      learning to swim

Hello everyone, I'm fairly new at this. My name is Aurora. I rarely consciously try to recall my dreams, but every once in a while one will stick out and require me to research it. I had a dream last night about learning to swim. A little background: I have never been taught how to swim. I am able to tread water and swim well enough on my back, but I've never felt comfortable swimming with my face in the water. It's always given me a slightly panicky feeling. My ex-fiancee and I broke up a little over a year ago, in Dec. 2004. It was an amicable break-up, and we are still dear friends and keep in touch. If his circumstances were different I'm sure we'd still be together. In my dream he was teaching me to swim face-down, in either a lake or a river. I didn't notice many specific details about the water (ie: murkiness or color), however, there we slight ripples or currents. We were not far from the bank, but he was in about waist deep. The day was warm, if a little cloudy. I felt completely at ease and enjoyed the way he was touching my stomach and back as he taught me. His hands were under me in the way one would help a small child float in a pool. His touch conveyed strong feelings of strength and love. It was a lovely dream, but very intiguing. Thanks in advance for your ideas!!

Welcome to the forum, Aurora! I've moved this thread to the Dream Interpretation forum for you. I'm no good at interpreting dreams, so hopefully you'll get some more appropriate responses here. Good luck!

My first though when I read your title "Learning to Swim" was that this could probably be a sexual dream. After reading the dream, that's what I think too. Sorry you and this guy broke up!!

      Water means emotion.

Learning to swim means learning to deal with your emotions. Your breakup with your boyfriend is affecting you. In the dream, you are trying to resolve this emotional issue.

      All the best.
