Greater control in non-lucid dreams?

Last night I experienced something unique. I was having a normal dream, just like any other with all sorts of crazy things happening around me, till at one point I had a vague idea that it all might be a dream. But I didn't go for any reality checks, I probably forgot about that as soon as it came to my mind.

But what happened next was amazing. I started running through some fields when all of these motorcycles and buggies started coming straight at me, and I started leaping over them, making some kick-ass stunts in midair. The weird thing was, I could literally feel myself imagining how all of this was happening.

In an earlier dream, I did something else I'd never done before. I actually materialized a chocolate bar in my hand, but I hadn't even the slightest idea that I might be dreaming.

What could this all mean?

In the first intance, I'd say that perhaps for beginners, too much lucidity means too much awareness, which in turn means caution and fear. Fear will lessen one's chances of doing incredible things in their dream like jumping off a high building. But if you're awareness is really low, your fear is virtually non-present, or at least diminished to an insignificant level. Yet the idea of dreaming somehow spawns a chain of subconscious associations and you end up doing the unthinkable without giving it a second thought.

In the second intance, well, maybe it's simpler. You don't need to have any idea that you're dreaming; in your waking life you're pretty much sure that in your dreams you can do anything, and thus it works.

Seems to me that the idea of lucid dreaming is getting embedded into your subconscious, and thus you are dreaming about having lucid dreams. This is slightly annoying territory, but you can use it for your advantage if you can increase your awareness just that little bit more. There's many varying degrees of lucidity. The reason this is happening is because you are aware that dream control things are possible, and therefore you dream about them, giving your dreams just that bit more unpredictability.

Secondly, many bizarre things happen in dreams like this. Only now that you understand about dream control are you realising the actual mechanisms behind what is happening in your non-lucid dreams. The principles are the same lucid or not. In one case you're subconscious is manipulating the dream, in the case of a real lucid you manipulate your subconscious. When you are awake, this greater depth of understanding gives you the impression of having been "lucid but not lucid". Confusing I know, but its something that you'll become used to.

For me, its quite weird when you really analyse your mind in dreams like these. You can have multiple layers of consciousness running at the same time. Sometimes you are only lucid of a particular part of the dream, but not of the whole dream scenario itself. You might find yourself making a few conscious decisions in your dreams, but never realising that these decisions are in fact absurd. Likewise you might think, ah this is a dream, and then fly off. Only to lose lucidity but continue the dream scenario by flying around non-lucid. That is part of the reason reality checks are very useful. You should make it a habit to do reality checks if you think you are lucid, even if you are in a dream where you dream about being lucid, these may convert it into a real lucid dream. You need some kind of waking up checks to ensure that you are fully lucid. Not only to check that it is a dream, but to "activate" all of your dream senses fully.

To further clarify about not needing to be fully aware...

You will eventually reach a point where subconscious desires might get in the way. For the moment your subconscious desires are to experience lucid dream type things in your dreams. Therefore you dream about them. This is not real dream control, and when your subconscious turns to other interests and desires you might find that actually, they are not the same things that you actually want to do. So I feel it is important to retain full consciousness in dreams. Other reasons might present themselves as you become more proficient as well.

So this basically isn't dream control per se, but rather the independant manifestation of a single subconscious idea. I can see the difference. Full awareness should be retained at all times, IMO, within and outside your dreams. I've realized countless times that lack of consciousness, even in a waking state, isn't that much different than a non-lucid dream.

I dont agree completely with you there. Thats possible, but u dont need to be lucid and loose it to do such stuff. I do fly, levitate, telekinesis and etc. without going lucid at all. Maybe u're right that there's different levels of lucidity, and for me the explaination is that i might think it's something like a game or i just somehow know i can do it. Or i "know" its real life(which is not), but i discover that i can fly and i assume that its possible not only in dreams but IRL too. U can have control in non-lucid dream, coz in my expirience, it doesnt happen by itself, i put effort to it. correct me if im wrong but i think flying is somehow control. and 90% of the time i fly is in non-lucids.
