Well i have a special method that i use that works great and has never failed me.
The more you flex your left ankle, the higher you go. Moving your left leg controls direction and speed(the more you move your leg in a direction the faster you will go) and then you just turn by tilting and turning
(it will feel natural to turn like this)
Good luck!
If you need help with anything else DILD related, just ask me.
The higher you go, the faster you need to fly. Just increase your speed.
Also flying in a standing or sitting position should grant you more control than stretched out like superman.
I will try both methods tonight.
Perhaps I should explain a little better. In order to have movement, you have to be moving relative to something else. So if you fly really fast at low altitudes, everything is a blur, and you can't sustain your surroundings.
Flying slow at high altitudes, everything is so far away that you begin to lose that feeling of movement. Flying at the speed of light is impossible in dreams because everything around you blurs out of existence, you no longer have anything to move relative to, and you lose the feeling of movement.
As for the standing/sitting thing, it really has to do with you being used to moving around while standing, or traveling in a car while sitting. If you try to stretch out like super man, the most common associations with that position are with swimming, so people often default to swimming physics.
What usually works for me is saying out loud, "gravity doesn't exist in dreams!" and wammoo! But sometimes I have to repeat it to make it work.
Here's the flying tutorial: http://dreamviews.com/community/showthread.php?t=62542 That's where I got the gravity thing.
Good luck :)
