New some help interpreting this odd dream.

Last night I had a dream that I was in a mansion owned by an older version of one of my friends ( like he was 20 years older than normal) and he had a daughter ( she was like 8 or 9 yrs old) who was dying of some sort of sickness and in the dream I was staying at his mansion to comfort his daughter but the strange part was that I was myself but I was a girl ( i was still 17 yrs old but the only difference was that I was a girl) and when I met the daughter she hug me calling me her new sister which made me feel so bad I started crying in the dream while i hugged her back. Now this to me must have a seriously deep meaning behind it, any ideas?

The dream setting or stage is a Mansion. The house in a dream represents one's state of mind or conciousness. A mansion would suggest at this time, your mind is open and you see the possibilities for your life as vast. You are not limiting yourself which is good. Other people in our dreams usually represent certain qualities you see in that person and the dream asks you to apply these qualities in how you think about your life at present. What are the first things you think of when you think of this friend. Now age the man 20 years....and how do you see his life.....and that could suggest you in the future. Being yourself, a guy, but in the dream a girl, says that it's possible that you need to open yourself to being more sensitive, more intuitive, more receptive....live on the right side of the brain. In other words, although you are a guy physically to not be afraid to let your self express these qualities when the situation calls for it. Don't man up and deny how you feel or be afraid to show those emotions and care for others. In the dream the girl "who was sick" could be symbolized for a woman or girl friend of your who could use your support and sensitivity and these actions are appreciated.

Whenever I have a dream when I am not myself actually, it often suggests to me that either there were some powerful emotions in that dream or something that made me uncomfortable, and thus I wanted to distance myself from it. Or at other times it is a sign that things are not what they appear: I at times have metaphorical dreams, where things stand for something else, and often when I am not myself, that is a clue for me to look at what else is not itself. Another possibility is that the dream is actually not about myself but about someone else who I just happen to identify with in the dream. Sometimes it's like a movie or a novel and I am an actress playing a role in it: and sometimes I think that is mainly for entertainment - I like watching movies and reading fiction, so sometimes my dreamlife provides me some of that, too.

The aging of the friend could be your wondering what is going to become of him or of you in the future. You are 17? That's an age which is kind of like a crossroads, so much could happen, so much will, and there are so many possibilities ahead of you. Who knows what you or any of your friends will be like say 20 years from now? But part of you might wonder that.

Hugging the sick girl could be a sign of compassion, a sign that you are basically a nice person, and the girl acknowledges that, but this makes you uncomfortable. I believe it is rather normal for especially young men such as yourself to be uncomfortable in situations where too many emotions are displayed, especially by a member of the opposite sex no matter how young or old. Yes, in the dream you were supposedly a girl, but deep down of course you remained a guy, and continued to think and feel like a guy your age, and thus being uncomfortable when a girl calls you her new sister.

This dream has you taking on feminine aspects in order to cultivate a relationship or comfort someone in need.

Dreams are often compensatory and I think taking that into account, you could easily say that you are trying to tell yourself that need to get into touch with the "feminine" parts of your psyche in order to reconcile with or heal another part of your psyche. Or simply that you need to be more compassionate and try to "walk in someone else's shoes" in order to communicate with them.

On a darker note it could also be that you need to accomplish this healing before the little girl inside the mansion of your consciousness (whomever she is to you; your childhood?) "dies".
