I hate it... I want it to stop

      Hi everyone
I only come on here very occasionally...
but if you've ever read any of my posts
you will find the opposite of most on here

i have lucid dreams almost every night , and sleep paralysis is rarely not a part of my bedtime routine.. i really hate it and it scares me sooooo much ...

i just wanna find a way to stop it happening
if anyone has any ideas please let me know
its really ruining my nights lately
and disrupts my day after a very broken nights sleep
      im willing to try anything...

usually i wake myself up from it after prolonged blinking... it usually works but its taking longer and longer now

Well, when falling asleep, every minute or so move a part of your body.

I think you need to overcome the fear. Lucid dreaming should be fun. Sleep paralysis can be fun either, you just have to relax and enjoy it.

Question, did you know that you can change images/sensations that you get in SP? So technically, you can make it less scary/funny if needed.

Hopefully I will grow out of it ... Im 25 my mother is 42 she used to get it a lot too but not so much now......

Strangely i never knew this about her until a couple years ago when i decided to tell her about my terrible dreams... and she knew all about it FREAKY

      That is crazy

It's quite strange that runs in your family.

Maybe you could do unreality checks during the day(I don't really know what that would be though.)

Also apparently going on the computer late at night and eating close to bedtime decreases the chance of becoming lucid, hope that helps.

How do people even have a problem with getting out of sleep paralysis?

It's always been completely natural to me. I don't really know exactly how I do it, but I just do.

Maybe try really giving your body a strong jerk to get yourself out? Just quick and sudden. I think I usually simply try to move a lot more than I normally would, and I'm out of it. It's as though my sleep paralysis is only strong enough to prevent small and insignificant movements.

And I definitely know that it is really sleep paralysis I'm experiencing. It feels very very weird and uncomfortable, and I've experienced it many times, often immediately after waking up from a dream.

Just give your body a strong and sudden jerk, I would be surprised if it wouldn't work.
      To do list:
Have an LD(without waking up immediately) [x]; LD for more than 30 seconds[x]; LD for more than 2 minutes[x]
      WILD [ ]; DILD [7(ish)]; Fly [x];
      Practice a skill so that I will be better at it in real life [ ];
      Create world peace using a harmonica [ ];
Solve a real life problem [ ]; Turn the world into a nudist colony [ ]

I wish I had your problem.

It is like you have been given this 'lucid every night' gift and you want to be some normal retard.

Hope you get normal soon. Get married and have 20 kids and drive a mini van.

All the subtlety of a sledge hammer, but a valid point.

I think really you (op) just need to control this fear. The dreams aren't something new, they were in you before you fell asleep and they're there after. What is this fear and where does it come from? That's the real question. you can stop remembering dreams, but you won't stop having them, you need to conquer your demons, then you can use this gift you have for what it is. I hope that's some help.

I know what you mean about SP, I used to struggle sometimes for up to 10 minutes without being able to break it and it was horrible. Nothing would snap my body out of it, and I envy all of you that can just jerk and get out of it. But I have found that holding my breath gets me out of SP almost immediately, so maybe try that next time? Hope this helps, let me know how it goes!

Heres a list of fun things to do in lucids, which hopefully will make you like them instead of hating them.
      Here Goes:
      fly
      swim forever
      talk to somebody famous
go to your favorite books universe
      compose music
      listen to a live band
say what you want to who you want with no side affects.
      dance
      lead an army
sit near a river (very relaxing, should give you very deep sleep.)
      go to space
      be Indiana Jones
      jump and touch a jet
      invent things
      make up stories
      paint
have a scrimmage with a Friend

As you can see, there are a lot of ways to enjoy LD's, you just need to use some.

Sleep paralysis is a rare but natural delight. You should learn to pleasure its presence. It is a unique method to induce full-blown LD experiences. Do not fight it and let it grasp you with all its wonderful terror. See how far it takes you into dreamspace for a change.

I've experienced sleep paralysis before, and the first time was a very terrifying experience.

The thing about sleep paralysis, is you're on the cusp of a dream.

Instead of panicking and freaking out, try taking slow and deep breaths. Keep your eyes closed and try to visualize something that makes you happy.

One of the cool things about sleep paralysis is once you close your eyes, you can easily drift into a dream.

If you are unable to find ways to make it stop completely, you may have to learn to work through it in a positive way. This kind of reminds me of getting an anxiety attack (I get those a lot). It's hard to completely avoid them, but once you understand what they are and how to work through them and know that it CAN'T hurt you, things will get easier.

Deep breaths, visualization, and stay calm. Just repeat to yourself that there's nothing that can hurt you, your body is just acting perfectly normal.

I hope this helps and good luck!

WakingNomad told me to sit back and enjoy the ride. To appreciate the experience of sleep paralysis, scary lucid dreams, and all sorts of things I once loathed.

I think the problem here is that you think that because you're conscious you should wake yourself up or something. You're sleeping so don't wake yourself up. This is supposed to be happening. You get SPs every night. We all do. We just aren't conscious during them. We dream every night too. When you lucid dream, just keep on with the dream. Don't try to wake up. When you're in SP just keep sleeping. Don't try to get out of it. You're telling us that lucid dreaming is ruining your night's sleep. I think you are, trying to wake up from all these normal sleep experience. Since, like you say, you get them almost every night, you should easily get used to it and enjoy it. Have you thought of all the oportunities you have when you are lucid?

hate it cos sometimes It is so so real I actually think Ive gotten back out of bed and walking round the house until things aren't quite right.. If you get me

      Relax, go do something fun.

I Don't like the feeling... It feels wrong ...Physically

No, the feeling is extraordinary. I can't believe you're still not used to it after feeling it almost every night. Simply enjoy it. Don't try, just do it. Smile and pretend you like it.

Also sometimes I freak out in the lucid dream and lose control and cant seem to move or do exactly what i want anymore...

Technically as if you'd be watching TV...

Yes i know that I can change whats happening and occasionally I'm feeling brave and take control and then its like Woahhhhhh I Don't like this anymore

feeling brave? Are your dreams horror scenes? What do you mean by controlling? Maybe, just go to a restaurant and eat food you enjoy, its always great, especially if your the bored lucid dreamer kind of person.

It's sad that you don't enjoy sleeping... Maybe, we could all lucid dream really well thousands of years ago but then everyone was like you and tried to stop lucid dreaming and then that's why we can't do it so easily anymore O.o

I know there are a lot of people who would want your problem! Like everybody else has said, just try and find positives and enjoy yourself. Of course, through our eagerness, we have probably now alienated this person beyond all desire of lucid dreaming because now she is terrified of ending up like us.

Just remember that no matter what sleep paralysis cannot harm you. Im sooo jealous that you can have so many lucid dreams and dont take it for granted.
Keep on reminding yourself that you will be fine.

nothing is "happening to you", Lucid dreaming is perfecly normal for any living thing particularly humans. It's all in YOUR mind, that's probably what you don't understand is that you have complete control over everything in a dream, it's all a representation of yourself. if you can't accept dreaming and you look at it with fear you must have some problems.. all your doing is fearing your own mind. you need to Let go, fear is a hollow shell and easy to remove. You can't run in circles forever.. realize all your doing is freaking yourself out. it's all you.
