      Hats and a wake

Waking life - earlier in the week at work, something went wrong a minor stuff up and I didn't know as I had been ill. My colleague was bothered by this and pointed it out to me in the end we sorted it out. Also, the same colleague's sister passed away, she had been diagnosed with cancer.

In my dream, I took a black hat to my colleague, it was kind of expected. Something happened that made me feel sad or a mixed message, my colleague ended up wearing a white hat with a black stripe and he was pleased with it. I felt as though the hat I took was not appropriate or I had done something wrong, it may have been a bit big. I could see the one had I had taken sitting there on the table. There were other people in the same room. In the end, it didn't matter and everything and everyone seemed happy. It was a very clear dream but also a bit strange.

My understanding is that hats resemble success and luck if you dream of wearing it yourself.

I welcome your thoughts or info you might like to add. Im unsure if the dream had something to do with the incident or whether something else may come of it.

Chances are, the dream DID have something to do with the incident.

As for dreams predicting luck, or things coming true from dreams... you'll have to excuse me, but I think that's just nonsense... dreams can't predict the future. I'm a sceptic and an atheist, though, so chances are you have your own opinions, and that's okay I guess.

BUT... I DO think this dream had something to do with the incident. Here's what:

In my dream, I took a black hat to my colleague, it was kind of expected. Something happened that made me feel sad[/b]
You take a black hat to your colleague... this indicates you sympathise with, feel sad about or for, your collegue's loss. That you say it was expected, is interesting. Perhaps you feel obligated to feel sad?

or a mixed message, my colleague ended up wearing a white hat with a black stripe and he was pleased with it. I felt as though the hat I took was not appropriate or I had done something wrong, it may have been a bit big.[/b]
This is INTERESTING. Your collegue wearing a white hat with a black stripe, I think, indicates that your colleague, though he/she has already dealt with the loss or expected it, still does have a taint of mourning. The hat is mostly white, aka he/she is mostly okay and at peace with the loss, but the black streak is the taint of grief, etc, that is still present.

I have a lot of personal experience with people I know dealing with cancer, and dying of cancer. From what I have experienced, death from cancer is something that is often forseen for a long time after being diagnosed, and so by the time death actually happens, for the relatives there is often a sense of relief coupled with that of grief... this isn't sick, or twistred, it's just complex.

Chances are, I think your dream, aka your subconscious, is perhaps trying to tell you that though you are expressing sorrow and sympathy for your collegue's loss, and feel obligated to do so, you also recognise that your colleague has already perhaps come to terms with, and dealing with, that loss, having forseen it for a fair while.

The hat being too big and too black perhaps indicates you feel that perhaps all-out grief and mourning isn't something your colleague is going through, right now... thus, perhaps your expressions of sympathy and mourning for your colleague's loss have been a bit too much... a bit unnecessary...

. I could see the one had I had taken sitting there on the table. There were other people in the same room. In the end, it didn't matter and everything and everyone seemed happy. It was a very clear dream but also a bit strange. [/b]
You find it strange to see how other people are dealing with this death... you expect all-out mourning, but are suprised to find something more complex... a mixture of grief, mourning, relief, affinity with the dead, and even a bit of happiness...

Death is something different people deal with in different ways... I think your dream is all about this...

Of course, as always, I COULD be wrong.

I hope I HAVE been of some help, though, and would love to hear any comments or feedback you have for this interpretation...

Thanks Blue Meanie. I knew his sister was ill with cancer for a long time and you are right, sometimes people are relieved in a way that their loved one's suffering is over. You may be aware, especially in law firms, people can be quite conservative and I wasn't sure how to approach / deal with my colleague as he is quite senior. I guess the dream was more of a build up of all little things that had occurred and anxiety I had about not knowing how to approach him about his sister. I didn't make a fuss, stayed back late, did the work to ease the load.
