of course it's normal! its all about being confident and believing you can do it.

I had the same problem, but it doesn't really happen to me anymore. Now, I have control, but the results are pretty unpredictable

Control will come with time and practice. Even LDing veterans don't always have full control.

I agree with Exobyte. To add to that though, - screaming "increase clarity now!" seems to help quite a few peoples lucidity within the dream increase dramatically. I had a similar problem as yours. However, - I tried saying this within my dream state and results were immediate. I'm not saying it's guaranteed to work for everyone every time, but it certainly does tip the odds (regarding increasing your lucidity within the dream) in your favor.

You have to learn how to trick yourself into controlling things, or gain enough confidence to just boss your dream around. Check out our dream control tutorial:

You're going to want to go with passive control--it's a lot better. For example, instead of making a banana split () pop out of thin air, try looking in the freezer. If you want to find someone, go to their house or ask a DC to take you to them, as opposed to making them suddenly appear before your eyes. Check out this tutorial. Above all, though, you just have to expect whatever you want to do to happen. If you want to use telekinesis to move a boulder, you have to really expect it to happen. Instead of saying, "I'm going to try and move that rock," say, "I WILL move that rock!" Confidence is everything. Remember, though...practice makes perfect. Your control will improve with time. Just keep at it. Good luck!

      I agree with Mario.

I actually got the hang of lucid dreaming, dream recall, and control relativelly quickly after researching it. One thing I have happen a lot is I am in a large building with very plain walls and long corridors, a lot of rooms. I guess it is kind of like a training room for reality checking and dream control.

I use the corridors and rooms to make things happen. For instance, instead of trying to have a friend appear, they are simply in the next room. Instead of trying to fly, I move the floor away from me...or look up and the ceiling moves down. Just simple stuff but I had a problem if too much was going on and I would get excited and wake up. I guess with how bland everything is, I can really focus my efforts. I mean after all, you are the one creating EVERYTHING in the dream.

It depends on what is it that you are controlling and also what your dream weakpoint is. Some cannot move when lucid and others cannot fly but I can fly since day one of LDing. Based on accounts here that say it can improve with 'practise' I guess it can. But IMO I think it's more to do with the make up of the individuals mind..which areas are offline and which are online, differs from person to person. Maybe flying makes use of the part of the brain that may be off even when lucid...I don't think practise can alter that chemically?...Anyway that's just my observations...who cares right? Another important ingredient about dream control is experience....the dream environment is made up of a lifetime of experience so to expect something in the dream it has to be based on experience of having seen the item or way it normally appears.
