PLEASE help me with this weird dream!!

I had the strangest dream last night which has left me scared to fall asleep, i'm not sure whether or not it was sleep paralysis.
I'm 18, female, from just outside London.

In this dream, I was going on a road trip around america, which i especially want to do lately. The first stop on the trip was a secluded, old looking house- where me and my cousin would be staying with a local family. The start of the dream was really happy and exciting.

My cousin's parents, my aunt and uncle, both died and for the past 4 years she has lived with me. However, we are not often close and there is usually quite a lot of tension/resentment between us.

In this house i was shown to my own room, which was very bare, run down and creepy looking. The only thing i can remember in the room is a single bed with dirty looking covers and a picture/tapestry of an old woman on the wall (I didn't recognise her and wouldn't be able to remember what she looked like). I was told to go to bed by the lady who lived in the house, and was told that at a certain time of night something would be talking to me outside my door but by no means could i get out of bed (when she told me this she was shouting at me).

Next, i was laying in bed unable to sleep waiting for the point in the night where something would be outside my door. Then suddenly, as if surrounding me, there was incomprehensible shouting and screaming. It felt as if there were flashing images but i couldnt tell you what of, and I felt so terrified. It felt like i was pinned down, i was kicking my legs and screaming but couldnt move. I can't tell, I may have been pinned down by the emotion of fear (not by a specific thing scaring me), I may also have felt unable to move because of the order that the woman gave me. Either way, i was attempting to move and couldn't, all that i could move was my legs, which were kicking.

Suddenly the screaming and images stopped and it felt as if a physical pressure was relieved from my chest. For a moment, i felt very calm. Then the picture or tapestry of a woman on the wall burst into flames and was seemingly screaming. I felt like this was a good thing and was almost congratulations for not moving from my bed.

Later in the dream, my cousin and I had ended up in the same bed because we were scared. At this point we felt close and needed the presence of one another, however there was a feeling that we shouldn't be together as it would upset whatever caused the screaming and fire. I cant remember many details from this point onwards about the dream, but the woman who's house we were in appeared in the doorway and told us we would be punished for being together. All of a sudden the room began to heavily flood. Here, i blacked out.

In my dream, I was then in a forest with a big group of people who's faces i didn't particularly know but who i recognised as friends.
I was attempting to tell them about the previous events and was saying 'I had this really weird dream last night' but no body was listening and everyone were laughing and brushing off my concerns. I didn't feel upset at this disregard, I was relieved and tried to move on. I had the feeling, however, that I was in danger because i had escaped the house and that the flood was following me somehow but im not sure how.

Please help me with this dream, at the moment I'm so on edge and scared to go to sleep.

That definitely does sound like sleep paralysis, though it seems odd that you had a warning it was going to happen before it did. It seems like usually people are in SP right from the beginning of a dream, but I can't say for sure. Did you already know what SP was before having this dream, or did you research afterwards and learn about it? If you did already know there's a chance you might have simply had a dream about SP. One other thing was odd - usually people in true SP are unable to move at all except for their eyes, at least at first. The fact that you were able to kick your legs makes it seem like not full SP, or like you were just dreaming about it, though the rest of it does sound legitimately like SP. Though people do frequently have some of the effects of SP without experiencing all of them, as if sometimes maybe you can be very close to it without actually waking up while your body is asleep.

I have no thoughts about the rest of the dream (sorry), except the last part where you told people about it. That's fairly common behavior for someone who wants to remember a dream. Around here we keep dream journals, and quite often we'll dream of writing in them or of telling people about a dream we just had, because our mind is trained to try to impress each dream in memory somehow. Maybe you really wanted to remember this one and so were telling people as a way of impressing it in memory?

Yeah I've heard about sleep paralysis before, so maybe I was just dreaming about it! I've never had a dream like that before where I actually felt pressure on my chest, so it was scary but it does seem like it was just a dream rather than actual SP...

      Thanks!
