give you the intense emotion of fear. If you tell yourself before you go to bed that next time you get scared you will do a reality check.

I think this depends. I think that the fear or recurring theme of a nightmare will serve as a powerful dreamsign. On the other hand, depending on how terrified you are, it'll probably be very difficult to be able to think rationally, logically, and un-emotionally when the time comes. As far as dream control, same thing. If you're still in a frightened state, it could cause a lot of trouble, with you either simply reacting to the fear or just doubting yourself in general. If you could train yourself well to recognize the nightmare, stabilize the dream and your own lucidity, and then go into the dream, well I think you'd be in good shape.
Yeah, i'm working on fearing no man type of thing in my own dreams, i have gotten better before few years back i would wake myself up at the sight of horror, now i been able to stand long enough for sometimes they dispear but i still shocked unable to move like sp then wake up.
The first few times I got lucid, I was scared. Not necessarily a nightmare, but I feel pretty confident that if I were to have a nightmare I would get lucid off of it.
Nightmare increase the chance of lucidity. That used to be my most reliable way of getting lucid
But they can decrease the amount of control you have over the dream. Nightmares are basically the result of too much attention on one theme, causing it to grow out of control. So if you're in a nightmare situation while lucid, then by definition that is a lack of control.
By focusing too hard on a narrow band of possibilities, you're unable to move beyond it, which is what traps you in nightmares. Most of the time, getting lucid in a nightmare frees you from that narrow reality by allowing you to operate beyond it's confines.
I seem recently to have a nightmare about once every two nights. Well I have had about 4 nightmares in just under 2 weeks....something like that. Personally I blame the geography department. Our topic is natural hazards, so we have watched 'Dante's peak' (volcano eruption), 'The impossible' (2004 Boxing Day tsunami) and those are pretty gory in parts. And recently I watched 'The day after tomorrow' again at home which is basically global warming causes an ice age (weird, I know) but including all the dangers of the weather, and intensified. I used to get nightmares about tsunamis when I was little, often at my caravan, but I stoped. Recently however I started but about everything, and the nightmares were all or mostly when I was at my caravan. I think it's how the wind blows against the walls. I had at lest one nightmare similar to those films above, as in a volcanic eruption (but near my caravan), a tsunami And something to do with the day after tomorrow.
I should have realised that they aren't real. Ever heard about something like that in the UK? Also the details, like I was running away from the volcano and suddenly I was on top a Mountian and my parents had fully packed the car and we drove of down the other side...people don't just teleport lol. Any idea how I can remember to check? I could try it in real life and hope it copies into my dreams, but I don't think that I will get the chance to see a tsunami or a volcano where I am. I don't think there is even a Mountian in the first place anywhere near me. And also I don't think that I will get nightmares like that now that I'm home. Any idea how to purposely start a nightmare without being lucid or do it before sleep? I don't like nightmares but...:)
