      Chewing my teeth

      Hi,

I've been bothered by a certain dream a few times since about a year ago or less.
I dream that I am chewing my teeth, all that I can, and it really really hurts. It's seems like an addiction, because I cant stop, it's like a reflex. It feels like my jaws are going to break.
Anyhow, I wake up without feeling nothing.. It's just a dream.

Can someone have a clue to why this is happening, or how to stop it? Gaah it's irritating.

      /Marcus

Edit: Now I notice this is about lucid dreams.. Hm.. My mistake, but can someone answer any of my questions?

I have moved this to the Dream Interpretation section.

      Welcome, Marcus!

I'm afraid I'm no good with dream interpretation, but I'm sure someone else will jump in here with an opinion or two.

But I hope that discovering DreamViews will spark an interest in lucid dreaming, and that you'll pursue it and succeed!

Teeth grinding/breaking is a really common dream. That is my most common recurring dream. It's nothing to worry about. But if you wake up with pain or a sore jaw go to a dentist because you are probably grinding your teeth at night.
I've gotten used to this and it has become a useful dream sign for me. i've had a couple lucid dreams that started by me loosing my teeth.
Ugh...unfortunately it doesn't always work. I had one dream where my entire upper palette just came out and I kept trying to put it back in place. Just the memory made me gag for days... >_<

I have heard that dreams that have to do with your teeth have some relation to the fact that you realize (or think) that you're getting older. I've had similar dreams about loosing a tooth or teeth. I'm 36.

I'm 21, but that is quite possible because I lack the mental filter most people have. I live every day with the realization that I'm growing ever closer to loosing everyone I care about, and closer to my own death.

I have read a handful of interpretations about teeth falling out or weird things happening with them hinting at anxiety or what not. I think it is safe to say that these teeth dreams mean nothing and the only reason you have them is because just before you went to bed you brushed your teeth. Therefore, teeth are on the mind before you fall asleep and your brain makes weird things happen to them like falling out or chewing on them.

You know, our teeth are very important for us. And you chew them.

Maybe it could mean you're using (or consuming or whatever) important things in your life but you could easily end up losing them.

But I don't interpret dreams so...

Another very common dream sign is having your teeth fall out—this is often a result of excessive worrying.[/b]
That is from the Dream FAQ. Even though your teeth arent falling out, I think it is kind of similar.

To relate to teeth dreams, one needs to give them their proper meaning, one based on their function or purpose. As we know, teeth allow us to chew food, that is, to process new food for thought that comes our way in order to be able to incorporate the new information into our existing body of knowledge - or in other words digest and understand it. What allows us to do this is our intelligence. Thus teeth would represent our intelligence.

"Chewing my teeth" can thus suggest chewing on, reflecting on, or mulling over the subject of your own intelligence. The dream could imply that you have made your intelligence a subject of thought (as if it were food to chew on). When doing this, you appear to be giving yourself only but emotional pain. (as it really hurts)

From the pressure you are putting on your teeth, we could also see this act simply as teeth grinding or gnashing. In Scripture this act is referred to in Matthew 8:12 where we find "weeping and gnashing of teeth". From this we can see the idea of teeth grinding as suggesting mulling over any sorrows or woes you might have on your mind - but excessively, as you are doing this to the point that you cause yourself emotional pain. You may be putting too much pressure on your intelligence where some woes are concerned.

I started having that dream about six months ago, when I got a deep cut on my finger. My finger was in brace, rendering my right hand unuseable. Meaning I couldn't A) make a fist, and B) floss. I was raised in the martial arts, so not being able to make a fist is a very substantial thing to me. Kind of a dropped your weapon in battle feeling... I'm also a teeth-nazi. I looked it up somewhere on the net, and it said it was because my subconcious thought my dental hygiene was lacking...
