I've learned but now this

I've learned to transform myself again just by thinking about who i want to become, my brain works really well in controlling lucids except for summoning. Any ways, i'm still trying to learn to paint my dreams, my question is this, do you have to focus and really know what you want to dream about and really want to dream about that subject or what? Hopefully you'll give me some good answers, thanks in advance.

So far it seems to work for me simply to know what I want to dream about and to affirm to myself before I go to sleep that "I will dream about such-and-such." I never dream about whatever it is if I'm not lucid, but if I do become lucid, it's simple enough to remember what I was planning to dream about; I don't have to have thoroughly steeped my brain in it.

Or, I should say, I *rarely* dream about whatever it is if I'm not lucid; sometimes I do manage to dream about it in a non-lucid dream, but that seems to be more or less just luck.
