Trying to get on my surfboard

I am in what is my home that is on a cape (not real home however) and I know I am putting wax on my board to go out surfing, but it is not wax that I am putting on. Behind me is a white concrete fence/wall made of blocks that has octagonal gaps in it. Suddenly, I am out in deep water, I am treading water and the board is in front of me, with the lease wrapped around it, but the leash is not there. I begin to swim towards the board, it slowly glides away to the right out of reach, the tail of the board is closest to me with the front being farther away. It is at a 90 degree angle to me. As I swim close enough to grab the board it is now gliding away to the left at the same angle. The board did not turn though, it just all of sudden was headed the other way. The leash is now on the board. I decide to try to put the leash on in deep water but am unable to do so. I get onto the board but am very shaky, even as I try to paddle while laying on it. I go to paddle in and I either fall asleep (in the dream) or suddenly just appear where I was next. I come to in very shallow water, the nose of the board is in the sand in about a millimeter or two of water, and the fins are in about an inch of water. I am laying on my face with my left cheek on the board, although my face is not in wax. I then get a side view where I only see the fins in the water, nothing else. This dream only felt like it lasted less than 10 seconds, if that helps anything.

Info on me: 20, male. I currently do not have a job and am not in school, but I am working towards both. I have been clean for 9 months now through Narcotics Anonymous. So I guess I'm kinda at a crossroads of sorts right now with my life.

The fact that you were out in deep water, trying to get the leash but couldn't, and wound up back near shore suggests to me that the leash represents a goal. You're trying to grab the goal, but you're determination isn't enough to go for it, even if it's not going to be reachable. When you get back to shore, this just means you can still try again. So, it's not the kind of dream that means the goals are difficult to get to, but you just need to focus on it more. Does that make sense?

Yes, that makes perfect sense, I have a few things going that that fits, like me getting back into school and getting a job because I've had to take a little break from that to get clean, I've been clean 9 months now so it could also have represented needing to be more proactive in my recovery. But, yeah that makes perfect sense, thank you!
