Hello can someone help me explain my dream?

Hello everyone! Im new and my name is kara. Im a sophmore in high school and have had many dreams that I'm just dying to share. Here is my most important one to me right now:
I have a best friend who I've known for a long time. I feal like she is my sister i love her so dearly. However I keep having this dream that we are in school and since high schools are very strict on wierd people coming in with no id, an announcement comes on over the intercom saying the school is being locked down. As soon as we hear that this guy walks in our room with a gun. He singles my friend out and sice shes not afraid to let people know what she thinks, she says something smart aleck to him. Then in slow mo. he swings the gun her way. I step in front of her and he shoots me. As I fall to the ground everybody else's face fades away except for hers. She cries very hard and tells me about how she hasnt been that good of a friend and that she is sorry. The whole time however all i can think about is how glad I am that she didnt get hit. .......Now jsut the other day something kind of similar happened. I flipped my 3 wheeler and the first thing that went threw my mind was o god, shes on the back. As we flipped I pulled the 3 wheller up and it landed on my chest. I cried after it was all done and over and she just thought it was because I was in pain, but I told her it was because if she had died it would have been all my fault. WHY AM I SO ATTACHED TO HER?! please give me some feedback! thank you!

Friendship is a powerful thing. It can be every bit as powerful as true love, without the sexual attraction. (or even with, depending.) I don't think there is anyone outside of your relationship with her that can tell you why it is that you're so attached to her, but I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. Given certain circumstances, I would seriously consider dying for my best friend, so I can definitely see where you're coming from. Dreams have a way of amplifying your feelings and twisting them into very intense situations. These situations, I think, often play a large role on how you evaluate your relationship with whoever's involved. That fact that, even in a non-lucid dream, you're willing to throw yourself in front of a bullet for your friend signifies a lot about how much you cherish your friendship with her. It may take that emotion and twist it to the extreme, but the premise is still there: You care for her because she's your best friend, and so far, from what I've experienced, that's one of the most powerful bonds there is.

I totally agree with Oneironaut.

One thing to look at as you're somewhat concerned is whether or not your friend feels similarly attached. Is the bond one-way or two-way? Does she know how attached you are and use that attachment for her own advancement in anyway? Do you feel used or icky in any way after dealing with her? If not, you prolly just love your friend and that's cool. If yes, you may want to deal with the icky feelings as well as the love.

I understand valuing and cherishing close friends. You are very protective of her though and seem to love yourself so much less. The dream seems to be telling you that the relationship is not balanced.

School is a place where you learn things. There's a lesson here. I think.

There is a threat. You go on lock-down. The threat is a man with a gun. A gun can be a sexual image. The man comes between you and your friend in the dream, then you step in front of her and in between them. Is there a boyfriend or other male figure involved?

Your friend is singled out, but she choses to verbally antagonize him which causes the situation to esclate. Yet, you take the fall. Are you not allowing her to take the consequences for her own judgment and actions--possibly?

Every face fades except hers. Are you blocking other possible friendships? Excluding others because of your devotion to her? You're young. You say you've known her for a long time, but people do change especially when they are just growing up. I am just taking a guess here, kiddo, do you think you would you rather die than have the friendship die or evolve as it is bound to with time? Are you thinking "friend's for life" and then, seeing, perhaps, that the situation is changing?

You have a terrific emotional investment in this friendship.
