Flying Methods

What technique do you use in order to fly in your LDs?

Personally when I experienced mine I, like most people, attempt to fly first thing. However I was unable to do so on my own, I got a bit of levitation, but that was all. Then I remembered using objects in order to acheive your goals because your mind finds this more realistic I suppose. So I summoned a jetpack behind me, this worked and I was able to fly a bit, but not to the extent I'd prefer.

What methods/techniques do you use in order to fly?

I used to just take off like superman - put my arms out in front of me and off.

One night quite recently I found my "steering" wasnt optimal. SO I had the idea to roll over and "sit" like you do in a driving position - so now I fly like im driving an invivible car. I find this way better. I also found I can do stuff like grab a hot girl and put her on my lap while I fly.

An easy way to fly for anyone is to do so from a standing position. We're much more used to moving around from a standing position than we are in superman position. Personally I usually default to swimming physics in that position.

Levitation is a good way to get off the ground, then just fry from your standing position.

The first time I remember I swam in air, but quickly started to like to soar like a bird. (Eh, I was a child.) I still do flying back flips to express Joy.

Swimming I believe would be easiest in any even it seems to me, especially if you swim in "waking" life with ease. It will feel more natural as something your body knows already.

iv begun flying in a few different ways, the most fun are having rocket feet and holding onto alot of balloons, when i had the one with the balloons some idiot dream characters were shooting the balloons ...my mind plays tricks on me.

Though, I have a problem with floating back down to the ground. What I did the past couple of times was just chant "gravity doesn't exist". Since it is all in your imagination, you are responsible for deciding whether or not gravity exists. I adopted this approach from the dream control tutorial and now I use it everytime (well the past 2 times) and it works!

Or sometimes I just jump and lay flat like I'm doing a belly flop, then before I hit the ground, my body is like forced to levitate. I usually just jump high in the air then act like I'm swimming though.

This woman messaged me on youtube in response to a question I asked reecejones87 about flying. She had this advice for me (2 messages):

"the way i learned to levitate was I practiced leaning way back, the first few times i would fall, but eventually the 'air' caught me and the next thing i knew my legs and everything were up off of the ground and i was levitating on my back sort of slowly spinning around. doubt is the only thing holding you back and if you truly know you're dreaming then there shouldn't be any doubt. keep trying. maybe reece will have better advice for you (she's referring to Reece Jones, of course)"

"since u can levitate, float on your belly a few feet above ground. then picture a huge fan under you. reach down and flip it on and allow it to blow you way up into the air, then take off and proceed to your desired destination. don't do it on your back, because if you are looking up towards the sky, then your eyelids might actually lift open resulting in you waking up and staring at your ceiling."

I fly superman style, but I think I'm going to use evildoctor's method from now on. I've noticed it's hard for me to steer too.

Ever since watching the Matrix flying got a LOT easier. :)

I read somewhere that the method you use to fly reflects your grasp on lucidity. When we first become lucid, we still cling to ideas from waking life. You guys who have trouble flying are in that first stage where you're learning to let go of the gravity idea. The second stage is when you start flapping your arms or swimming because you are still holding onto the idea of your dream body being physical. On some level you still treat it as if you were waking. You've seen birds flap their wings, so it's only natural that this might apply. The final stage is when you fully and completely realize the nature of dreaming and stop trying to relate to it physically. Instead of flapping or using rocket shoes, you start willing yourself through dream space. I use a method of pulling myself to where I want to go. I see my destination and feel an almost magnetic attraction between it and my point of consciousness. I can cover vast distances quickly without having to teleport using this technique.

Having said all that, it's important to remember that each dream is different. While I might be as lucid as possible one night, I might try to record the dream in my journal while still in the dream the next night.

But sometimes, its more fun to flap my arms! :D

I think the most important skill in lucid dreaming is to be completely self confinate. There is no I think I can, I think I can, you need to know; like when you fall off a house you know youll hit the ground so you do, if you know when you take that running jump that youll sore into the sky you will. one trick i use is to do an action that i know will cause me to fly like hitting the side of my leg 3 times and jumping, having that action ilimanates the doubt.

G'day! My flying has evolved over the years. When I first flew it was very cerebral (in my head), and was plauged with loss of flight, lack of altitude, and inconsistent ability. Then one day I had a dream where my heart (chakra?) lit up with energy and I flew to the moon in 8 seconds (similar to how speedbasssux describes above). More recently I had a wicked dream where I flew across the Milky Way in 8 seconds. That time I energised at my navel (tan tien). It seems to me that the further down my body that I energise my flying, the faster it is. I'm interested to see what happens when I energise from my base :) I wonder if there is a parallel to my psychology, and as I heal past wounds maybe I go up levels of flying ability in my lucid dreams.

Then why start your sentance off with those very words? I walk through Eden grab eve by the hand and then kick off until I see myself seated @ mount Zion with the horizion curved down into my perhiperal, My vision zooms to my destination in perfect clarity before I do. An entire army of soldiers standing at attention amidst all the weaponry does not even have time to glance at my as I set only a foot down we continue on our journey.

Straight-up superhero-style unaided flight all the way. Usually in a semi-upright position rather than a "superman" horizontal stomach-down position. In particular, I usually fly in a 90-degree-rotated version of my typical sleep position, on my side with knees slightly bent, somewhere in between fetal and normal. That's probably just what my dream body defaults to when there is no need to be in any particular position.

Ive noticed that the more lucid you are, and I mean like the layers, the easier its going to be to fly, dont get me wrong you could be layer 4 and fly, but I dont really go by the layers because ive forgotten them, lol, but the more lucid you are, the better you will be able to fly, and I think this has to do with a mix of confidence, and of course lucidity. When Im lucid, and i really know I am, and I start telling people in my dream that I know I am, and I mention that im lucid to them, it I guess powers the confidence and lucidity ( without getting over-excited of course ) to the point where you can do more difficult things.

Just keep trying :)

I build a machine like a go-cart with some weird design and make up logic about how it can fly. After I take off, I pretty much can just forget about the machine and fly by myself.

I usually get a running start, and jump up into the air.
I will be in the air, and do the motions as if I'm swimming.
So, if I want to move forward, I will do one big stroke, as if I'm in water.
I have to say, this method works very well for me.

Superman methods don't work for me, if I do that, I usually will fall.
Weird.

But, yeah, that's my method.

The other night I was flying through a forest preserve - about 20 feet up in the air - in my invisble car position. I came across a train station where a train had just unloaded. I landed and decided to find a girl and get laid. I saw a short but tidy brunnette with nice legs with a short skirt and knee length boots (Mmmmmmmmmmm boots....).

So I grab her around the waist from behind, fly up, twist around into my "car" position and start flying along. She said "What the F*&k are you doing" - then she said "OMG we're flying - you're just like Superman". So I said "Yes I am!" and started kissing her. I flew her back over the forest reserve and out over some wheat fields. I found a nice wheat field on the sunny side of a hill. We landed and entered PANTS OFF mode.

lol these are awesome, i really didn't think i'd find others that experienced the control i have in my dreams untill i found this site! from early childhood all i wanted to do was learn how to fly (dono why, could've wanted a car, or a dirtbike) and so in my dreams before i started gaining any control over them i started to fly by flapping my arms very quickly, well the dreams of flying that i would remember i would laugh at because it seemed rediculouse to me to have to flap in a dream... so i promised myself i would try to change my flight dynamics... i had a dry spell of no dreams for a LONG time, i had nightmares but no dreams at all for a couple years, threw those years i watched alot of anime and took up ninjutsu, and watched the matrix trilogy... my dreams started springing up in bundles about two years ago and i started having my flying dreams, in one i started to flap my arms and didn't get any lift and remembered my promise (i had essentially disabled the flapping affect on myself) so i looked straight up and remembered how flight was explained in DBZ and tht's how i've flown ever since, and actually thinking about it i fly everywhere i go in my dream i almost dont walk at all and run very little.... So to answer your question i gather my Ki and form it into a ball inside of me and bring it into my stomach and to fly i just manipulate that ball in the direction i want to go...
