      Trouble 'expecting' things to happen.

When I had my first lucid dream, I could control anyone and everything. Now, I'm having trouble 'expecting' things to happen, as though someone's trying to smother my powers. Help?

Try to retrain yourself. Instead of going right to summoning dragon/wreaking havoc, start small, possibly by expecting an ice cream bar to be in the freezer (where it's supposed to be). Once you master this, you can move on to summoning an ice cream bar on the table (try the peekaboo method). Keep working up and up, and pretty soon, you'll be summoning anything you want to. Same goes for dream control in general. Just keep practicing!

When it comes to dream control, it is best when you have confidence. But remember that you don't NEED to be 100% confident to have something work. Nor does being 100% confident guarantee something will work. Sometimes, it's not that simple. You may need to practice at it, or you may need to try a different technique that's easier for your mind to deal with.

Also, not all lucid dreams are equal! Some are much easier to control than others. If you have a certain dream that's hard to control, I would think that it may have something important to tell you, so maybe write it down and think about whether or not it means anything to you.

Most importantly, don't be discouraged--keep trying, use different tactics, like shouting to the dream itself what you want or asking DCs for help. Dream control is a skill, so it will never just vanish. So don't get too worried about it.

Sounds like you start to doubt what you can do in waking life. When you doubt that it will carry over into dreaming.... Either that or your subconcious is tired of giving you what you want...take a break and dream normally even in lucids stop controlling it for a while.

Remember that confidence is an emotion, and the stronger the emotion the more effect it has on the dream. You can't just say you're confident, it's something you have to feel, something you have to radiate.

Don't confuse expectations with confidence as an emotion. Expectations by themselves are unreliable.

Thanks Cusp, but I know what I'm feeling and thinking in my own dream. If nothing else, trust me on that.

Wasn't meant for you specifically, just adding on what you said.

you gave me an idea. you could create a villain who actually is attempting to drain your powers, so you have to fight him to gain your powers back!

I practise expecting by running along and while I am going along, know that every corner I turn will have a (whatever) around each corner. Don't bother thinking that it will be there, just go along reaching into nowhere or anywhere to get something. Like I reached behind myself to get a rose for a girl not thinking it will be there, just doing it knowing I want a rose.
