      Animal dreams

Recently I've been having a series of pretty intense dreams and I'm hoping somebody could shed some light on them for me. I've often googled dreams and stuff, but I find most interpretations about animals just to mention an obvious trait in the animal and relate it to the persons life, for example a fox - being sly and perhaps someone being sneaky in your life. The most recent two dreams involved animals, the first time I was with a friend, and a huge bird was circling above, I don't remember being in any direct danger, but for whatever reason somebody came out of nowhere and shot the giant bird down, it looked like an eagle but much larger. The second dream was last night, and it seemed as though this fox kept trying to attack me, and I'd fend it off. Eventually it got a hold of my forearm, and I'm struggling with it, when all of a sudden I take a knife and stick it straight through the foxes head (which feels surprisingly easy). After this I'm bleeding profusely and there are different odd characters from my life in places, and none of them will help me, I remember being concerned about the bleeding and infection. This is as much as i can remember, hopefully someone can provide a better interpretation that sites listed on Google. Any thoughts are appreciated

Cool! I was about to make a thread about animals myself.

Apparently I get animals in my dreams, too. For the most part, my Dream Animals have behaved as "Dream Characters". (For me) they actually have the same intelligence as a DC does, and they respond as a DC does. In fact, I've almost had an /easier/ time with the animals because I /don't expect/ a cat to be highly intelligent in real life; when I see a cat having an unusually high intelligence, that's a pretty good sign that I'm dreaming.
However, just by seeing another dull human -- I could very easily sleep through that. I don't know how your mind works, though.

Keep track of your dreams. Do you always feel in danger of animals in your dreams? Is there a subtle difference between the types of animals you encounter? Do you have a "companion" animal? Why do you feel the need to fight these animals? Is there something in your past which may lead you to battle these animals? Is something bothering you now? What do you feel as you battle these animals? Do you feel scared, victorious, sad, ashamed, surprised...

Hmm thats very interesting, I'm pretty sure the animals in my dreams have no real character or personas, unless maybe they represent other people and I don't realise it. I should probably divulge some more about myself. In life at the moment I feel very lost, the past year and a half has brought a massive change in circumstance to me, and has caused me to become very paranoid and bitter. I do not trust anybody, and people find me very difficult to approach. In social situations I'm very reserved unless I'm drinking, in which case I'm the opposite, and I'll be more than willing to tear you a new one. I'm very aware of old friends/acquaintances in my life that I have lost all feeling towards, and that I no longer trust.. I'm so paranoid to a point where I pretty much assume every conversation people have is in some way regarding me, and I'm very aware of this paranoia, but its just who I am now. Also financially I am on my arse and very stressed, paranoia often leads me to feel like a charity case, even amongst the couple of close friends I still have. I hope this proves a better insight :p

I think you may have solved your own question! It's a matter of trust and paranoia? I would be rather "jumpy" if a stray creature wandered about in the forest, too, and I had all kinds of bitter paranoia/fear/trust issues built up.

I just had a very similar dream to yours and have also been googling around a bit for a good interpretation. The dream did not involve a fox or an eagle however. I was with surrounded by strangers who were working with cactuses which is very out of the ordinary seeing as I live in the pacific north west and i saw some of them eating the cactus so i asked them if they were eating peyote cactus and the DCs said they were. Then as i began to walk away i got a feeling that there was something in my mouth and i pulled out a soggy napkin and every time I pulled one out another seemed to take its place and i began frantically running toward home on my way there I stopped because I saw a lion approaching my in the darkness and as I stopped it began to charge at me and I froze being fully unarmed when it got within a few yards a warrior with a spear from out of nowhere jumped out and speared it to its death i wanted to thank him but my mouth was still jam pack full of napkin so i continued running home and when i got there i went straight to the mirror and continued pulling the napkins out but it was useless there seemed to be an infinite amount of them emanating from holes where my wisdom teeth once were i stayed there until i reluctantly woke up. I have looked up many lion attack interpretations but found nothing where someone saves you from a lion attack. I have also read a lot about the infinite napkin in mouth and have already had a few dreams prior that were the same thing but with endless wads of chewing gum. both the napkin and gum incidences are apparently meaning that there is something i'm wanting to say or express that i'm not saying or expressing in my real life. i'm curious what your thoughts might be.

As far as I know, animals in dreams do not constitute a class of dreams that can be called "animal dreams." The appearance of an animal is specific to the individual, his/her feelings and the meaning of a particular dream. They are neither typically characters, personas, traits, none or all of these, and they are heavily "loaded" by culture with meaning, which makes them difficult for an outside dream interpreter to read. [This is why dream dictionaries are next to useless for animals.] Even those animals that are possibly archetypal like snakes always give me problems. Birds are the easiest, but even these can vary, depending on what they "do" in a dream.

Having made that disclaimer, I still think I can provide some insight into these dreams. The dreamer wrote, "The most recent two dreams involved animals, the first time I was with a friend, and a huge bird was circling above, I don't remember being in any direct danger, but for whatever reason somebody came out of nowhere and shot the giant bird down, it looked like an eagle but much larger."

The huge bird represents your ideals or ambitions, noble, lofty and large. You feel that these were "shot down" in real life from an unexpected source. A bitter disappointment, a betrayal?

In describing the second dream, the dreamer wrote, "The second dream was last night, and it seemed as though this fox kept trying to attack me, and I'd fend it off. Eventually it got a hold of my forearm, and I'm struggling with it, when all of a sudden I take a knife and stick it straight through the foxes head (which feels surprisingly easy). After this I'm bleeding profusely and there are different odd characters from my life in places, and none of them will help me, I remember being concerned about the bleeding and infection."

This dream might actually be related to the first. You seem to be suspicious of an individual, someone whom you suspect may betray, attack and hurt you. This individual is not outright open about it, but prefers to do things under the table--at least that's how you perceive him/her. The dream suggests you may be overly defensive. Past actions or bitter conflict with friends/a friend could be coming back to bother you.

Like I said, animals are difficult, and I am more unsure of these readings than I usually am. Perhaps you can add or adjust from your own experience and feelings. Good luck and blessings!
