School,symbols,water and other misc weirdness

In this dream i can understand a few meanings if i break it down into little sections but overall I'm lost in the weirdness of it all and how it seems so random. Ive had plenty of strange dreams much worse then this and i can always manage to take meaning from it and not think about it but this one has me stumped. thanks for any help.

I was walking down a crowded city street looking for a school i was supposed to look at.
when i got to the corner i found this art school full of people younger then me

(teenagers) and i felt intimidated but i went in anyway and got a tour by the principal.
this woman took me all over and each room was very strange. one had a bunch of red felted

pool tables with little kids (mostly black) sleeping on top 3 and 4 on each one bundled up

with blankets. and a black guy sleeping in the corner (i don't know how i figured this but

he was the one in charge for that room) the next room had beige carpet and little symbols

painted in red black and white on the floor and wall and i remember thinking about

painting the carpet must have been a rough task. the symbols were small ovals with 1 or 2

zig zags in the middle and circles with 3 dots in the center. another room was just a

regular office with a desk and papers but we stopped in there before leaving. i cant remember the other rooms at the moment. except one had lots of huge plants in it and i remember liking it.

on the way down the back stairs she opened a door and there was a canal outside, at this point it was dark outside. I stood in the door way logging out of my email on some screen

that was on the wall.

i looked down the canal and an my ex was driving up in his old boat that he no longer

owns. at this point i was wondering what the hell was he doing there and why do i have to

go on water. i stepped down onto a cement ledge then got scared bc i had to step onto

these floating plastic squares. they were full off holes in a checker board pattern
but i went any way and i sunk a little bit but tried to run across them faster
as i seen a friend up a head zipping over them. I could see the water around my

shoes and it was clear but dark like brownish tannin color. i guess typical of a pond.

one whole section of these floating squares lifted up in the air and i went swinging back and forth over the water..

almost to the boat then almost to my friend on a wood dock. then i woke up. i felt a little nervous swinging over the water bc i didn't want to fall all the way in the water and swim but i wasn't scared.


this other friend is just a guy i became friends with months ago and we chit chat and laugh.. no huge interest there so I'm not sure why he would be in my dream on the other side of the water. but then again i dint understand the rest of the dream either thats why I'm here :)
