      Advice for Shapeshifting?

I read Dan Simmons Hyperion a while ago, and I've decided I want to turn into the shrike. If you were to attempt this, how would you go about transforming?

Holy crap, that's one creepy looking... thing. o_o
In my case if I want to shapeshift, I have to really press myself to do it, and not just expect it to happen. I have to will it.

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

I've always wanted to be on the other end of a nightmare. (As in, NOT on the receiving end)

Look for a mirror to confirm the shapeshift too. Close your eyes and imagine the form you want in detail. Keep checking a mirror until its perfect.

Loaf is right, but I have found that using some sort of device works well, too.

Ah, if I were to go for the first one, would put spikes on my body and wait for them to "blend" with it, once thats done, with one of my hands cut my other one in half, once thats doen, cut the last one, and then look at the progress.

For the seconed image, would summon a bunch of stuff (That looks like the skin of the thing) in the ground, then dive into it and will it to become a part of my body.

Fine I wouldn't do it like that, but don't think you will want to try my method <.<

Before you learn to run learn to walk. I would suggest finding a strong emotion then let it transform you within the dream. Try hate, love, envy, lust, joy or peace. which ever emotion consumes you let it move you become you and you will.

We are all animals. Remember this. Be this.

Or if you like this and want to try your hand then what emotion would Hyperion reflect? Be consumed by that

Shapeshifting into one form is no more difficult or easy than any other. I consider it part of Dream Control. Everyone has different methods, just like everyone has different methods for flying, or instant transportation. Find the one that works best for you.

I suggest meditating on it when you are awake. Close your eyes, and visualize the form in front of you. Then, unzip it, and step into it like a suit, and zip it back up. Let it form to your body. Look at yourself in a mirror. Walk, run, eat, growl, fly.

Sometimes I physically act out how I am going to move in dreams. It's funny watching people's reactions to the crazy man on the street practicing dream combat.

The "fake it till you make it" ideal is perfect for this, and it generally works with most other dream control issues as well. Just act as though you have already shifted. "Make believe" like you did when you were a kid (at least I did anyway). Have you ever seen Hook? The banquet scene? Just like that.

This is the real point of halloween costumes and masks and such.

I have always painted a detailed picture of what I want to shapeshift into and concentrate on each line with intention. I hang the painting up on the wall opposite my bed so I see it as I lay down at night. I get to know it by heart and visualize myself as that oftenly. In the dream I just feel myself shapeshift by activating my intention to do so with will power and invoking the image that I memorized.

Imagine you're smilar to a werewolf, so act like you can't control the change, your new body bursts through the old one. You shoud try it in front of other dream characters, I wonder what their reaction would be?

I have only successfully shapeshifted once. It was in my last lucid. I got down on the floor and started moving like a snake. I gradually turned into a snake. Maybe that technique can help?

you've got to get into the groove of the creature you're trying to be,

so feel what you imagine it feels like to be it and just let your body move with that feeling and it'll transform the more you get into it.

kinda like really getting into a dance and letting the music take you...

its a little slower like that but its a more comfortable transition to me.

I just knuckle-walked like an ape in my dream to transform in to a monster. I didn't transform into an ape but really I only knuckle-walked because I had an urge to do so for some reason. I than ran down some people and killed them. Much fun. I also turned into a point of light to fly, so my advice is to move like what you want to be, or rather as if you are what you want to be and not just some guy imitating it. Really it is quite easy and simple, not at all slow and quite instant. Flying is much more difficult, even telekinesis is harder. It is in fact very, very easy to change shape once you have a good idea how to do it right.
