      An Elevator Ride

This dream confused me for a bit. It seemed as if I were transported to another plane that actually does exist. Let me explain.

A lady is holding a jester mask towards me. The jester mask is telling a story of some sort and says it wants to see who I am. I feel this sucking motion and the jester mask has its mouth wide open. I’m resisting because it’s mouth is dark. The jester mask gets upset and tells me to let it in. I refuse. The jester masks then has crazy eyes and gets angry and looks like it’s about to bite me. I then remember it’s a dream and start flailing my arms back and forth trying to end the dream. The ground then disappears, it's dark, and I'm falling.

I look and I’m on an elevator. It has a large floor and it’s metallic. It’s a large open one where you can see the world outside like the elevators astronauts use to board the rocket. There’s a man in a business suit and a woman in a secretary skirt next to me. The elevator is going up. Outside, the light is golden and white, like when the sun first comes up in the morning and it’s basking this span of concrete like we’re in a naval base of some sort. The elevator is going up, but it’s going nowhere in particular. The people inside with me just stand there looking at this morning light touching everything. The man then asks me what the purpose of a dream is. I say I don’t really know. He then tells me, “It’s quite simple, really. The purpose of a dream. It’s meant to help you reach a truth about something. I mean, you yourself have to arrive at that, but a dream can help it quite a lot. And those “somethings” all vary. “ And I’m just looking at him.

The lady then speaks, “Here, we’ll help you. Give me the first word that comes to your mind.” And for some reason I say “Reverse.” They both ask “Reverse?” at the same time. The lady asks, “And how would a dream about “reverse” be like?” I then say, “Um…life in reverse? Progress in reverse?” The lady then says, “How about purpose?” Man says “Yes, that’s manageable. People can find their purpose in dreams.” And after that the two of them start listing off a variety of topics that they could help me to dream about, and thus, help to see the “truth in them”. There’s war, mankind's destiny, happiness, peace, fear, insecurity, the past, what I want for my life, solitude, why things happen to people who don’t really deserve them, etc. And I’m just staring at them as they’re listing them off.

And when they both turn and see that I’m at a loss, the man says, “Sorry. I’ve forgotten. We’re just here to help you start your realization.” He smiles at me. The elevator is still going up. It’s quiet for a while. The lady then asks me, “A dream can do a lot. What is it that you want to understand? Something that has always confused you and never could seem to grasp? What do you want to see the truth in?” They’re both looking at me and without thinking about it I say “Love.” The elevator floor disappears. It complete darkness. I can feel the gravity of falling pulling me down somewhere and I don’t know where. After that I wake up.

I feel like this is self-explanatory, but the whole scenario of the elevator confuses me. Why an elevator? Why do these people seem like they exist? Like they're actually out there on another plane helping me with my dreams to "see the truth" in things. Please interpret if you can.

If it helps. I'm a teenage girl. I freqently read philosophy and have been confused about many things and angry for a good majority of my life. I hope one day to reach an "enlightment" of some sort and attain an inner peace. If you're wondering about the "love" answer, I'm thinking it has to do with my boyfriend. When we first got together, I told him that he and I had a connection, but I couldn't quite put a name on it. He told me that he didn't know what it was either, but that we should find out together. Several months later, he told me that he loved me. I haven't told him that yet. Why? I don't know what love is. That might be irrelevant. Who knows, if it helps, then, well.....awesome.

Hi, I accidentally double posted this. Could someone please delete this second thread? I'm not sure how to do it myself.

I did not read the whole post, however, I can answer the question about love. If one knows what one is, the definition, then one can then know what love is.

Love is all the things that two people do together to maintain and promote their lives.
