      Balance Effected

Sometimes when I go into a lucid dream I find myself extremely off balance. To the degree where I cannot stand up like gravity is pulling me down to one side and I end up not being able to walk around properly.

I suspect the reason is my senses are conflicting where I am still in bed and that sensation may be influencing the reason why I can't stand upright. Because I'm still laying down on my bed. But I suspect there may be more to it than this.

Does anyone else have this problem of balance? Why does it happen. What could the cause be and what are some possible solutions.

I experience something similar to this toward the end of a lucid dream just before im about to make the conscious transition from dream state to wake state. What it is, is the chemical in your brain that is emitted to inhibit motor functions is being reduced but is not completely extinguished yet, what this means as that in your dream you will try to move your arm and you will "slightly" move your actual arm. The feeling you get in your dream is a "pulling" or "weight" type of feeling being pressed upon you. That feeling is actually your real body you are feeling but since your not awake yet you perceive it in your dream state as paralysis. I suppose it may be possible for it to effect one side of your body you should study the neuro-checmical that inhibits motor function while you are asleep to learn more.

I hate when I experience this effect because I experience full body paralysis when I transition from lucid to awake for a minute or longer sometimes, unable to move my body (with the exception of my eyeballs and eyelids.).

Interesting. I may look up more about this but see if I get anymore feedback from others first. It's not uncommon for me to get sleep Paralysis occasionally. I've never had it for longer than a minute like you though. I think you may be right it's something to do with the inbetween state where you're not awake yet but almost. Often times I roll out of my bed to start a lucid dream. Except when I find myself unbalanced afterwards I may have rolled out of my body too soon and hence the unbalanced effect because I'm not totally in sleep mode yet.

You could be laying on your side as the neuro chemical fades, you would perceive the feeling of the bed pressing against you in your dream in some way, mostly likely a pressing or pulling feeling where it would be difficult to move.

I had an experience this morning that might be of some help. I was having the same problem with balance, and not for the first time, either.

Then my mind went through some dream logic that I can't really explain. I figured that my balance was off because I was aware of both my waking and my dream body at the same time. And for some reason I thought that since I was lying on my stomach in the waking world, and standing in the dreaming world, focusing on a point between and in front of my feet would compensate for it.

It worked for me, for the most part. I was a lot less wobbly, but I felt like I was leaning forward a a little too much. Hey, at least I didn't feel like I was staggering like a drunk, right?

I'll probably try focusing on a point nearer to my feet next time, or my dantian.
