Wedding with Old Classmate - and I have divine digital powers!

I'm a 28 year old research student in Australia and I've been having a lot of dreams recently as it is a stressful period. I have an app on my phone where I usually self-interpret my dreams. However, some dreams are just beyond self-interpretation.

I've actually had a total of 3 dreams last night. I cannot remember details from the first, I self-interpreted the second (potatoes, cars and married women!), but the third stumps me.

It is about my wedding to a former classmate. I had a year-long crush on her when I was 13, but never saw her again after I graduated from high school at 17. A few years ago, she ended up as one of my Facebook contacts though I still didn't see her in person. Recently, she got married (to someone else). Here's the dream itself:

I'm at my wedding to this ex-classmate, where the guests are all present (I didn't recognize any of them), but there is no furniture. So - get this - I zoomed out until the scene was on a (computer?) screen and added furniture Sim City style with some mouse clicks! Then I zoomed back in and the wedding ceremony began.

During the marriage vows on the stage, after I said "I do" (I remember a moment of hesitation there), she said them too, but jokingly added "forever? but that's too long!" She kissed me after that (off stage), and remarked that I had a grain of rice in my mouth, which I did. I also remember her wearing pink lipstick.

I then walked among the guests, and then

      I woke up.

Ok, I see you had already found the dream interpretation section when I posted the reply to your intro thread.

I think the wedding to a former classmate who you used to have a crush on is a "what if" dream: what if things had turned out differently, what if your life were at a different point than it is right now, and had made different choices that had led you to a different present. I don't think the marriage to the classmate is necessarily what this dream is about specifically, this may be just one example of something that could have happened differently, but unless you still deep down regret not being with her, that's probably not it, but rather just an example standing in for the more general concept. That concept could be "what if I had made different choices" or "what if instead of focusing on studies and career I had chosen to pursue becoming a family man, love, marriage, commitment," or something else.

I think the furniture is missing because this idea is not fully filled in with all the details, it is just a sketchy what if scenario.

The zooming out an it being all on the computer, could be a reminder that some part of your mind knew all along this was not real, it was just a virtual wedding, an idea that was not meant to be taken literally in real life.

I wonder whether the "forever? But that's too long" is about commitment issues. It could be about your hesitancy over commitment to any relationship, or it could be about commitment to your chosen field of study or career, if the dream is meant to be more symbolic: marriage standing in for any type of commitment. Basically the dream could be asking, do you want to commit to "this" or "anything" for ever, are you sure that is what you want for the rest of your life? Are you hesitant about your life choices right now whether you should commit to them or change your plans after all. Is it still time to choose differently or too late because the vows have already been made, too much time invested in these studies, etc?

And I am using the studies as just one example of how a dream could stand for some other issue entirely. Only you can know where your current issues are.

The grain of rice in mouth is an interesting detail, and I admit these are just guesses about what it could represent: Grain of rice standing in for a grain of truth? Or a strange taste in mouth that is not quite appropriate for the occasion / moment? A tiny bit of basic nourishment? Something that is common and important / fundamental to your survival or success, but that there is too little of to nourish your needs, perhaps? Perhaps your emotional or othe needs are not being sufficiently nourished right now?

That's all I can think of right now. As always, if any of my ideas do not sound right, feel free to discard them.

Thanks for your in-depth analysis, JoannaB. It's quite spot on with regards to my current concerns! Quite a number of relatives and old friends took different paths in life and currently live quite differently as a result. I do wonder from time to time how things would have turned out if I had different priorities earlier in life.

About the rice grain, my Dream Moods phone app interprets it as a success/prosperity symbol. However, in light of the rest of your interpretation, I suppose it might mean I am not yet "nourished" enough to even think about becoming a family man - I would need to "settle down" first.

I am glad the interpretation fit.

The rice could also represent a hope for prosperity, especially if you were already familiar with that symbol, I think. Personally I used to be skeptical of dream dictionaries that assume universal symbolism that one was not familiar with before reading the dream dictionary. Although I am beginning to wonder a bit and have become more open minded about that - the way it would work I think if it works is if there is some shared consciousness (for example: I am a Christian and we have the concept of the Holy Spirit; otherwise some universal subconscious telepathy, or even the idea that we all exist in one mind and that separate minds are an illusion) - if there is shared consciousness then universal symbols could be present in dreams, even if the dreamer had no prior knowledge of symbol, but without shared consciousness, I think universal symbols are unlikely to be universal. I would be skeptical of dream dictionaries, unless they ring true and seem to fit, then might as well accept those ideas.

mm good point. I also wonder if different dreams over consecutive nights could have a shared message as well. I've been having quite a few recently (always when I go back to sleep after waking up early). I wonder if these will continue...

Hmm, I was just coming here to ask about one of my dreams. And, yes, it involves a former female classmate - I'm male - but I never had a crush on her.

Your second dream involved marriage, and this one also involved marriage, except to someone you were interested in. Is there a connection? Perhaps it is time you settled down?

Dreams interpretation should be personal to the dreamer, but, since I also dreamt of my classmate, perhaps this is someone from the past sending you a message?
