Although in order to provide a more accurate interpretation it would usually be best to have some general background information about you (and a description of events just before your dream and your son’s dream), it’s possible that you have been anxious, “on edge” or upset for some reason for a few months although maybe you can’t quite understand why.
If so, the round spaceships in the dreams represent a deep part of your mind that is trying to help.
This is based on the analogy that any being that is able to create a spaceship and ride across the universe is better and smarter than “earth people”, that is, you as an individual ego.
These “beings in the spaceships” actually want to help but maybe what they want is for you to be “shocked” and to leave your old ways of doing things (e.g. you are afraid when you see them, the car gets stuck in the ditch).
Changing the way we act and the beliefs we have etc. can be very hard to do, so you “run away” from this in the dream (you run across the field and into the woods).
The man in the car you go back to check on probably stands for an opinion, belief or way of acting etc. that isn’t good for you, but he’s OK after the accident, maybe emphasizing the idea that it will be hard to change the opinion etc. that he represents.
This belief etc. might also be symbolized by the convenience store/concrete shed type of building in the woods.
That is, the building could represent something that can’t really “feed” and “nourish” you well enough in your current situation since it’s small, in the middle of nowhere and doesn’t have the range of food etc. that’s available in a large supermarket for instance.
As a very general example of what might be going on, many women believe that they must always help others and be nice to them although they are not being kind enough to themselves by expressing in some way their real feelings etc., so this might be happening to you and maybe it’s time for a change now that your children are apparently older and don’t need your help as much etc.
In any case, at the end of your dream you still want to hide from the creatures in the spaceships, maybe because such creatures are usually thought of as being very intelligent and knowing what the right thing to do is, but you sense what they want you to do won’t be what you want to do because you will find it very hard to change.
Since your son probably feels very close to you and apparently something is still bothering you deep down, he had the same dream which isn’t really that uncommon between people who are close.
The fact that the unknown man was driving the car this time might mean that the fixed opinion, belief, habit or attitude etc. that apparently is not good for you to have could be “getting worse” because it’s controlling your energy and body too much at this time (i.e. he is “driving the car”).
To find out what’s going on, it might help if you focus your attention of the man in the car and then write down every spontaneous memory, thought and feeling that comes to mind.
Then by looking through the memories etc., hopefully a clue will become clear about what he represents so that you can make any changes etc. that the “spacemen” want.
If so, you should feel better if you don’t at this time, and also, you and or son shouldn’t have this dream again.
Anyway as mentioned, without knowing anything much about you, this way of looking at the dreams might not fit your personal circumstances very well, but I hope these ideas can be helpful in some way.
Please feel free to ask any questions or to make any comments about this particular way of looking at these dreams.
