      Bitten by a Snake

Hello everyone. I found this site while looking at howstuffworks.com and I was intreigued that you have an area for Dream Interpretation. I don't know where I stand on interpretation, but I was wondering what you might make of this dream.

Well, I was at home and I came across this snake that was probably about two and a half feet long and it looked like a snake that I had seen recently outside of my home when I was awake. I picked it up because I am not afraid of snakes. Despite the caution with which I held it, it still managed to bite me on my left thumb. It did not really hurt, which I found interesting.

Then I, in a sense, woke up, though I was not awake. I looked at my hands and there was a bite mark on my hands, but as if one fang had pierced each thumb. Oh, before this "waking up" there was this same appearance, but the wound was slightly bleeding on my right thumb, though very little. After "waking up," when I looked there were still marks, but they were not bleeding. I went to tell someone, but I eventually sort of repeated part of the dream. I do not remember how I came to be holding the snake again, but it bit me a second time because somehow I did not have it in a good grip.

I pulled the snake's head off of my finger and was eventually able to hold it so it would not bite me. Then I took it outside and released it.

      What are your thoughts?

Welcome to the website! Hope we can help.

      Snake: distrust
Thumb: power and ability to get a grip on things
      False awakening: new awareness
      Left: feminine, Right: masculine

It sounds like you got snookered by someone, despite your origonal caution, understood this, went to discuss it, and ended up having it happen again.
That's a vague description so I won't speculate on the specifics. And that's all I have.

About 20 years ago this Visionary had given me a 'reading' in which she told me that a Snake biting my left thumb would be a prelude to my Enlightened Realization.

Practically speaking, in terms of Yoga, of course, the Thumbs are the terminating points of the Central Power Circuits of the Kundalini Energy. I have found that if one 'twiddles one's thumbs' for a minute or two before meditation, then the Kundalini will automatically collect to Center and rise up the spine to the head. Remember to stop the twiddling after a few minutes, as the energy will not rise while it is being thus awakened, but after it is awakened, and then left in Peace, it will arise.

The Snake has been interpreted by the Primitive Communitities to be a Symbol of Immortality -- the Snake sheading its skin was seen as a dying and a rebirth. I have had dreams of a Black Red Orange Yellow Snake transforming into a Goddess that wore a similar colored sari of silk. That would identify the Snake with the Creative Feminine Energy.

Those are both interesting views. I still don't know quite what to make if it, but thank you for your responses.

SNAKES : Snakes are in some ways quite difficult but in other ways rather easy symbols., They are difficult because they can refer to lots of things such as an awkward sexual encounter, a person you do not get on with, a person who is deceitful, and a fear that some bad thing may happen very quickly. But all these things can be reduced to some simple questions - what is the biggest problem in your life right now? What do you fear in the day to come? What difficult relationship is causing you problems?

KEY WORDS(Try to spot these quotes in your own feelings - especially think of the day before) :
      - "I do not want to be drawn into that dispute"
      - "she tries to twist everything I say"
      - "I feel she could die at any moment "
      - "I am terrified - it could happen at any moment"
      - "Its such a difficult relationship"
      -"I was singled out"
      - "she snaps at me"
      - "he complained"
      - "I just cannot deal with that"
      - "You ought to be wary of him"
      - "I do not like being in that atmosphere"
      - "it could have been a phallic symbol"

well dreams can be caused by many things. most relate to new feelings forming in your mind. But its interesting that you mention that this snake was seen outside your own house. perhaps it was a dress reheasal for dealing with the snake if you came into contact with it.

Have you been thinking about how to handle the snake if you came face to face with it?
