How to learn to interpret your dreams?

I like using my non-lucid dreams to get information. I don't always do it, but when I need advice or insight about something I read through my dreams and look for dream signs I can interpret. Then, I use the Dream Moods dictionary (do you know about it?) to try and make sense out of my dream signs. Problem is, sometimes I find it hard to tell the meaningful signs from the non meaningful, I mean, not everything that appears in the dream will have a meaning. Also, sometimes the dictionary suggests alternative interpretations and you have to choose the one that's the most appropiate.

Do you interpret your non-lucid dreams? If so, how do you do it? I think dreams have a lot of interesting things to tell us and I'd like to make the most of it.

      Thanks!

I'm not really good at the hole dream interpretation thing either but I find keeping tabs on reoccurring symbols and the weight of importance they hold in the dream kinda helps deciphering what they mean to you and how the are relative to you, for example I have found when I dream that white (often described as pure in dream dictionaries) that often means danger if worn on anything but myself and that dark places are less likely to have evil lurking. So you may find something like that occurring in your dreams oh and evaluate what's going on in real life for you at the time of the dream because that can effect dreams as well revealing any stress about problems you may have at the time.

How to learn to interpret your dreams?

First, I would suggest that you do not look to dream dictionaries for interpretations -- or even guidance -- to your dreams. Though there may be a few general archetypical similarities shared by all dreamers (i.e., deep pools of water tend to symbolize the unconscious), there is really not a singular set of meanings attached to anything you dream. In other words, if you, say, dream of a dachshund, you are not necessarily "... highlight[ing] your loyalty and devotion to others, " nor are you necessarily "well grounded and rational in your thinking." I chose that example randomly from the Dream Moods dictionary, which looks to me to be just as useless as all the rest of the dream dictionaries out there.

Dream interpretation tends to work best when you can go to an expert and have them interpret for you... but keep in mind that this must be done in person by a qualified examiner who knows you very well; dreams cannot be effectively interpreted over the internet by strangers, no matter what they tell you. Yes, sometimes these dictionaries get something right, but usually that's more a case of clever wording by the interpreter/dictionary, or overly hopeful listening by the dreamer; sort of the way newspaper horoscopes work.

Though I don't think it's a great idea, you can interpret your own dreams, if you take care and are willing to do a little work. This is done through careful examination of what you dreamed, involving thoughtful introspection based on what you dreamed, and what those remembered images might mean specifically to you. You also must learn to gather all of the symbols and images from your dream, whether you thought they were important or not, and assemble them in a pattern that speaks to you. There is an excellent book called Inner Work, by Robert A. Johnson, that clearly describes a four-step approach to interpreting your dreams, which is still available at Amazon. If you are serious about interpreting your dreams, then I highly recommend that you step away from the dream dictionaries and get your hands on a copy of this book.

I used to try interpret my dreams before my lucid journey begun, but have long since abandoned it (I actually used dream moods dictionary). Now the closest i get to interpretation is trying to feel the dream and what it may represent in my current situations.

Here's something that may be worth reading perhaps: Dream Interpretation - The Paul Solomon Source Reading Excerpt #113

This is an excerpt from a guy called Paul Solomon, who claimed to channel answers to questions asked of him from a metaphysical "Source". Whether you believe in this kind of thing or not is besides the point. I personally have gained a lot from the information I have read from this guy's source.

Hope it can be useful in some way!
