      Recurring dream/ nightmare

I'd like to know what this means.

      "Background"
An "event" or whatever I feel the dream comes from is something that happened at my mom's house a couple months before we moved out.
The "event" was in my room. It was maybe elev at night, I was reading a book for the first time in a while and decided to go to bed when I was finished with the page, since it was getting late and I wanted a rutine, I wasn't particularly tired.
But before I finished the page I heard this scratching from the inside of my closet, the door I barely ever open 'cause it doesn't have much in it. It wasn't really loud or quiet, just regular scratching.
On instinct I thought it was my cat, he loves sneaking into the closet when I open it to sleep on the clothes, he usually scratch or make noise when he wants out. But I realised that I knew for a fact that he was outside, not in my room, and I realised even if I was wrong, he couldn't possibly have gotten into the closet 'cause I hadn't opened it in a couple days, especially the one the scratching came from, the closet doors have a child lock so it's hard to open them, so he couldn't have opened them by himself.
I got so freaked out that instead of going to sleep I got on my laptop and kept myself occupied until I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore. When I woke up that morning to go out of the room, since I was passing the closet I thought I'd just test and see if it was a sound that would be made by scratching on the inside of the closet door, like the wood there would sound like that. So I opened the door and scratched with my long nails a couple times on the inside of the door where it sounded like it came from, and I was even more creeped out, 'cause it sounded exactly like what I heard, which means the sound didn't even come from an animal's claws, they came from a persons fingernails.

      The dream:
The recurring dream is in my room in that house, and I'm about to try to fall asleep. I'm very aware of the thing in my closet (whatever had made the scratching sound) and I'm scared it will come out and hurt me or at least scare the crap out of me. It varys a bit but the outcome is always I'm scared like fuck 'cause of that thing, either scared out of the room, or just scared by it and then I wake up.
In this specific dream I had last night, my bed was put against the door of the closet when I was gonna go to sleep, I freaked 'cause that's not where it usually is, and I didn't wanna sleep that close to where the thing was.
I started moving the bed to stand against the wall on the opposite side of the room, where it usually is, but in the middle of it I heard the click the child lock on the door makes when you open the door and I turned around. The last thing I remember before waking up is the thing, who for whatever reason looks like those girls from asian horror movies with long black haird, is right in front of me choking me or in some other supernatural way trying to kill me, I can't even remember I was so freaked out.
I could feel her, or it's anger, she wanted me dead. I'm so tired of having these dreams.

I was a bit shocked while reading that when you heard the scratching you didn't open the closet to see what was trapped in there. You apparently left it there overnight before even checking to see if there was anything. My thought was "My god - whatever it was could have died in there!"

Deep inside you were probably thinking the same thing - or at least considering the possibility - but you let yourself be ruled by your fear and didn't even investigate. Essentially you abandoned whatever it was - possibly to death. And now you're experiencing guilt about it. You're dreaming that whatever you abandoned in there is haunting you in a malicious form - one taken from familiar horror movies.

I think you felt even more guilty when you thought it might be human nails rather than claws. Suddenly you realized that this kind of fear might one day prevent you from rescuing a trapped child or something when it needs you.

Experiences like this are meant to be lessons. Learn from it - in the future, if you think there's something trapped that you should free, investigate. Be safe about it - I mean you could have called your mom in and opened the door together, one holding a weapon or whatever. But now you understand that such immature fear is going to haunt you if you give in to it again. Next time it could possibly be a real situation, it sounds like nothing actually died this time or you would have smelled it.

Note: I am not a dream expert. I did take a couple classes in sociology and psychology that I did ace. I do also believe in supernatural circumstances, but always start with the logical explanation
      1. It could me a metaphor for something in your life. The only thing the comes to mind right now is that there is a fear that your mind is telling you that are not suppose to face yet or not face. Have you checked to see if there are any similarities between it and someone you know. Maybe you should try asking it some questions. Dreams have a tendency to be informative, but in a more metaphorical sense rather than upfront.
      2. Sometimes dreams are not informative at all. Maybe it is just one of your fears manifesting itself in your dreams. Your subconscious mind could just be imagining the worse possible outcome.
      3. Probably not as likely, especially if it is a newer house. Plus, it is taking the form of a horror movie. So that lessens the impact. If it is supernatural check to see if anyone has died in your place, and the circumstances of that death.

I didn't leave anything just 'cause, I thought rationally at first. If there was a possibility that something, an animal or child could have been there obviously I would have checked. My household only has one pet, my cat that I had seen in the kitchen before I entered my room, and the only people living there are my mom, my 23 year old sister, my 16 year old sister and me. Rationally nothing would have been in there.

No. If you knew my mom you'd know not wake her unless you were being stabbed by an intruder. Dead serious. We don't exactly have that kind of relationship that I'd just call to her and she'd come running concerned, or wondering what I wanted.
And I know things might be different in other countries, but we don't just have weapons of any sort in our houses here, I'm not being offensive, it's just a law here in my country. My family doesn't even own a baseball bat.

And no, this is not a hate rant, I know I can come across as such sometimes, I'm just saying how it is.

Mom used to move around a lot when I was younger, and we've always been kind of haunted. Just little things nothing big, but I think the house might have been pretty old since I think my grandma was talking about some kids her age when she was in school living in that area.

Why do I always forget to Go Advanced? Double post strikes again!!

      EDIT:
Ok,now the other post disappeared- the good one. I was unable to edit the second post, when I tried it showed me a dialogue box saying something weird that I don't remember now. Something with fail in it. But I could edit the first one so I did that. Now I know better - the second one is the one that disappears.

      I'll re-create the post:

Weapon was the wrong word really - I meant a defensive weapon. Something to fend off an animal if it panics and jumps at you. I would go for a sofa cushion or a pot lid to hold as a shield.

And of course, it's uncanny how animals get into all sorts of places where you would swear they couldn't - especially unused closets! They chew through walls, floors, ceilings, whatever they need to do.

We don't have those kinds of animals here. All we have are bears, reindeers, elks and foxes.
