"Killer" squid stopping me from entering my room

Hello!

This is my first time trying to find help in regards to my dreams since I feel like I should learn something from it.

The dream, at least from what I recall, starts with feeling extremely scared.
I don't quite see the dream from first person but I don't see it from another viewpoint either since I don't see myself. I just kind of see the dream.

Now on to the guts of this dream.
It starts out with me seeing a squid in what I feel like is "my room".
The squid isn't completely normal, it's head is more "arrow shaped" like it's made for piercing something/someone and it looks black-redish.

I feel like I absolutely need to get in that room, what I perceive as "my room".
Having said that, from what I remember, it doesn't seem like I'm in my own apartment, where my room is, I seem to be in a different house.
I see the creature crawling around, hanging from the light in the ceiling and as soon as I try to enter, it turns agressive towards me.

While I feel that I need to get in the room, I also feel that if I leave, the creature will hunt me down, so I'm stuck and NEED to get in that room.
In the last dream, which happened today, I went to that room armed with 2 knives, one in each hand and managed to cut a few limbs off the creature, but I can't remember anything past that point.
I don't know if I killed the squid or it killed me.

I don't feel like it's just another nightmare, it just feels different, I can't really explain how.

I thought I should add a little about myself as well.
An odd thing is that I have an online friend, who I've met in real life a few times as well, with an online name of "PristineSquid".
But somehow I think it's not related to the dream.

I'm a pretty calm person, recently I've started going bicycling to lose some excess weight.
I spend most of my days on the internet since there's not much to do around here.
I've got expelled twice from different schools in the last three years since I'm struggling with sleep apnea and can't get up in the morning.
I've applied and am trying to get back in the last school i got expelled from and am considering going to a different school about 200km from my home and staying in a dorm near the school.

I might be paranoid but I'm really trying to figure this dream out since I feel like it's supposed to tell me something.

Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated!

How often do you dream this? I'm assuming only the once as I don't think you mentioned having it multiple times. To analyse what this dream might mean for you, it's important to separate the viewpoint you observed it from, you've said that this room isn't yours, and the apartment doesn't feel associated with you either, but in the dream they're both yours. You've also said that the dream isn't first person but you don't see yourself, so you might want to consider that the dream is in the eyes of a different observer, possibly.

You're a pretty calm person, so this rules out the possibility that this dream was caused by an unprovoked aggressive/stressed attitude. So I'm inclined to believe that your room could symbolise your education. In your room you feel secure, whereas in real life it's common to feel secure having an education. Your difficulty in getting out of bed in the mornings due to sleep apnea and thus getting expelled from your schools will seem like a scary squid that keeps rejecting you from accessing where you feel secure; your room and education. The reason you think this squid will hunt you down and destroy if you move away could be because people are conditioned to believe that education is their only chance of making it in life, thus the subconscious fear of moving away from it, remember that your room could symbolise your education and the feeling of helplessness would stop you either moving away or going in. Also, if anything, PristineSquid is where your subconscious would have taken the idea of this 'scary thing' being a squid, but I'm inclined to believe it's just coincidence unless you focussed on the name before having this dream.

Last thing, try not worry about yourself dying in the dream, especially if it's not within your dream recall (your dream memory) and/or it didn't happen. Like an online video game, you'll just respawn in a different location, and if the very same dream happens when you next go to sleep, try and ask questions because the squid won't be the only thing with the ability to answer your questions, in the dream.

Oh, i've completely forgotten to mention the amount.
I typed it out once but the text got lost, so I had to type it out again.

Now to clarify, I've had this dream 3 times now, only the final time I remember facing it with the knives mentioned, the other 2 times I only remember seeing it there and kind of struggling with it or maybe with the idea that it's in there, I don't remember actually going so to speak hand-to-hand with it.

I'm not really afraid of dying to the creature, I'm rather curious what happens at that point since it could tell me more about the dream.

I have tried to recall the exact "viewport" I was seeing this from.
But I think the reason why I can't recall this is because I don't really "see" dreams, I can't really "visualize" anything no matter how hard I try, neither while meditating or seeing a dream.
I kind of "feel" the events or conceptualize it.
To me, it's impossible to describe how this happens to me, it's weird really.
All that aside, I'm fairly sure if I would literally "see" the dreams, it would be in first person since i feel all that dread and helplessness first hand, it doesn't feel like i'm observing someone else.

You told that I should "ask questions", if by that you mean asking them in the dream, that will probably be a challenge, since I've never managed to have a lucid dream.

Also thank you for that amazing response, you've pointed me in a direction that seems very plausible, hopefully I'll see the dream again can catch some more details.

After a response like that, I really have to give what I have to offer in this place as well.

When we go into different states of being such as our dream-self, we have an added sense which allows us to spiritually feel aspects of the dream. This is why you can recognise and identify people in dreams even if they look or sound completely different to their real-life counterpart, and words can't explain how this sense works so we can just rest easy knowing we have it.

If you don't remember ever having a lucid dream, maybe an alternative would be to continuously journal these dreams down in a dream journal and try and be as detailed as you can, and from there try and analyse and map things out, treat it like it's a case that happened in real life and you're the detective. Eventually once enough of these dreams have been recorded, you will see a pattern in what is happening and you will figure something out, like the squid is warning you to stay away from something; anything. Dreams have a strange way of representing themselves, the reason dreams can sometimes tell the future or the present that you don't know about is because the psychic part of our mind tries to subconsciously tell us something is wrong, yet when it's processed the same way a dream is, that's when you get metaphorical garbage, but it isn't definite that this is happening to you. But creatively mapping out what is happening and thinking of as much analogies as you can, you can start to connect ideas and experiment with ways you can end this saga of dreams.

What does this squid make you feel like emotionally? When you walk near your room to try and get in, what do you feel like when it stops you? Scared? Cold? If so, is there anything in your day to day life that makes you feel exactly the same?

Then from there maybe look at some of the other parts - in particular bedroom, since you said it was a room that felt like yours but not a familiar one. I guess the squid makes me feel panic since I'm kind of stuck dealing with it, and I'm also kind of scared of facing it.
I can't remember a time when I felt like that in real life.

But I had another interesting train of thought after reading your posts.

Considering, i'm mostly spending my time on the computer, gaming, I often get myself dragged into longer gaming sessions past midnight, during weekends and sometimes on the weekdays as well.
I'm definitely having fun at the time but afterwards I feel like I really should have gone to sleep at a proper time, hence my sleep times get quite irregular.
And the friend that probably pulls me into that spiral the most is probably the mentioned "PristineSquid".

I'm trying to indeed push my sleep back to a normal time, but I'm constantly failing to do that since I let my friends talk myself into having some more fun.
I'm also trying to push my life back on tracks, finishing my education and overall growing up a bit more, since i'm 19 and It's about time to start living on my own and taking care of myself all on my own.
So I guess I'm at the point of major changes in my life or at least near the point.

Well, here's another theory. To tie this in with what Darkmatters showed about seeing a Squid in your dream would be that it represents PristineSquid and how this person selfishly talks you into online gaming when you want to be fixing your sleeping pattern. The dream could be telling you that you don't know what to do, you'll feel like he (or she) is going to be somewhat disappointed if you leave, hence in the dream you're scared of the Squid hunting you down. You could face it, but really you just need to get into your room; remember sometimes the different servers in online games are called rooms, so it could be that and that as a player, PristineSquid is the one not really letting you know what to do as he's putting you a confusion between "Come back" and "Go to bed".

If you want to go down the lucid dreaming path, you could try and kill two birds with one stone and see if you could have one whilst fixing your sleeping pattern. When you're getting a minimum of six hours sleep, or whatever you call normal hours, try waking up after 4-5 hours sleep and command yourself to know when you're dreaming, there is a chance it won't work but it's something you could try along with correcting your sleep. :)

Well, I'm very interested in lucid dreaming, having OBE-s and all that kind of stuff, I've tried having a wake induced OBE loads of times, so far with no success.

But the thing with waking up, that's the problem for me, I hear no alarm clocks and often respond to other people when they try to wake me up, without remembering having said anything afterwards.
So far no doctor or anyone else has been able to pinpoint exactly what's wrong with my sleep, I'm probably going to have another sleep study in a few months as well.
I'm currently sleeping with an CPAP machine as well, since the apnea at first was obstructive, but lately it seems to be more related to my brain (my brain is pretty much forgetting to breathe while I sleep).

Regarding the dream though, from how much I know pristine, I'm fairly sure that I wouldn't think he'd be disappointed if I don't go on a gaming session with him, on the other hand, that's only my conscious thought, can't really know what my subconscious thinks about the situation.

So far I've got great clues from you guy as to what could the dream be trying to tell me.

Also I've noticed some sentences I've written really seem to be a bit confusing, even to me, I'm sure you can forgive me, since I'm not a native English speaker :D

I'm interested in OBE as-well, last year I was frequent in other Internet communities to do with astral projection and I have had experience with it, I have a habit of trying to astral project in the morning but then falling asleep, so my sleeping pattern is quite poor as-well; I'll go to bed when normal people should be waking up in the morning.

There's a technique somebody from this community taught me about alarm clocks a long time ago, the technique is to wake ourselves up using our internal clock. Imagine it like a stopwatch that starts ticking downwards from the minute you begin to sleep, your brain knows when to wake you up. You can use this to your advantage when nothing else works, have you ever set an alarm and woke up about five minutes before it starts beeping really loudly, but then got up and turned it off before going back to bed and falling back to sleep? Well that's because your subconscious recorded the information because of the fear of being interrupted during sound sleep so it prepared you to wake up in-time to turn it off. The technique involves doing this without any alarm clock, you set this internal stopwatch yourself using affirmations like "It's 10:00pm now so I'm going to make sure I'm awake for 5:00am". I was quite surprised when I figured out that it worked. I'm not entirely sure in detail how the CPAP machine effects your sleeping, the Wikipedia page for it is too long and I can't find any information related to sleep cycles. If it deepens your sleep for whatever reason, the technique might require some time before it works perfectly.

Also don't worry about your English. I'm English myself and I still find myself typing improper sometimes, but mainly when I proof read them. :)

I'm aware that we have an internal clock, but I haven't really tried programming it like that.
I definitely remember a few times I've waken up before the alarm.
In summertime I usually sleep at daytime as well, staying up way too long (all night).

I just checked up the wiki for cpap as well, it's indeed rather long.
CPAP stands for continuous positive airway pressure, it's meant for curing obstructive sleep apnea.
Obstructive pretty in that case just pretty much means that during the short pause, after you have exhaled, there is no air moving in your throat, which allows it to collapse, when your muscles are relaxed and then it makes it impossible to breathe in until your organism realizes that it's not getting any air and starts taking action to be able to breathe again.
The machine keeps constant pressure in your airways, not allowing it to collapse.

Jokingly said, CPAP is a vacuum cleaner, that's working backwards.
The version I have, the APAP uses sonar to scan for an obstruction, to see if it's from the throat or if it's central and then raises the airway pressure if need be.

On the OBE part, I think of myself as having good mental discipline, so I'm able to easily keep my mind free of any thoughts and just focus on the task at hand, which is pretty much just tricking my body, that my mind is asleep.
At least that's what the wake induced OBE consists of.
I usually have some weird sensations happening and I seem to get a little bit further each time, since the sensations are familiar to me by then.
If I feel something that I've never felt before I usually get too excited and ruin the attempt.
I'm extremely interested in the subject, so that's why I probably haven't reached an OBE yet but i'm not planning on giving up.
I believe the experience will be something that you can't find in your everyday world, so that's what keeps me going.

Other than that, I'm an extremely heavy sleeper and I do mean EXTREMELY.
Usually people wake up when they have an apnea happen but not me.
I sleep through them like a baby, actualy I sleep through pretty much everything like a baby.
