Dream ending with a snake killing a cat

Hey there! I'm brand new here, but lately I've been having lots of bad dreams and I'd like to start hearing other people's opinions on what they might mean. A bit about me, I am a 20 year old female working at a place I enjoy, still living at home for now, and taking college classes online. My greatest concern lately has been about my relationship with my boyfriend. We don't get to see each other very often as we live a long way from each other, and we have been arguing a lot recently. I'm worried about the state of our relationship now, and how that might affect it going forward. A few other current concerns I have are about my relationship with my mother (we have different opinions and tend to clash) and that I've lost inspiration for things I used to be really talented in (drawing, writing, etc.) I have been relying on a good friend of mine for advice and emotional support during this time.
So my most recent dream started out wonderfully. My parents and I had this enormous farm will lots of animals; cats, dogs, chickens, horses, and more. That has always been a thing that I want in my life, to have a farm like that, so I was pretty happy in the dream. A lot of it was just seeing all of the animals interacting and getting along, and then it jumped to my father and I looking at a house. I recognized the house, and said it was where my boyfriend lived, even though the house in the dream looked nothing like his actual house. My dad had been saying that the house belonged to someone else, and I kept telling him that it was my boyfriend's house. So the dream sort of jumped again to me watching a Civil War reenactment that was taking place on our farm, and amidst all the smoke and actors running around, one of the cats on our farm walked past me and went into this really small cement building. There was a snake in there too, and the cat started swatting at it. The snake bit the cat twice and it immediately fell over and started to die. I picked the cat up and was sobbing as I held it, listening to it taking its last breaths. It also seemed as though the cat was sharing memories with me as it died, good ones. I counted fourteen of them before the cat's time ran out, at which point I woke up.
So, any thoughts on what it might mean and how it relates to what I'm going through? Thanks in advance!

      My immediate reactions:

You're at an age where you're becoming an adult - a huge change, In fact the biggest you've ever experienced. You're essentially becoming a new person (or discovering who you are as an adult), no longer a dependent child, and it's a difficult and turbulent change.

Living on a farm with your parents seems to represent a happy idyllic childhood, but you're living with your parents, so that's not an adult life. It's the past I believe.

Seeing your boyfriend's house but realizing its not really his house - could mean you're beginning to realize that you didn't know him as well as you thought, or maybe that your dad sees something in him you don't? Maybe that he's not quite who you thought he was.

Not sure what to make of the civil war reenactment. Maybe just the drama and turmoil of growing up? And realizing now that most of it was sort of silly in comparison to real life, which you're beginning to experience now?

A cat being killed by a snake. Here's what that seems to symbolize to me. A cat is an independent animal - a mammal, which are warm blooded like we are and maybe also a symbol of independence. A snake is a primitive cold-blooded reptile - a very ancient animal with no intelligence and no emotions. They usually represent pure instinct, or very primitive parts of the psyche. So it sounds like the more primitive, maybe fear-driven parts of yourself might be attacking and trying to subsume your warmblooded mammalian aspects - the loving, kind, generous aspects of you?

First understand that death in dreams isn't literal, its symbolic. A part of yourself dying just means that it's sunk into the unconscious - it can be recovered and revived if you go seeking it and do whatever you need to do - figure out what was being represented in the dream and fix that in your life.

It sounds like you might be in danger of making some bad choices - maybe burying your more fully human aspects through fear or some other primitive instinctive drive. Or maybe sacrificing your future independence? Or possibly you've already dine this in the past - since it happened on the farm which represents your childhood with your parents? So it could be referencing some past choices you've made that you might what to seriously rethink.

Another possibility - maybe the snake killing the cat is referencing some time when you let your better, more human aspects get overcome by something cold and snakelike in yourself - like maybe in an argument where you failed to be completely compassionate toward somebody but struck out angrily at them. Maybe it's time to try to make up for that and redress the mistake.

Thank you for your insight! Some of the things you mentioned I can definitely see being relevant to my life, such as suppressing more human aspects about myself in my past. Things are still dramatic and tumultuous at times, but I like to think I handle it better than I used to. It definitely does give me things to think about, though. <3

I'm glad - if I get some part right, or close enough to be helpful in some way, it's a win-win.

The dream is about you. The Farm represents your dreams and aspirations .The civil war represents revisiting struggles of your past. (Reenactments replay past events) Out of the past struggle there are some lies you have accepted (snakes represent lies). Those lies from your past has suppressed your independent expression. I believe any lies we have accepted from the past we can undo and recover with the truth. When you believe what’s true about youself, you’ll be able to walk out your life more fully.

Wow, thank you for your response! I do dwell on the past quite a bit, and sometimes that is a struggle for me. I have more to rhink about now! <3
