recurring school theme

I am having an awful lot of dreams about schools, and have had for years I think. The last one I had was of a school that you might imagine is out of a Harry Potter film, not as ornate, more like a georgian/victorian school with grass lawns.

In the dreams I am never very part of them, more a spectator. In this most recent one I really just drift around, interacting occassionally. I do remember not feeling very welcome by the other students, but it didn't bother me and I ignored it. Anyone in authority for the most part ignored me. However I remember speaking to one teacher who said something like this wasn't the right place for me.

I do remember eating something from a table that tasted horrible, so I had to spit it out.

The most interesting bit of the dream was that I became semi lucid - as I frequently do these days, due to training - in the middle of the dream. I had wandered outside to a grassy area and I saw a girl sitting on a large trunk, with a ring in her nose. I went over to talk to her, partly because I thought her cute, but also because I had the idea to ask her questions about myself and see what the answers were like.

When I get to her she asks me if I have come over because of her nose ring and points at it. I reply that I have, and that I find it quite cute. She laughs. I then ask here where I am, to which she replies 'Nowhere'. I go on to talk to her but I can't remember the rest, I think it is about myself.


I find it interesting that I have so many dreams about schools. They are frequently themeatically the same, but with different layouts. Sometimes its my old highschool, but recently it has been the harrypotter esque school I described earlier. Can anyone shed any light?

School is typically synonymous with growing up, maturing. Having repeated dreams of school means your dream mind is telling you that you have not done so.

my unconscious must be quite mean then, because I've just finished uni, am about to move to a new house and have just begun a new full time job, so either it means something else or I am incredibly hard on myself ;)

It is odd that your dreams have taken you to a fictitious school. What of your own schools? And then it is worrisome that you are not studying, or even that you do not have anxieties about not studying. A common enough dream is to find one's self close to Finals without recalling ever having attended Classes or read the material, and one finds one's self panicking over the prospect of flunking out disasterously. But you are just a spectator.

This seems to be Dreaming for Beginners. You really need to become more involved in your own dreams. You must become a Player.

Now it was positive that you encountered a Goddess Oracle Character. Such Characters typically point the way, though often cryptically. Telling you that you were "nowhere" is at once cryptic and yet very direct. As far as your own dreams go, you have not yet even begun to register as a serious Persona.

Unless you begin to be an actor in your own dreams.... in your own life.... well, your entire life will pass you by while you passively drift.

Harry potter may actually link to your attempts to control your dreams. He symbolises the magical control and power over the supernatural .. maybe the feelings inside the dream capture the following thoughts within you... "I have tried controlling my dreams. But actually I am not sure if this is for me"

Funny, I never thought of the girl as an oracle figure but it does make sense (or perhaps just sounds satisfying to my curiosity).

As a person I don't think I would ever have anxiety dreams, I've never suffered from them or nightmares.

It's very true that for most of my dream I am a spectator. These dreams are semi lucid, but I have an awareness that if I try to take too much control of the dream that it will effectively crack it like an egg, and I will wake. I can physically feel the tension when I try to exert control of some kind. When I began to talk to the girl (which was a conscious choice) I could feel everything begin to fold in, so I brought my hands up and focused on their backs (which I can remember in fabulous detail!) and the girl changed into a boy. I spoke to him for a short time (I don't know what of) and then I woke up.

Funnily the more I write about this dream, the more I remember. I had recently been researching the various meanings that dreaming about school can have, and I believe my questioning of my location towards the girl was an attempt to link the school to a given part of my mind. e.g. I was trying to find out if it represented my fears, or my intellect. etc. But that was why I asked where i was.

I have in the past had a series of dreams about my old schools. Again they didn't involve any kind of involvement in school work, rather an ambling around school grounds. Very much the spectator.

I would like to take an more active part in my dreams, I'm not interesting in wresting control, more interested in exploring the potential meanings of certain tropes and symbols. I guess patience is in order!
