      No food, money

I was in my residence and a man came in and starting eating all my food. I felt rather upset as I did not have much and very little money to pay bills. I said I don't mind sharing but that is all I have. He gave me a large fist full of bills and said buy more. I felt much better and it seemed I could quite easily after that pay all my bills. I wasn't rich but was no longer wondering where money was coming from. The gentleman gave me the impression I had met his type before and wasn't one to part with money easily.

Although in order to provide an accurate interpretation it would usually be best to have some additional general background information about you as well as a description of recent events just before the dream, a residence usually symbolizes the dreamer’s overall state of mind and level of awareness, along with various other psychological attributes.

In your dream, a man enters and begins to eat all of your food which upsets you.

However, your reaction leaves out what you would normally do if anything like this happened in outer life; that is, you would most likely ask him to leave immediately since he is a total stranger.

The scenario in your dream might therefore suggest that an unknown part of you could potentially “barge in” and “consume” your energy and interests too much (e.g. all of your food is eaten and by implication, the money required to pay for it and other bills).

Food symbolically relates to the idea of the “raw materials” of experience (as symbolized by uncooked food ingredients which are then fully processed).

They need to be “heated” and “cooked” by self-reflection in order to then be “eaten”, “digested” and understood more fully so that we can move ahead effectively.

Though the man gives you enough money to pay for the food as well as the other bills with apparently lots left over, the implication seems to be that he might keep coming back or want something more than food in return etc.

If so, you’re shown as maybe potentially becoming dependent on a “stranger”, meaning that perhaps certain feelings of interest and enthusiasm as provided by a certain way of acting and thinking (i.e. the money which the man gives you) could in the long run interfere somehow with a fuller “digestion” of everyday real experiences and the accumulation of personal understanding and wisdom over time (i.e. the stable and undisturbed consumption of “food” might continue to be interrupted in the future).

As an example, you love to play computer games and do genealogy. Perhaps the dream is showing that there might possibly be an early trend towards these activities “barging in” and “taking over” too much.

If so, though they are giving you lots of enjoyment at the present time, the danger could be that they and perhaps some other mostly solitary activities might potentially lead too far away from everyday experiences with others.

Maybe computer games and genealogy are relatively new interests which have been especially enjoyable whereas previous activities were more routine (e.g. the man reminds you of the type who doesn’t give up “money”, i.e., interest and enjoyment, very easily but this time, something you’re “consuming” has made this inner figure excited, causing it to barge and eat your food for some reason).

Anyway as mentioned, without knowing anything much about you, this interpretation might not fit your personal circumstances very well but I hope these ideas can be helpful in some way.

Please feel free to make any comments or to ask any questions that you may want to about this particular way of looking at your dream.

I've been going through tough times and I have in the past done a lot of research for people and they take and never repay. The setting was my own tiny one bedroom apartment, living/kitchen area one room. I've not done much genealogy in awhile and my computer at the moment is my only source of entertainment. I don't have close friends or close relatives.

I am also on disability and where I live it is not enough to live on. So one does what one can.

I’m sorry that you’ve been having a difficult time but I’m glad that you’ve provided some more details about your situation because I think that they might help to show how your dream is trying to provide a useful tip on what to do in the future.

For example, the latest detail that you provided about recently telling people they would receive no more free research probably could change the interpretation of your dream somewhat.

That’s because this extra detail which came to mind was likely what’s called an “association” to the dream.

These are important spontaneous memories, thoughts and feelings etc. that attach themselves to a given dream and which can provide very valuable clues about its meaning.

In this case, I would say that standing up for yourself assertively and refusing to do research without being paid was maybe something that an inner part of you has “hungered” after very much for a long time (the man who arrives on the scene and devours all your food).

Perhaps you’re a quiet person who usually hesitates to disappoint people or to hurt their feelings, but gradually developing more assertiveness skills might be very helpful and give you an increased feeling of energy and determination (the money) which can help in dealing with your disability for example.

If this way of looking at your dream seems to hit the mark in some way, perhaps a local library provides the option of downloading e-books in various formats onto a computer and you could look for various ones about improving assertiveness skills at little or no cost. And if you’re basically an inward looking person overall, “The Introvert Advantage: How to Thrive in an Extrovert World” by Marti Olsen Laney, Psy.D.” is also probably available in a library and would be quite helpful as well.

I’m sure library staff would be glad to answer any questions about this process and maybe there is a doctor or a contact regarding your disability payments who could also look into this or other similar resources for you.

Anyway, if you have any further questions or comments, please let me know.

Its interesting I'm finding that now I stand up I feel better. Once in the past I dreamt one dream 3 times and it came to be. I'm sure thats more the exception than the rule. I'm working on a program to get work I'm only slightly disabled just can't do a lot of heavy lifting. I'll post again with the next vivid dream like that.
