The stranger most likely does not exist in waking reality, not this stranger anyway. There is likely a person out there for you who will someday hold you like that in comfort, and I would suggest that this is what you seek, this personal intimacy, having someone to cherish you and just comfort you when needed.
This dream was a lucid dream though, you were aware it was a dream. The way things like this work in any dream but especially in a lucid dream: expectations cause what happens next. You wanted this stranger there, you expected him there, so there he was. In lucid dreams one way of making someone or something appear is to expect them to be right behind one, and then turn around and find them there. While it sound like you were not consciously controlling your dream, but your subconscious may have done this for you.
