Ah yes, the joys of perspective ratios.
In order to sustain a dream, you need to be focused somewhat on your environment, or else the dream falls apart and you wake up. The first rule of dreaming is everything requires your attention to exist.
Every method of flying has an optimal height. There are ratios between height and speed in which there exists optimal elevations to view your surrounding, thereby maintaining the dream.
Generally speaking, the faster you go, the higher up you want to be. If you're flying super fast close to the ground, things are going by you too fast to focus on them, the dream falls apart, you wake up. By flying higher you can find that sweet spot when things stop being so chaotic.
Likewise, slow flying (like levitation) is best done low to the ground. If you get too high when flying slowly, you'll move beyond that sweet spot so that things get so small it hardly seems like you're moving at all.
Your problem with levitating is you're flying too high too slowly. Levitation is best suited for low altitudes. If you're going to go high, you'll need to increase your speed. Or at least summon something in the air with you that you can move relative to, thereby maintaining the proper perspective ratio.
Cusp, I have to say, that was an amazing post right there.
In fact, I wouldn't have been surprised if the Dream Guides had put that out.
Well done :goodjob2:
