      This is interesting, actually.

My guess is, that you've seen this black cat in a couple of dreams by coincidence. From then on, you've come to associate this black cat with your dreams, both subconsciously AND consciously. So... basically, you see this black cat, because you THINK you will see this black cat in your dreams, or because you expect to.

      A couple of things, though:
      1) What is this black cat usually doing?
      2) Have you ever had a black cat in real life, or has a friend, etc?

The cat just sits there. his tail moves up and down. ive never met a black cat in real life. i never expect him in my dreams. he just stairs at me... as if he were waiting for me to do something, or waiting to make a move. whenever run towards him i wake up. whenever i ignore him, i wake up. as if he knew i saw him.

He's seen the cat by coincidence? He's seem the cat by coincidence? That seems a little strange. I don't have a stray black cat wandering around in my subconscious that I know of.

Total shot in the dark: you don't have one of those cat clocks at home that wags its tail and moves its eyes, do you?

Yeah, I know it sounds strange, but, hey, that's how dream signs work.

Roxas, this black cat is obviously a dream sign, as you see it in so many of your dreams. It is my belief that this is how dream signs occur: they work sort of like OCD habits are formed. It happens once, and it happens again, etc, simply because it happened the first time, and since it first happened, you associate it with dreams, even if only at a subconscious level.

For instance, in a few dreams, I happened to be in university tutorials for some reason. Since those first few dreams, I tghen IDENTIFIED being in university tutorials as a dreamsign. Since then, I've had many more dreams where I've been in university tutorials, far more than I had originally. This is because, in my opinion, I subconsciously expect to be in university tutorials in my dreams. In Roxas' case, because he's seen this black cat in a few dreams, at some subconscious level, he may similarly expect to see it in future dreams, and therefore, he does.

Dreamsigns are sort of self-perpetuating like that...

Also, Roxas, if you want to know what WILD and MILd, etc, are, and how to get them, a great place to start is the Tutorials section of the forum. That's where I first started when I came here. There's a WEALTH of informaion in there. I'd start with the "Acronym List", and work from there.

Huh... you know, actually, even though I think this cat is just a dream sign, even so, it might provide a fun opportunity to work towards.

Maybe if you become lucid in a dream, you can ask this cat who he is, and why he's in your dreams? This might be kind of fun, actually. I never have recurring dream characters, so I'm kind of jealous. I'd love to have a black cat follow me around in my dreams.

But yeah... that might be something fun to work towards, a goal, sorta: learn to have LD's so that you can ask the Black Cat questions... sorta like a dream guide...

The black cat is you, or at least your intuition. By sitting you are in indecision, and you are not thinking or acting with this part of you.

Interesting, it's possible that just reporting and talking about your dreams may have helped you make progess (or else it's a coincidence.) Keeping a diary has helped me organize and structure my emotions too.
One possibility is that this cat represents sleep itself, possibly as a mystery. It just blinked, as if you slept and awakened. Whenever this cat appears you are soon to awaken. Perhaps you have misplaced feelings about sleep itself, and mystery drives you to wake up.

Why don't you try a little Gestalt? When you're awake, trying to figure out this dream, pretend that the black cat is there. Ask the black cat questions. Then, aloud, answer the questions with whatever pops into your mind. Why are you here? Who are you? Do you have a name? What do you do when I'm not dreaming? Are you hungry? Are you tired? Do you have a home? Cat, are you concerned about something? This is you asking yourself these questions or whatever you think of. Then, you answering, off the top of yor head, as if YOU are the cat. Eventually, if not right away, you'll probably hit on a key, slap your forehead and say, "That's what the cat is?" Or you might not have this moment of reckoning. Sometimes, it like a charm for me. Sometimes, I just hit a dead end, but it's worth a shot.

As a for exam dreams, it's not OCD and anticipating encountering the symbol again, from my point of view. Exam dreams, I guess that is what you are referring to, are really common, for just about everyone who has been to school. I have them all the time still. For me, they are usually about being under stress or pressure and feeling that I have not prepared well enough for whatever thing is testing me in my life.

I am a firm believer that dreams are never nonsense; never just happenstance. The reason is not because I have read this or been told this. The reason is that every dream that I have had that I couldn't figure out and so said, "This is proof that not all dreams have meaning." Well, they always did. Cats don't randomly appear. And recurring dream symbols are about recurring events in our life; the way we deal with them; events that seem similar; how we feel about them and how we act.
That's just my experience. If you are really dreaming about a cat, the cat is a significant symbol about some aspect of your life.

I hope you figure it out, because I'm pretty sure I never will.
