LiveInTheDream's Flying Tutorial for the Logically-Minded

(NOTE: Even if you don't consider yourself to be logically minded, if you have had trouble flying in your dreams, this still might help you out.)

      INTRODUCTION:
If you're like me, you've probably done a lot with computers in your lifetime, and it probably has greatly influenced the way you think. Or perhaps you're one of those people that just thinks logically by nature. Either way, while being a logical person can be very helpful during waking hours, it can be equally as detrimental, if not more so, during a lucid dream. Even though certain parts of the dream can be much more vivid with a dose of logic thrown in, certain things like flying become very difficult.

THE PROBLEM: The main solution that I've heard thus far for flying: lose the logic. Believe that you can fly, and you will. Just remember that it's a dream and anything is possible.
That never worked for me. I could believe all I wanted to and remember that it was a dream, but then when I tried to fly I'd simply glide at best, or I'd lose the dream from trying to force-control my mind. I definitely couldn't just think and start floating in the air.

THE SOLUTION: Rather than trying to get rid of logic, I've found and tried a way to fly that uses logic, therefore holding the dream together and giving you the full ability to fly.

HOW TO DO IT: Doing this is quite simple. Since this is logic we're talking about, and lucid dreaming, it all takes place in the mind (duh, right?). Ok, bear with me. Say you're in a lucid dream. You keep trying to fly, but, as expected, it just isn't working. No need to flap your arms or anything like that, just ask yourself: "What's holding me down?" That's right. It's easy to try to force yourself up when it's down that is really concerning you, subconsciously. "What's holding me down?" Then keep going, following where that path leads... "Gravity? No, there is no gravity. How could there be? This is a dream. Then why am I not floating? Why am I not being pulled left or right or forward or back?" And that's where the believing part comes in. You believe that you'll stick to the ground and have to walk around to go any other direction because it's easy for you to believe, when you don't stop and think about the full absence of gravity or anti-gravity. "So that means...the only reason I'm anywhere is because I think I'm going to be there. Nothing is holding me down!" If you think about that fact until you are entirely convinced of it, and reason out in your mind why that's true, you'll be able to take off in no time. Congrats, you've just used logic to fly!

OTHER THOUGHTS: "Won't it wake me up if I use the logic part of my brain, which is supposed to be shut down during sleep?" Not necessarily. Think through this while you're awake and it can apply to your dreams like a memory.
"What methods of induction has this been tried with?" I've only personally applied this while WILDing, so I can only guarantee success with that one method. I haven't been too successful at DILD lately or I'd try it there, too. My guess is that it's a 'one size fits all' kind of deal, though. Once you've flown in one lucid dream, it should start to come pretty naturally after that. If you find this helps you while using other methods, let me know
"How much experience have you had with lucid dreams?" Intentionally, not a whole lot at this point. Unintentionally, I've been doing this off and on my whole life. I realize that my level of experience doesn't really qualify me to write too many tutorials, but this is just something that helped me out when other tutorials didn't, so I figured I'd share it in case someone else could find my method useful.

Thanks for reading; have fun flying!

(As a final note, sorry if this is duplicate information to you. I've looked around a lot and couldn't find anything quite like this already on DV, so hey, I tried.)

Wow I was actually just about to make a thread for some help on this. I normally just get like 30 feet in the air then come crashing down but I think this will really help me. Ill post back after my next lucid and tell you guys if it worked or not.
You spend 1/3 of your life asleep, so why waste it?

That is so weird. Its like you read my mind. I couldn't have written it better myself!
Everything in bold is so fucking true!

"Won't it wake me up if I use the logic part of my brain, which is supposed to be shut down during sleep?"
Umm... isn't being asleep while having the logic part of our brain active what makes us lucid?

For WILDing I know the logic part is active, but I'm pretty sure with DILD and similar methods the logic part remains at least partially shut down. Just pretty sure, though.

      That would explain a lot.
