      Recurring Dreams of Darkness

For the past few days, I have been having recurring dreams that involve darkness. For example, the first day these started, I was in this camp ground type place (I went somewhere similar a year ago for a band trip and stayed a week there). I went into a building to sleep, and when I woke up, there was a bear & a werewolf at my door. I ran outside to get on the bus to go back home, but all of a sudden it got dark, and the bus drove off without me. For the rest of the dream, I was running around in darkness trying to find a vehicle to get back home, when eventually the bear caught me and I woke up before I could get eaten. The dream was much more detailed, but I just wanted to show you the main part. It was very vivid, and very real-feeling, as well.

And then the day after that, I was walking around in the city, broad daylight and everything. I stand at the corner of an intersection to wait for the pedestrian light thing on the other side to say I could go, but then all of a sudden it got pitch black, and I couldn't cross the road, because I couldn't see anything at all. I woke up when a little tiny car came out of nowhere and started driving at me.

And last night I had another one. I was at a football game with some friends, but it was a game during the day. And all of a sudden, my band director runs in looking frantic, and tells me I have to play. So, I run to the bandroom (which is unusually far away), and pull out a French horn, and then I run back to the football field (which is very close all of a sudden). I start to play, and the rest of the band appears around me, and I'm playing the trumpet all of a sudden. Then chairs appear, and we all sit down like it's a concert, but we're still playing the marching music, and we appear in a school gym. It gets pitch black, and we stop playing. I get up to walk out, and I can only see what's reflected off my trumpet - I can't remember if it was gold or silver, though. I walk into various people and ask them what happened, but they look at me like nothing happened at all, and it was quite normal to become pitch black in the middle of the day. So, I'm walking around the gym, barely able to see anything, and I walk into a close friend of mine, I ask her what happened, and she just turns around and walks away into the darkness. I woke up after that.

Does anyone have any idea what these could mean? I know they don't really sound that bad (except for the first one), but when I wake up, I always have this weird feeling of fear, and I feel like I just got done sprinting between here and the other side of the country.

They could mean that you're overwhelmed by an issue in your life. The bear attacking, and all the misfortunate events. How does your waking life relate to this? As for the darkness, I honestly wouldn't know. Yet you can see what's reflected off the trumpet, right? Perhaps it wasn't dark at all, if the trumpet showed the world to you.

      Dear Leia,

Interesting motif. Your Dream Mind is definitely trying to tell you something. Darkness. Evil or malevolent creatures. Abandonment by friends. Being a Member of the School Marching Band. It is all quite bad.

I would intuitively think that you need to bring more light into your Life and Dreams, but the exact steps you need to take are a mystery. But since your Dreams have posed the Problem, maybe your dreams can help give you some positive direction. Perhaps you should set up a schedule of Suggestion -- 5 or 6 or 7 times a day suggest to your Dream Mind that it point to some positive actions you could take in order to address this problem of chronic darkness. If successful, in a couple of weeks (it takes the Dream Mind a while to cook up a good responsive Dream) you will have a dream with a Wise Old Man Archetype, or perhaps even a Goddess Oracle Archetype with some cryptic message (the Wise Old Men are typically more clear and understandable then the Goddess Oracles, though the Goddess Oracles are from a Higher Spiritual Level).

But, until you get some message, look in your dreams for some action or choice that you have previously been ignoring. Dreams are not often so much about 'meaning' as they are about choice and response. Perhaps you are falling into darkness because you are making some wrong choices earlier in the dreams. Keep an eye on that possibility.

Did you know bears don't eat people?

This all sounds like you thought you knew it all, but found out you know nothing.

MelodicRipple: I can't really think of any truly misfortunate events happening... just the usual stuff; Windows crashing in the middle of something important, not remembering what I did with my shoes and then finding them right in front of my face 10 minutes later, heh... but I can't imagine how that would relate to darkness/bear attacking/etc.

Inspirer: That does bring up some thought. I did know that bears don't eat people, but I guess my dream self didn't. Makes sense, a lot of my dreams are illogical, but few to this degree.

Leo Volont: I don't know about making wrong choices earlier in any dreams, but I do recall talking with someone last Saturday at the mall about all the wrong choices people make sometimes in real life, if that would mean to my subconcious.
I will keep in mind the 'schedule of suggestion' you proposed; I'll try that.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys & MelodicRipple

But bears do kill. certain species of Bear, the Grizzly and the Kodiac and I believe the Polar Bears, will kill human beings, seeing them as challenging for their territory. Being Omnivores I would wonder that they would waste an opportunity for a feeding by not eating any defeated transgressors. Perhaps the sense of mortal combat upsets its digestion. I know it would mine. After killing to defend my territory I can hardly sleep or eat well for a week.
