Strange old dream that i cant forget.

A couple of years ago i was going through a bad time. i had been on the recieving end of two assaults (getting beat up in the street - all in the past, and i have grown from the bad experience) and stuck in a job i hated.

I started playing rugby after the first assault, to try and regain some confidence, but that didnt work it only made me feel worse about myself ( i feel great now) I also dislocated my shoulder playing rugby.

At the time i was 19 and it was before i decided to stop playing rugby, this is the time of the second assault, that made me realize my friends were not as good friends as i thought they were, technicly i got beat up defending them, and i got abandoned - after this i fell into a depression

it was shortly after this second assault, that i had the dream.

i was halfway down the side of a forested hill and there was an entrance to a cave. the cave was dark as night and at the entrance there was a flaming torch.

i heard the faint noise of a girl crying mournfully. i was both afraid and at the same time compelled to see who was crying.

i ventured into the cave and as i got deeper the crying got louder but turned off down a side tunnel. also. the cave wasnt as dark as it was at the start, it was just slightly darker than twilight. so i dropped the torch and folowed the crying down the side tunnel.
by this time my fear had turned to apprehension and the crying was drawing me closer.

i felt great compasion for whoever was crying, and her voice, even though crying was beautiful.
the side tunnel brang me into a large hall without a floor except the ledge i was standing on. almost like a bottomless pit.
there was a piece of floating floor in the shape of a circle about 10 meters below my level and too far for it to be in jumping distance.

this is where the crying girl was.
i saw her sitting with her back to me, legs dangling looking down into the abyss below, still crying.
i felt a huge rush of compassion attraction and love for this crying girl and i wanted to call her and help her. but my voice wouldnt work.

this is when i heard the name ISIS whispered to me and i woke up.

this is one of the dreams i remember most vividly and it has stayed with me for 2 years, but i cant begin to fathom what it could mean, if it means anything.

I'm going to help you with the interpretation of your dream. Since you have remembered it for such a long time, I feel it has importance for you (dreams that are hard to forget often carry important messages). I think this dream came at this time of your life because it was trying to guide you and transition you into a different pathway.

First of all, you said you were halfway down a forested hill when you found the entrance to a cave. Going down could represent going down into the subconscious mind, forests are transitional places, places of instinct (again the subconscious), and finally, you were halfway down when you found the cave. Being halfway could suggest that you were bridging between the conscious and subconscious mind to find the cave. Caves are an interesting symbol and tie in with the bridging of the conscious and subconscious. Dreaming about a cave represents the feminine side of the consciousness - caves are wombs, representing concealment and protection. In your dream, you walk into the darkness of the cave, with only a flaming light at the entrance. That means you had literally found the gateway to your unconscious mind, and going into the cave represents the beginning of an exploration into self discovery.

The next symbol is telling us what was within your subconscious mind at the time of the dream. The sound of a girl crying. To hear someone crying in a dream can show that you have some inner sadness that is hard to release - especially if you do not cry in everyday situations, hearing someone else cry - especially a girl - as in this case, is easier to deal with since girls cry and express their emotions in general better than men. This explains why you were both afraid and compelled - afraid to confront the sadness but at the same time, you know you have to.

Next you explain how you tried to find the source of the crying. This is you trying to find the source of the inner sadness. Since you had to search for it a while, it shows that the sadness is deeply buried in your subconscious mind (hence also why it was hidden in a cave), however, as you search onwards, it gets louder and brighter, showing that you're nearer to the source of the sadness. If you had buried this within you for a while, it's normal you'd feel apprehension as you don't know what to expect when you finally confront the source.

When you finally find the source, you say you felt great compassion and beauty within the crying. I think this is the attitude you should have towards yourself in order to heal from the pain of the past.

A hall is a place where we share things with people - in this case, it would relate to you opening up to your emotions, perhaps to another human being. The fact that it was a bottomless pit/abyss suggests that this is a big obstacle for you. Finally, the girl was on a circle floating floor that was unreachable to you at the time. That could mean that at the time, being able to open up to how you were feeling was out of the question and impossible. Circles represent completeness, and floors are our stability - also, the floor was below you - which can represent a part of your unconsciousness that was not accessible at the time. This could be something that you'll only access once you reach a level of emotional completeness and stability.

The fact that you felt a rush of love for this girl but couldn't help her denotes that it just wasn't time and you weren't ready to be able to open up. I have a feeling that the girl represents the feminine qualities of being emotional/opening up/being compassionate/forgiving but I also think she could represent a person that you'll meet once you're able incorporate these feelings into your conscious mind. I've had dreams about people that I've met in dreams and they too gave me symbols from my subconscious to bring into my conscious mind and then, I've gone on to meet those people (I met my partner in a dream before I even knew him). I feel this could be a similar situation for you, if not a partner, then definitely a close friend.

Finally, the name ISIS being whispered. ISIS is a goddess, again which sums up the overall feeling of the dream - the feminine sides of you, your subconscious, your emotions. I too have had a goddess's name whispered to me in a dream ( a different goddess though). This denotes that the qualities of this particular goddess is important to you right now (or maybe throughout your life). A quick look of wikipedia tells me that Isis was worshipped as the ideal wife/mother and was the friend of the downtrodden - basically everything that this dream was trying to tell you.
