      Talking Eagle

I was wondering if anyone could tell me about a dream i had and have been having...It all started with me walking into the forest and finding a clearing where many people were joined in a circle..these people were all Native Americans and were all wearing different kins of clothing..After noticing the people, I then noticed a Huge (10') tall Bald Eagle in the center of the circle, the people were praying to this Eagle and for some reason I felt compelled to draw closer and sit. It was then the Eagle walk in front of me, I remember being scared at first that the Eagle was going to attack me but just then this Eagle began to speak to me..He said my name was not what i thought and that we were brothers, the same he said. he also said that I have been asleep for many centuries, living in the bodies of various people thru time. He then said that it was time for me to awaken, he said these people were praying for me to help them..He also told me that i was dreaming and that he would stay with me until I woke up. He said he would keep telling me my real name so that when i awoke i would remember my name..I did. This name is sacred to me..during this dream and still today The eagle returns and teaches me how to do special things, He has shown me the end of the earth and how some people are to survive it..I have never had Native American dreams before and since this dream i have discovered that my great grandmother was a full blooded Pequot. I dont quite know what to make of these dreams and how to understand what is being shown to me..Can anyone out there help me with this..If so I would like to share more of the dream..I just dont want to say too much...

First of all, welcome to dreamviews!

As for this Eagle, it sounds like you have a genuine dream guide. I don't know if you know about them but many people meet animal figures in their dreams that teach them how to do stuff, or just guide them around the dream. Mine is a penguin and he has taught me to bend the elements which was pretty freaking' Awesome. Also, they are usually associated with a animal that you have a strong connection to in waking life.

Have you ever had a dream, Neo, that you were so sure was real? What if you were unable to wake from that dream? How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world?

I frequently have dreams where people or animals teach me things. Often I only remember parts of the dream when I wake up, which is unusual for me. A lot of what they teach has to do with spirituality. These dreams are sacred to me.

It is up to you how you will interpret and act upon these dreams. Perhaps, if you have the chance, you sould ask the Eagle for advice.

I'm not Native American, so I can't offer any special insight. Perhaps you sould consider contacting a tribe in your area.

I have asked the Eagle, he says that when I tell this story the people who will help me will also awaken and recognize what I am saying..He says that soon the black gate will open and when it does the world will fall silent, he says that It will be so silent that when men speak their words will fall to the ground like Iron. He also says there is a great plague coming, this plaque will affect all peoples of all colors, he also says that the plants will turn against man and become poisonous. i have been shown how to grow in new ways, how to travel without movement, to heal, and to protect. The Eagle says that there are others who are sleeping that will awaken when they hear this story. My name as spoken by the Eagle will also be known when it is said. But I can only reveal it to those who will listen. I can only say that he comes to me just about every night, and lives with me during the day within my mind. If there are those who find this tale familiar to them and would like to hear more, please send me a message.

well I do believe that dreams do have pyschic content. They can link to the future. Yet its also a mistake to interpret all dreams as pyschic dreams. There is another type of dream which reflects the inner workings of the mind. Such dreams literally represent our thoughts. They could link to how we feel and if summed up they could be quoted eg "yesterday I felt a real surge of spiritual enthusiasm. I feel it more so now"
I think that many of your dreams represent the inner person. Your own pysche. Its almost a conversation with yourself. In some ways this tends to belittle the dreams meaning. But you need not look at it like this

      ------------------------
Dreams are best seen as building blocks of our own very thinking. They actually represent internal thought processes. The best way to understand dream symbols is to see them as words or collections of words. By themselves they make no real sense. For instance if a soldier appears in a dream we cannot truly understand that it means one thing. We have to interpret the symbol. Dreams symbols interact with each other and so their meaning can start to make more sense.
If someone utters the word 'war' in a dream then we cannot understand what the meaning of the sentence is just by understanding the meaning of the word 'war'. Yes war has many different meanings and it can be used in many different contexts. In the same way if the dream contains a war or warlike situation we cannot make any immediate conclusions on its meaning. The simple get out clause of all dream interpretors was to make simplistic comments. That war in dreams means that you have got to face some major challenge head on. Thats truly underestimating the true complexity of dream language. The truth is that dreams can use war in just as many ways as we do in spoken language. It may refer to a warlike situation involving you or someone close to you. It may refer to some war like situation in the past that has already been resolved. It may refer to your worries that someone is being warlike towards you. So in truth a dream is not easy to interpret. Often there are no immediate clues to say that the dream is about you or someone else, and also no indication as to when the dream refers to (past, present or future). But its best to keep in mind the various possibilities. Keep an open mind.
Just imagine the following three phrases "my boss said we need to wage war on these sloppy practices", "She was really waging war on me", "Tommorrow is going to be tough - the atmosphere is warlike" and "I was thinking about my experiences in the war". These are all rich in meaning and the presence of the word war does not in itelf give some strong clue as to the meaning of the sentence. In the same way the presence of a dream symbol does not by itself mean that much.
These pages are especially helpful in showing you how to interpret dreams

That is a very good explanation to the body of most dreams, however this was an awakening dream, I was being told that i was dreaming as well as knowing it. It wasent at all like other dreams i have had in the past..this one continues even during my awake periods. This presence remains and has been able to tell me what events are taking place and they materialize Exactly as described. So am i to believe that this is all in my head to begin with? I really do respect your understanding of dreams, however there is more to the universe and our spirituality than that. I will keep watching for others input, I believe someone will be able to fill in the blanks.

      Hi ezmoto
I do tyotslly understand that there is more to the world than just my own approach. I always interpret a dream in this way first because these are the most common types of dreams. Premonitions - in my own experience - are less common. Yet they do exist and so does telepathy.
You seem to say that the dreams continue on into waking life. That sounds like a phenonoma known as hypnopompic imagery. I have had that. Its continued on fr almost an hour afterwards and seemed very strange. It linked to my own spiritual awakening.
I know I do believe in these things yet i am also cynical. I try to to say evertything poinbts to pyschic phenonoma. Mainly because many people would be seriously freaked out by this.
      ------------------------
Nightmares have the ability to really frighten us. Thats because they contain weird and supernatural dream symbols such as demons and monsters. The forces that we fight against seem all too powerful. But really many nightmares are sourced right in the here and now. They symbolize our day to day traumas and difficulties. Many simply reflect on the previous day. Perhaps you simply took one risk too many? Perhaps you acted in a nasty and malicious way and your dream is alerting you to this.
Many nightmares will not mention anything that can remotely link to real life in any meaningful way. But the link to reality is there. Really the best way to see nightmares is simply ask your self what real life situations are drifting into some nightmare scenario? What relationship is becoming a real problem? If you look up nightmare in the dictionary its definition is probably more down to earth than dreams would have us believe. A nightmare is really just a very big problem. In real life we get problems all the time and sometimes they get out of hand.

      Exclamation Spiritual Awakening

I believe you have hit the nail one the head...The Eagle said that it was time for me to awaken, he also said that there were several spirits within me trying to keep that from happening,,,they could be purged at Sun Dance, sweat Lodges,Prayer, etc. This entire journey came out of nowhere and has been very revealing, I have been to tribal elders and have been taken to many ceremonies where i have seen fantastic things. I am looking for my two brothers who will awaken when they hear this tale and help me on this voyage, this was foretold to me. The things that the world will encounter in the upcoming years is not for me a possibility...it is for certain, I have seen the black gate opening and have witnessed its destruction...However I have learned to do things in my dreams that i can actually do in real life..they are very intense abilities and sometimes I feel that they are too much for any person to have..I only anticipate the ones with who i can finally reveal this all to...It sounds like you have had similiar experiences, however mine have been told to me as having purpose and the need for understanding. which, along with other forums and groups is beginning to bring some light..I am seeking ones who will help...

As you recognize, this dream and the subsequent inner conversations you’ve had are of immense depth and importance, so to speak of them on a website is very difficult and true justice can’t really be done to them, especially since they have apparently revealed to you your true vocation as a shaman.

However if I may, I would like to try to comment on your dream and vision as well as provide a few general ideas and resources that you may find useful.

First off, the psychology developed by Carl Jung is likely one that you would find extremely valuable in clarifying your overall experiences with the dream and inner dialogues. That’s because Jung treated such events as totally real and valuable. He would also have respected the teachings of the elders whom you have been speaking with.

However, Jung and his adherents have developed additional ways of enhancing and deepening our understanding of such events while retaining a sense of awe, reverence and mystery surrounding them.

In speaking about your dream, please remember that I may not be able to get across very well how a Jungian analyst would view it, but here goes.

For example, the forest usually symbolizes the unconscious mind. However, Jung postulated not only a personal unconscious where everything that the ego ever experienced is recorded, but also a deeper collective unconscious where the repeated experiences of tens of millions of humans have been recorded over the eons. Traces of these experiences, not “memories” per se are likely embedded in DNA as a sort of collective record.

This is where your dream is coming from, the deepest layer of your mind.

The circle is a universal image of wholeness and completion, and here spontaneously appears as an important image in your dream.

Dream language shows the eagle’s innate importance by depicting it as being 10’ tall. Of course, an eagle has many symbolic connections, but its essence appears in its high flight and keen eyesight; that is, on analogy, it is connected with spirit (air), intellect (eyes), and the imagination (flight). Its strength and fierceness suggest aggressive instinctive impulses that can be used to develop spiritual strength and insight rather than remaining too passive about such things.

Usually when wildlife speaks to the dreamer, this indicates that a deep instinctive layer of the psyche is trying to communicate timeless truths, and this has clearly happened in your case, partly because you have been very open and receptive.

The symbol of the secret name is very widespread and always relates to the true ineffable essence of a person, his or her unique potential.

In the vision above where you mention that others will awaken, “awaken” usually means that a person will become conscious, just as we become conscious (awake) after sleep (unconsciousness).

The black gate opening could represent something like seeing the vast dark potential of non-ego forces that exist within and outside the human mind. This can cause the ego such fear that a sign of the human ego (speech) is overwhelmed and falls silent, perhaps to depression and despair for example. Such things can tend to happen on an individual level or in a whole society.

The plague could be not only external but a psychic plague, stupid destructive ideas, prejudices, fixed rigid beliefs etc. that further the destruction involved, whether individual or societal.

Plants can represent, for example, the nervous system (on the analogy of the “stems” representing the web of nerves etc. in the human body), so turning “poisonous” could symbolize for instance something like continuous paralyzing anxiety.

It looks like you have the potential to calm and heal spiritual anxiety in the face of the increasingly difficult outer challenges of the world at large.

However, the spirits within who want to keep you from this vocation can be viewed as psychological complexes, faults and failings that are universal in us all.

The various traditional ceremonies are able to awaken and encourage your voyage because they are rooted in the instinctive life of one part of your ancestry, one that’s very close to the earth, nature, and basic meaning.

It’s possible that while the two brothers may be outer persons, they could also be additional inner resources such as certain ways of orientating yourself that you don’t normally use. As an example, your visions would likely be best absorbed if additionally organized in some way. This could be helped for instance through artistic expression or perhaps writing them in story form. Or you could compose music perhaps.

Another way would be to classify them albeit sensitively and respectfully as I’ve been trying to do by adding the dimension of what they mean symbolically and “practically” for example. This would be through study of world symbolism and carefully thinking about their meaning in this context, perhaps representing another “brother” who could be developed.

But there’s no real way to tell what the eagle was referring to, whether inner, outer, or both. For example, a meaningful coincidence may occur where by apparent chance, a person arrives on the scene who is able to somehow help your quest in a practical and useful way. I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s important to remain grounded in some way amid these powerful and important images that you’re having.

If you’re interested in exploring Jung’s ideas further, a good place to start would be a hardcover edition of “Man and His Symbols”. Although there is a paperback edition, it lacks the advantage of size and color illustrations.
To look into Jung’s techniques of dialoguing with inner figures and working with dreams, you could try books by Mary Watkins such as “Invisible Guests”, and “Waking Dreams” as well as Robert Johnson’s “Inner Work”.

“Navaho Symbols of Healing” by Donald Sandner provides a thorough and respectful view of Navaho beliefs while illuminating Jungian techniques that can be used by modern healers to draw on dreams and their healing images.

“The Wisdom of the Snake” by Joseph Henderson and Maud Oakes might be a good place to begin exploring some world mythology on the themes of death, rebirth and resurrection although unfortunately there are only a few North American native stories included.

Robert Hopcke’s “There Are No Accidents” describes meaningful coincidences and how to understand them.

Also, you might even like Jung’s autobiography “Memories, Dreams, Reflections” because it contains many examples of how he interacted with his own dreams and visions in a very productive and fulfilling way.

I hope that these ideas will help in some way as you explore your dreams and visions in the future.

Athanor, you have the ability to see and therefore I will tell you this, These things the Eagle has revealed have all come true except for a few, he showed me the faces of the brothers from afar and he showed me the gate, it was in the heavens and its size was hard to describe...the gate was pouring out darkness...He said that when the time comes the words of men will fall to the ground like Iron and I know that he means that not many will listen. The age of man is reaching an apex and we can only find refuge in the lost way of living..When we live the lives we live today, we live from the mind and not so much with our hearts and spirits..always wanting and needing,,,stress and pre-occupation..these things as told by the Eagle weakens us...allows us to be vulnerable to sickness. The Eagle has told me that mother earth will cleanse itslef with a plague, a sickness that will affect all humans. this plague can only be halted by returning to the old ways but not many will accept these words and fail to listen...I now see the ancestors at different times in different places, coaching me, speaking to me..leaving me things in many places..It has been for me, but to ask and it is given...however my purpose and road to it have not been revealed..I must Eagle dance this year at the Sun Dance to learn more, It is what has been spoken to me and arranged...I am just trying to understand this because only a short time has passed since I thought I was someone else..My name as spoken by the Eagle is Hetah Neah Koko...this name he said will be known by only a few, so I feel it is ok to speak it here to you..I hear a language not spoken for Many thousands of years and can understand it quite well, yet cannot find it anywhere.. in my dreams I am as three people, A young man, a Warrior, and a Old man wearing many feathers, they all speak to me at the same time, yet the Eagle says they are myself..But he also says that I am not like the people at all...He said I was the same as him and that we are not as them..I cannot say for sure what this means...only that we have traveled many times together, at times on wing and at times as a human..he tells me that I must ride the wind. I cannot say what I am, but I can say that i have much to say to people who will listen.

well I came to dreams after having a very strong premonition. I woke up and felt the dream was pointing to something serious happening . I studied the dream and connected it through the symbols to a particular person. That very night she died. I know it sounds a bit corny but she was princess diana of the british royal family. I had grown up with her and the loss of someone so young was felt by everyone. My country, the uk, closed down virtually for two weeks. Jokes were not told.

Nowadays I do study premonitions. But really premonitions lose interest after a bit. You have a dream - it comes true - OK.

I am more interested in ordinary dreams nowadays. The symbolism is fascinating.

      ------------------------
The connection between dreams and the day before the dream is really very strong. Its stronger than you would imagine. Thats because of the way that the mind is built. We store up memories in short term memory blocks. Then at nighttime we work through these and proceed to transfer them and integrate them into the long term memory banks. So always look for a possible explanation from the day before. In fact try to spot intuitions as they develop in your mind. What made you stop and think the previous day? What relationships have you been thinking about? What strong fantasies or paranoia's have been on your mind?
Of course a dream may have a different meaning. Dreams can be premonitions and can link to deep telepathy. But really do not pursue such explanations before you have at least tried some more mundane explanations. A dream may simply link to some simple everyday emotion.

I do think we may get one or two dreams which truly do awaken us. Not sure why? Thats my point mostkly with premonitions and deep spiritual dreams. They can seem to reveal the future but not so it can be changed. They may reveal something that is to happen but yet it merely is a way of showing us that the future is already happened. I remain unsure more than anything

      ------------------------
We often go to the movies or watch TV and can get highly involved in the plot and emotions that the characters go through. Dreams are very much like this. If a dream seems highly emotional then it maybe is capturing the emotions that you feel about some situation in your life. So see how these little movies really captured your emotions from yesterday. Pick out crucial moments from the previous day and see how the emotions and feelings are replayed. Many dreams simply capture the emotions that we feel - many simply capture emotions that are easy to recognise such as happiness, sadness and frustration. When we watch a TV show it may not bear any direct relation to our own real lives but still we can identify with the characters in simple ways. So forget the detailed plot of a dream and just try to get a clue from the dreams simple emotions. Then see what relevance they have to your own life. How do the characters in the dream feel and how are they similar to your own real life?

These pages are especially helpful in showing you how to interpret dreams

      Exclamation Beginning

My dreams began out of nowhere, I never had any connection or thoughts of Native American beliefs. thinking I was in any way connected to Native Americans wasent even a thought, I believed myself to be French-English descent, then Boom, I was being told that I was not who I thought I was. The Key things which are the Eagle who was a Bald Eagle 10 feet tall or better, according to the Native American beliefs is not the usual messenger it is normally the spotted Eagle. The story of me sleeping thru the centuries, the ability to understand many native tongues, to now have abilities that most people would not believe unless they saw them, all of this out of nowhere with no prior thought. and now my life has been changing, meeting new people, learning new truths about my ancestry. I have a hard time believing that this was all pre-thought or manifested from some occurance in my every day life. The Eagle told me that many would say this very thing, he said that he would stay with me from now on to ensure that i would not just simply explain it away. He was very persistant and kept telling me my name. when i tell him of these encounters with people he just thinks it is our societys way because they have lost the ability to hear. I know in my heart what this means, I am seeking those who are going to have knowledge of these dreams and possibly have dreams of the same. I have met elder Medicine Men from amny tribes who have said that they have had dreams of me coming..they have taken me to places that they were told to take me and i have heard and seen amazing things. For example I was led to and ancient place of meeting, this came to an elder during a dream, this place we hiked into, there was snow on the ground and as we walked I noticed no previous traffic in the area, It hadent snowed in a while but there was snow on the ground. When we arrived at the place there were Eagle feathers waiting for me in this place. Everyone who was there was amazed. we started a fire and gave offering of tobacco and began to smoke the Chanupa (pipe) and sing to call in the spirits. Then the most amazing thing happened, the wind changed and i heard horses ride up, I thought they were right behind me, but they were not visible at all. I was then told to enter the area where the light came thru the ceiling and sit with the pipe and wait. I went there and after a while I heard a woman singing a song in the language the Eagle spoke, She was singing about the tragedy that took place here, and about how i was needed to return. everyone in this place heard the song..everyone has been changed by all of this. when I was told by the woman who sang what she wanted me to know i left that area and we sang to send the spirits back. Once again the wind changed and the place fell silent. This is only one of the many things that has happened. If your ideas are correct how did all of this just fall into a mind that never even thought about Native Americans before, and a mind that never heard voices or seen spirits before?

      Hi ezmoto
Its interesting what you say there. That you have met elders who have told you that they were expecting you. Thats sounds a little more along the lines of telepathy. I think then that this is symbolic of some energy which exists between you and them.
I know I normally try to move people away from pyschic explanations as they can be vertroublesome. Telepathy dreams are a little different. They are really difficult to analyse. Yet thats what this seems to be about. Some energy that you have tapped into. The eagle represents nature and a natural more natve american way. Its also powerful and so links to your own inner strength and knowledge that have been awakened. The persistence of the eagle aslo seems to represent the nature of your own awakeniung. Its persistent too .. and its about dealing with people like me who try to put your ideas down.. initially sayiong its not some all powerful force.. just thoughts inside your head. Its like a symbolic versiuon of your journey. I recognise that now.

If people truly knew the meaning of their dreams they would be quite surprised. Many have helped perpetuate the myth that dreams are really deep and meaningful. True some are but the majority of dreams are simply part of our brain functions. They help us clarify everyday issues. These are very important at the time but
are far from being crucial in the overall scheme of things. Freud and others talk of the deeper dreams. But that is only because of their interest in psychology. They also speak of lots of other dreams that are insignificant and just linked to the previous day. But these dreams are interesting in themselves. They too show how the brain works. So simple dreams with meanings like "I need to spend more time on my studies" are important. If we can understand the simple dreams we can apply knowledge gained to solve the more trickier dreams.

Suggestion for another site to submit your dream to

      Hi again,

A reliable site to which you could submit your dream is http://www.mythsdreamssymbols.com/dreamforum.html

You could at first perhaps just submit it without mentioning that you've had other interpretations provided and what they were just to see what their spontaneous response will be. Then following up, it's probable that you will have a very good dialogue with those at the site.

Well I would recommend staying away from from that forum. Both me and carlos both had problems there. There are plenty of other forums .

With experience you can start to understand how dreams work. The basic rule is this - if something big happened the previous day then you can almost guarantee that you will dream about it. So this is an ideal way in which to study how your dreams work. So if you had an argument with a trusted friend the day before then its likely that your dream about a dog biting you it directly linked to this.
My own website contains many such dreams which it is felt are understood. So from this bank of dreams symbolic meanings can be explored. These dream studies have shown that dream symbols have many and varied meanings. They can have a positive and also a negative meaning. The symbols may have several different usage's. In fact its possible to say that dreams use symbols in the way that people use words. Do not think that one symbol has one simple meaning. So when a soldier appears in your dreams try to think how that soldier can in some way connect with your thoughts. Could the soldier represent hardship in the way that soldiers have to endure hardship whilst undergoing warfare. If so think of ways in which your mind would use the word hardship right now. Was the previous day a real struggle? Did someone mention how things have been really hard recently? Try to make any association with that word. But remember that a soldier may represent something other than hardship. Soldiers can represent rules and the need to be disciplined. So again try to see how rules and discipline feature in your current mindset. Has someone been trying to instill into you a set of rules and the need for discipline? If so the dreams meaning may connect to that. If not then try to make some other association. Do the same with all the symbols in the dream. Finally see if you can get various symbolic meanings to fit together in some consistent form. Try various ideas out.

      Exclamation Awaiting

As i said before, prior to this I never had any involvement in Indian Affairs, there was no arguments, nothing out of the ordinary. Then this, now i can navigate and manipulate my dreams, the Eagle has taught me how to do this. I am fully aware that i am dreaming and can usually dream about what ever I want, when I need the Eagles advice I simply ask before bed and he comes..that simple. I think sometimes people try to explain things away that they cannot understand to make themselves feel better somehow. as for me I am awaiting for the right person to read this, when they do they will have a response that has been told to me. I will at that point share more of this journey and how to do various things. I thank all of you for your insight and await more.

      Exclamation New Visions

I have just had a new vision and this is what it was about. I saw Native Americans reclaiming their homeland. It was a very unsual dream and it was very real. The next day I done some checking and sure enough the Lakota tribe of Siuox has just withdrew from the United States, and claims they are no longer U.S. citizens and have said that because of the United States refusal to honor what was in the treaties given to them they are taking the U.S. to court and demanding that the states of Montana, South and North Dakota, Wyoming and Nebraska, be handed over, all occupants of these states are welcome to join. If you Google "Lakota Indian Tribe Secede from Union" you can read for yourself. This is really getting kinda fun. I wonder how this could have already been in my head? Hmmmm

well dreams can reveal the future. It doesn't surprise me that your dream linked in this way to some real event. Often they can be hidden in some deep or not so deep symbolism

      -----------------------------
The father of modern dream interpretation is not Freud or Jung but rather Jon Winson. But he never made a single dream interpretation. Instead he conducted research into the mind and established that certain brainwaves (theta waves) only appear during the night time. During the day we store up all new experiences and feelings in short term memory. Then at night we start to work through what happened the previous day and we integrate these into long term memory blocks. Then finally we clear short term memory blocks ready to start the process again the next day. Its likely that any dreams we have are linked to these brain functions. The weird images and feelings once deciphered capture our own feelings and new insights into the world around us. So the dreams then will often link to specific events from the day before and to new ways in which our world has been reshaped. It may simply link to our paranoias and fantasies. If we are focused on something about to happen in the near future then the dreams may link to that. Each dream captures one specific feeling or thought process.

      Exclamation Understanding

well, I hope not all are real, I just had a weird one about someone in our government getting assasinated. Im not sure if it was a candidate or not, only that it was by an terrorist cell member..lets see if it plays out. I have taken up the out of body traveling and its really cool, I can go anywhere, problem is if you move suddenly you snap back in your body. Other than that you can reach thru walls, fly, listen to people, etc.
