Dream about physically feeling dying?

So I believe it was last night (Or the night before) I had a dream where I was LITERALLY (Physically) dying. Not the usual 'See myself in third person dying, or falling off a cliff and waking up'. This was literally dying. In my dream I KNEW I was dying. It was so weird. It was kind of calming/weird, and it was weird ONLY because I knew these were my last moments on Earth (In my dream). I wasn't scared of the physical act of dying, just knowing that I wouldn't be alive anymore.


Just recently I was wondering what it would feel like to die in your sleep (My friend died like this awhile ago). Maybe that has anything to do with it.

P.s. I'm not scared or paranoid about the dream because it was kinda cool. I'm just always interested to know what dreams mean. I have a lot of dreams, I've remembered several a night since a few months ago. So I have more dreams if anyone cares to hear. (Some dreams about science I never knew of, some about seeing ps3 hacking code that I couldn't decipher if my life depended on it, etc.)

Often dreams are just reflections of things we've been thinking about - especially if it's something emotional or important to you. Thinking about how your friend died and what it would feel like to go through it is enough to bring about a dream like this. You were in effect putting yourself in his place, trying to experience what he might have experienced.

Trust me this is a good dream.
It shows a process of transformation.
Although maybe just a bit violent.

Thank you for the replies. It's possible it actually was because I was thinking about how it felt for my friend to die in his sleep, but i was such a light and quick thought that I didn't think my dream would reflect it anytime soon. Also, to the second response, yeah I read something about that explanation as well (transformation). I woke up, or my dream ended and I had another one, right before I died (in my sleep). So maybe it wasn't a full "Transformation"?

^ Are you saying you didn't experience any strong emotions when your friend died? I doubt thats what you mean, but keep in mind that often our strongest emotions are repressed into the unconscious - we don't think we're experiencing anything in particular but really we're trying to shield ourselves from something we think might be too strong and so we repress it. Most people have repressed emotions sometimes and don't ever realize it. These repressed emtions will often form dreams.

Another thought: I think it is good that you were not scared or upset. We all must die eventually, and I think it is healthier to not be scared or worried about death. Of course if you start thinking too much about death, and welcoming it too much, that's not good, and could be sign of depression or of suicidal tendencies.However, I do not get that vibe from your post at all, so I think in your case it is a healthy thought of: death is not really scary and worrisome to me - which is good.

It was just incredibly weird. I'm scared of physically dying (Stroke, heart attack, etc.) but not scared of what happens after death. Really what was happening in my dream, was I was transitioning into the afterlife, or just beginning to, and at that point I realized )These are my last moments on Earth), then I woke up. But I can't exactly explain the feeling I felt. Like I said, the physical part was kind of relaxing, but just knowing these were my last moments (In my dream) was the scary/weird part. I'm not suicidal at all, or depressed, so I believe it was a positive dream.

Oh no sorry, he died about a year ago, and just recently the thought (I wonder how it felt for him to die in his sleep) crossed my mind. It was a random (Or "light/quick") thought.

But yeah that's a good observation. I always thought that as well.

You don't seem to understand what I'm saying. The thought itself was light and quick, but it's connected to a profound emotion that might be a year old but is still powerful. Thinking about such an experience, even lightly and briefly, will bring up the emotions though they may be repressed so you aren't aware of them. It's always funny when people say "oh no, I don't have any repressed emotions" - it so clearly demonstrates that they don't understand what the term means - if they're repressed you wouldn't know about them! :cheeky:

In fact it sound slike the dream may be your subconscious reassuring you that in the final moments your friend wasn't feeling fear or pain but was simply transitioning. I suspect that's what death is like once a person has accepted it and is no longer afraid.

I see, I always had the thought that people die ONLY when they're 100% ready. But that's a good observation. I never thought of it that way. It affected me at the time, but not again until recently. So I can see what you're getting at.Thinking about it that was is also interesting because it's crazy how the mind/subconscious can make such connections and present them in such interesting ways. I'm in an Electrical Technology programming in college right now, and whenever I have a hard time understanding a topic, I notice myself when I'm half awake/half asleep in the morning reciting how to solve a problem from my class. I even recite problems using real life props in my dreams (visualizing pillows/sheets for solving equations in my sleep).

In certain situations a strong will to live or the thought of 'unfinished business' can help to keep a person alive, but obviously some things will kill a person regardless of how ready they are - otherwise there would be people alive with no heads, or with a bullet through the heart etc. Interestingly though - sometimes people who have undergone a harrowing survival situation - like a shipwreck or being stranded in the arctic or in a desert - when they see rescuers approaching they might suddenly become relieved and just give up the struggle for survival they've been waging so far, and often these people die. The ones who live are the ones who even then hold onto the struggle and don't just relax when the rescuers show up.

Hello all, last night I had ANOTHER dream about dying. Please help me interpret it. As with my last dream above, I was never scared of my death in my dream, and I;m not scared about it now that I had dreams about it. Just curious as to what this dream also means.




A girl I'm physically attracted to from my work, and another friend were living in my room, and one night the girl asked me if" I was actually apart of the Air force"(Which I'm not), and I started replying "No, but my job (*The job work at now*) is associated with them"(Even though In real life it's not). Then the other friend in the room started tickling her and she almost fell on me (twice) and I really wanted her to (So she'd sit next to me), but she never did. Then she ended up sleeping in my bed, and her bed then disappeared, along with the other friend in the room. I started getting ready for bed, and she was already falling asleep. I wanted to hurry and get ready for bed so I could sleep with her while she was still awake so we could have sex, but getting ready took too long (*Quick note: as I was getting ready for bed in my dream, I tried going to my grandparents room and turning off their already turned off TV with my own TV remote). Finally I finish getting ready, so I start getting into bed, and as I am, I start kissing her leg, and she wakes up. Next thing I know I'm a cow, and she is too. Apparently, in the dream, I died and then Resurrected as a cow. I felt sad that I resurrected a cow, instead of a human. Then my dream cut to a dream where a guy on a phone was talking about how cows remember things because it's just their animal instinct, and he was throwing various items of food around a truck for cows to eat. Next dream I saw guys holding (Gold?Ruby? and a green diamond?) gold, red, and green colored (diamonds?) I believe. Then I was running down this beautiful cave with the same colored (diamonds?) flashing all over the walls. Then we got to the end (I was behind someone in the cave) and the guy in front of me tackled a guy who was just sitting in the cave.

Lastly, I went back to my cow dream and I felt excited that although I Resurrected as a cow after dying, I was happy that I knew I Resurrected with the same mother, and house as I had in my last life. However, I asked myself if I was "mixed"(as in race/ethnicity)(and which I actually am in real life) in my last life, and if i remembered dying and if dying was scary in my last life. However, I didn't know the answer in my dream.

I think most of this dream is about your attraction to this girl, and your inability to act on that attraction. I think part of you may think that the excuses for why you are not acting on this attraction are ridiculous not real: she does not fall on you when tickled, she falls asleep, you need to turn off a TV that's already off, you get resurrected as cows. The reasons are ridiculous to you. Are there any real obstacles to your not acting on your attraction? Have you come up with all these fake excuses to hide a more important reason which you do not wish to admit even to yourself, and so you need to make fun of yourself for it?

I am not convinced that this dream really was about dying. You turned into cows, and you needed an excuse as to why, so your mind rationalized it as "must have died." if there was dying in this dream, it may just be due to your still thinking about the other dream.

However, I think the main purpose of this dream is to analyze why you have not acted on your attraction to this girl, I think. And no, the real reason is not because you are cows.

But the cow may be an important metaphor: could it be that just like a cow chews food longer, you have been over analyzing this attraction instead of acting on it? Could it be that you feel you are not attractive enough or not agile enough (a fat cow)? Could it be that you think your attraction is just animal instinct not feeling based on true regard and respect of this girl as a human being? Cows udders could be girl's tits - are you more focused on her tits (and legs) than on who she truly is?

Or alternatively this dream may be telling you that you take yourself too seriously, that you need to have more fun, and enjoy the ridiculousness in life. :)

Thank you for the reply, excellent analyzing. I'll think more on that. I definitely focused more on the dying part of the dream, as it seemed most interesting because I just had another dying dream the night before, but your analysis seems more associated with what the dream was trying to tell me. It's possible that I've been using excuses to not ask her out, or thinking about the wrong reason I'm attracted to her (Just physical, instead of physical AND personality attraction).

Hello all, instead of making a new thread for each dream I have. I'll just add to this one.

Exciting dream I had last night ( I think) and I'm starting to believe the two dreams I stated above have to do with this one. This dream was long, so I'll get to the part I feel is most important.

Dream
I arrived at an apartment complex, and I was taking my cousin home (To her apartment) and we had to climb up stairs to get there.
So we started up the stairs, and after maybe 2 flights I said "how many flights are there" (I was kind of sick of climbing) and she said *9*. I remember each stair had a color(I believe the colors were yellow, red, and blue) and each set of stairs had a gap in between each stair that I was afraid of falling through(Except some sets had closed gaps between each stair that I of course wasn't afraid of falling through). Anyways, we get to the top, and I look over the balcony right in front of her door, and I noticed she forgot something downstairs in the parking lot. So I tell her and we head back down. However, right next to her house is an elevator, so I say "Why can't we take the elevator?", but I can't remember exactly what she said, but she said we can't. So we head back down. Going down the stairs was easy and I wasn't really afraid of falling down/through the stairs. So we get to the bottom and I turn around and on the VERY LAST set of stairs, on each stair it says "The Right Story 1" or it said "1 The Right Story". I can't remember which version was on the staircase. Then a couple other things happened and the dream ended. But the whole staircase thing was the most interesting to me. I remember reading about how houses usually correspond to the higher self, and even though this was an apartment, figured it was still the same. So I looked up a couple of sites about what numbers mean and I found some neat explanations.

*Going up stairs* Seamed to mean spiritually growing
*Going down stairs* seemed to mean repressed feelings.
* The number "1" seamed to mean Unity, Leadership, Creativity, etc.
*The number "9" seamed to usually mean rebirth, spiritual growth, finding my purpose in life (Which is what I think about a lot in a good way, not a suicidal way)

The Right Story makes me think of the opposite of the wrong story. So you were on the right path, but then had to go back to the beginning because of a fairly minor issue/distraction, even though it required a lot of effort to go up there, though it was easy to go back to the beginning but you will presumably need to go up there again because this is the right story for you.

I am not good at interpreting numbers and colors, but it sounds like you have already done a lot of progress on that part of the interpretation yourself. A word of caution: when reading dream dictionaries of what numbers/colors/symbols mean, as well as when reading someone else's interpretation (for example mine), you have to make sure the interpretation feels right to you, and matches your prior knowledge and feelings, because ultimately you are your own best dream interpreter because you know best what could be going on in your own mind.

Great analysis. You're right, I did some research and it felt exciting to see what I found in terms of what the numbers represent. Therefore, I'm going to believe them :banana:

FIRST DREAM:

I think a part of you died that was calming and good. These were your last moments for this possibly undesirable or old side of you.
Then the life after was glimpsed.
Then you woke up to where your experience left off, with the message of the beginning of the new you.

SECOND DREAM:

I agree with JoannaB the dream is about you have not acted on your attraction to this girl.
I like a cow chews food longer, have you been over analyzing this attraction instead of acting on it, which I read after my idea. And is it animal instinct.


THE GIRL of your DREAMS
You wanted to become friends with this girl you like, as you are only associated with her now.
Then your thought of being friends with her tickled your fancy of her. As you hoped you would land her.
