Real-life physics vs. dream reality - not necessarily an obstacle

How many times have you tried to learn a new trick and couldn't. Like, flying or walking through walls? You tried to push your hands through that wall and couldn't, because deep inside you still thought: "Hey, that's a friggin wall, how am I supposed to walk through that?" Your palms were pressing against a solid wall that you could neither sink through OR punch your way through. Rules of physics from the waking life are so ingrained in your mind that you can't just reject them even in an environment you KNOW is not real. So what can you do?

Use real-life physics to your advantage! There are some that hold you back - but then, there are some that can help you!

I remember the first time I flew in my LD. Upon realizing that I'm dreaming, I thought to myself: "Up, up and awaaaaay!" And... I didn't move up an inch But then a strange thought hit me. I grabbed the sides of my jacket and started flapping them - like wings. And whaddya know - I started going up!

I never actually used that method again. Sometimes I just go up the second I think about it. But at other times I needed to run a few steps before I eventually took off. I gained height the same way I would gain speed in the waking world.

So... I figured "real" physical effort helps your doubtful mind to believe you can do those things, too. Because hey, how do birds fly? They flap their wings, right? How do planes take off? They have to gain speed first. Of course, you're not making as much of an effort - but enough to fulfill some sort of a ritual.

Today I learned telekinesis and walking through walls.

I never even tried telekinesis in my dreams before - figuring it'd be too difficult But isn't flying difficult? And I learned that! Ha! I went up - in the most ridiculous way! Ridiculous - and yet SOMEHOW logical. So, I figured I could master new superpowers the same way: DO something funny. Not just THINK it.

So in my LD this morning, I reached out towards a flower vase and then made a pulling motion - and... it worked The thing flew towards me. So then I pushed it back and it flew back to where it originally stood. Well, sorta... Because I dropped it on the floor Yeah, I'm a bit clumsy in real life, so even my superpowers in my dreams are Anyhoo... Notice how the gesture helped me? I sort of pulled the flower vase towards me, and then pushed it away. I didn't touch it, nor was it within my arms' reach - but this is generally how you bring objects closer or farther away from yourself: you pull or push them away.

But how do you walk through walls?

I did the same thing I tried a bunch of times before: placed my palms on the wall and tried to push my fingers through. I told myself the wall is made of liquid. EPIC FAIL But then I looked at my fingers again - and I noticed them sort of retracting. You know, like a slug's eyes retract when touched. So, I tried to push my hand into that wall. Didn't quite work out. My fingers were normal again and all I could do was push my fingertips into the wall only as much as their "pillowy" nature allows. And THEN I got this strange thought... I started making circular motions with both hands, as if I were rubbing the wall. It started to get warm - and a bit gooey, too. And suddenly I was able to push my hands and my arms right through! So I proceeded further. Then my forehead hit against a part of the wall that still felt solid. So I just closed my eyes and pushed on. Aaaand I went through!

Some people are naturals - they just walk through walls, use telekinesis, etc. just like that. Hell! The second time I flew in my LD, I didn't have to do anything, either. I just went up by 30 feet or so. Once you learn empirically that something's possible - you just internalize the skill, it seems. But the problem is just that: to make it for the first time. I failed just trying to will it or envision it. I keep forgetting about magic pills or remotes. But when I face a problem and sort of ask myself: how do I do that? - my mind comes up with this semi-logical, semi-crazy idea which simply does the trick:

How do I fly? Flap your wings! Duh!

How do I walk through a solid wall? Make it... less solid by rubbing it and making it warm.

How do I get that flower vase from over there? Reach out for it.

Next on my list: teleportation. Spinning does the trick, to a limited extent. But I have a new idea! I watched this movie "Ink" yesterday - and all dream characters would summon teleports with those little drums. Ba-da-ba-dap! - and a teleoport would just appear.

      Other ideas?

Interesting, I managed to fly, use telekinesis, pyrokinesis, teleportation and change the look of something all in my first LD.

Teleporting is an easy one, as long as you can see where you want to go.
Focus where you want to move to, picture in your mind what the view ahead would look like from that point, imagine yourself moving from the point where you are now and suddenly moving to that one point really quickly...close your eyes, still imagining the view from there, open your eyes and you should be there...That's what I did.

So I guess you should imagine moving from one point to another incredibly fast instead of imagining suddenly moving there...if that makes sense

      Pyrokinesis, that's an easy one.
Imagine an invisible stick with fire on the end, lower the stick onto the person, and, as in real life, they should burn.

I'm really slow with learning superpowers. I learned to change colors/appearance of objects by spinning in the very first LD I had and to fly in my second LD, YEARS ago. But then NADA! In the past year of regular practice in LD-ing I managed to work out a method of attainting lucidity, explored the dream world in various ways and mastered flying - but whenever I tried to learn something new, I failed.

Visualizing doesn't QUITE work for me - but I will try doing it the way you described. I also thought of covering my eyes with my hands (instead of shutting them/blinking) and spinning. Another way is to look at something detached from the surroundings - like, straight up into the sky and spinning. I changed the surroundings (and the time of the year, even) that way once!
