rough dream, troubling me

Last night I dreamed I was a college student, but I did not have courses to take. There was a simple young man that assisted with cleaning he had simple charistics and medium length stringy brown hair and conservative clothes, someone wanted me to kill him and then I had a knife. I was basically like "no big deal".
After following this man around I remember almost always cutting my thumb on the blade in my pocket, as I constantly checked it, it was a jack knife with about a 5 inch rounded point blade. I looked for my opportunity over 1 day and did not find it.
The following day I had a couple friends around me, so I waited till I was in a room and called him over I pointed out something simple, it was a wicker ball and said to him "what is that"? He was reluctant, I persisted he pick it up and inspect it, as soon as he did I grabbed his head and ran the blade across his neck, I was shocked at how easy it slid through his skin and esophegous, I noticed though that I missed the coroted Artery, so I cut more and walked away. He bled. The Next day seemed like weeks later and I had done other things, I tried to feel guilty but did not and it seemed in my dream that I was feeling eird as to why I had no regret.....Not my first dream. But usually they are bad people.

I was bothered this morning after waking up, any ideas?

When they are bad people I have no issue that I shot them (because my dreams usually deal with guns),, This guy was innocent though. Hence why I was so bothered this morning. I am a military guy, security. I have an autistic son and have no desire to ever go to college. I worry about my son and what will happen to him after I depart but he is my joy, and I would crush someone that hurt him. Great family life. I have 32 personnel who work for me, they do dumb things sometimes.
But (back to the dream) girls wanted this guy dead like he offended them somehow....I am dissapointed with my actions in my dream. I was embarised to tell my wife about the dream. Like I was a monster.

Although it's true, that dreams reflect our activities, thoughts, ideas, feelings...

But it's not always so. At least, that's my opinion. I think, that dreams may sometime show us scenarios for the sake of us experiencing feelings we normally would not have chance to experience.

I once killed a dog in my dream. I love animals and I would never do anything to hurt an animal. Yet, my higher self chose to show me, how that would feel. Why, I don't know. I already knew that I would be really upset doing stuff like that in waking life. This was many years ago and every time I think about that dream, I feel like crap.

This dream doesn't mean that I have hidden desire to kill. And your dream doesn't mean, that you are a monster. Maybe the dream was reflecting on your thought that you would crush anybody who would hurt your family. And it's showing you, that maybe such fatal violence is not the best way to go. And now you know, how that would make you feel.

No need to be ashamed of our dreams, especially the non-lucid ones, that we have no control over. I take it as just another experience. Hope this helps a little. Happy dreams

If you are looking for reassurance that you're not a monster, I think I can help. You are thinking about the dream too literally. The act of killing in a dream is always symbolic, and it probably refers to cutting/killing something out of your life, your INNER life. For example, vomiting can represent cleansing some feelings you simply "can't stomach" anymore. Jung writes about physical illnesses caused by emotional conditions, and they all follow this "pun" on the body, the same pattern your dream shows when you cut the throat, esophagus and carotid artery. I have not yet had a cup of coffee yet this morning, or I would find the reference for you. Anyway, it's toward the beginning of Man and His Symbols if you want to look it up.
