I wouldn't worry too much about the new house because of this dream if I were you.
I am thinking that perhaps your wife was wondering about the new house, wondering whether people had been sick in it, whether anyone had died in it, wondering about its history.
The gaps in between the steps could be about safety concerns. Have you done a home inspection looking especially for anything that may be safety issues? Please note that this dream would in that case not necessarily mean that there are any safety concerns, but it could mean that your wife is subconsciously worried that there might be.
However, the gaps in the stairs could also just be because the new house is not familiar yet, so her mind does not know it well enough yet to reproduce it accurately. Or it could be just to add a general feeling if unease or at least lack of familiarity.
Move to a new home is always stressful in a way, and this dream may just be a reflection of that. Once the house becomes more familiar over time, once it really feels like home, the quality if dreams about it is bound to change: it will then become home and safety, whereas now it is still insecure and unfamiliar and worrying - even if your wife consciously loves the new house, her subconscious has not yet accepted it as home.
Of couse, there may be other interpretations, and if any of these do not sound right, please disregard.
