A dream about my childhood friend/love interest

It's nice to meet everyone, I'm Emma and recently I've been interested in interpreting and trying to understand my weird, effed-up dreams. Last night I had one that was long and I don't remember a lot of it or know how to put a lot of it into words, but I tried to on my Tumblr

"So they’re both kinda hazy but I get the general picture and it was just… weird.

In my first dream, my childhood friend is running down a street in the Alaska Junction and I stop him and ask him what’s wrong. He replies that he’s on the run or something and without asking why, I join him and for the rest of the dream I’m protecting him without asking what he’s done because apparently I’m in love with him. It felt very real at the time. Throughout the dream I’m protecting him from stuff like cops and people out to get him and taking care of him. Then I woke up.

And then I fell asleep again, and I can’t remember if he’s in this dream too because I can only put together bits and pieces of it, but I think I’m on a mission of some sort (I’m never really clear on what I’M doing in my dreams) and I think it involved killing and death. It’s like I needed to get to a small town somewhere, get something and come back to the Alaska Junction and now that I think about it, this might actually have been the same dream extended as I had the first time I woke up. My attractive male coworker goes on this small town journey along with me, and somehow on the train ride back we get to talking about the military. Also, I feel like it was Halloween because everyone was dressed strangely and I also feel like there was murder and serial killing involved… there was a basement that I’ve seen near Easy Street Records and I feel like my childhood friend was in there and either in trouble or the one causing trouble. I can’t remember after that.

This is why I lie when people ask me if I remember my dreams. My dreams are so fucked up that I always tell people I can’t remember."

so that's the sort of context to the dream. But a specific bit is interesting to me.

I have a childhood friend who I was pretty much in love with from 9 or 10 years old up to about 14 or so years old. Me and him don't really talk much anymore.

In this dream, he's running from someone and I stop him and ask him why he's running. He just kinda implies that he's running and doesn't have tie or whatever so I follow him and for the rest of the dream I'm trying to protect him without ever asking what he's done. Apparently in the dream I'm madly in love with him. So.

I was curious about any meaning that could possibly have besides the obvious.
