Weird dream last night, very vivid and such. It demands interpretation:

      (copied from my DJ)

It all started at my grandmothers house, me and my family were staying there for the night. I had just awoken and decided to go into one of the dark rooms of her house (I heard something being knocked over)

I walked into the room taken aback by the complete pitch black darkness. Soon after staring into the doorway listening to the noises for about 10 seconds I decided to get a friend (I've never met him in real life but I knew him in the dream). My friend walked into the room first and flipped on his tiny flashlight, suddenly all the noises stopped. He said something like: "Are you sure you heard something in -sentence stops short and he freezes up-" I quickly turn and stare at what he's shining his light at when suddenly thousands of rats jump in a perfectly straight line towards his head. The dream cuts into a narrative type thing.

      narrative:
"Recently an outbreak of man-eating rodents has begun to plague the city, (pictures begin to show of dead people) the rodents only way of reproducing is to enter a hosts body and slowly feed on its flesh while laying eggs in the process" -switches to a slide of a dead guy with a dead rat sitting beside his dead ass)- "The rats can come in at any opening and death usually occurs within a day"

      Back to me:
The scene suddenly switched back to the graphic scene that was unfolding in-front of me, The rats were in a straight line flying into his mouth. his stomach began to expand wider and wider, and just as it looked like he was going to explode the rats stopped, they had all gotten in. He turned and looked at me in dread just before falling over onto the floor. I ran for my life.
I entered The room my family was staying in and quickly told them the story that had just unfolded, We had to get out of that house, and we had to do it quickly.
We all went into an all out sprint, while running we witnessed 2 more infections as rats shot into other peoples mouths. Suddenly the scene changed to a massive church type place where we were mourning for the dead.

      Church:
It was a bleak scene, but luckily my entire family had made it out alive, I had a small stomach ache but I didnt really mind it with all the death that was around me.
The priest spoke some not so comforting words: "Rejoice that we've made it this far my friends, but do not expect to live much longer. The infections are spreading. We'll be lucky to live another week." We already knew this, so it really had no affect on anyone. I decided to go outside and enjoy nature while I could. My brother followed.

      Nature:
While walking through a grove of trees my brother decided to drop a bomb on me, he said: "I don't think I'll live another day, Brian" me: "What do you mean? You don't look fat like all the other infected I've seen" him: "I only have 2 inside of me, I've felt them moving around since that day at grandmas, I think they got me in my sleep." The atmosphere became very grim, before he told me this I had thought that maybe we could make it off this island as a family, but now it was becoming more apparent that this was all just false hope. We were going to die here, and there was nothing we could do about it.
My brother decided that he wanted to play a game (He's 17 and I'm 16, but he wanted to relive old times) So we played hide and go seek, It took our minds off of the fate that awaited us for a little while but something happened to me that was... discomforting. While playing the game I had accidentally walked into a tree, it hit me on the leg where it wouldn't normally hurt whatsoever, but I suddenly got a massive amount of pain like something inside of me, had begun to scratch and bite in anger. This is when I realized my "stomache ache" was actually a lone rat, feeding inside of me.
I decided I wouldn't tell anyone about this, I still had at least 3 days. (it was an infant)
My family decided to go to the clothing store and buy my dying brother some clothes for one last meal at a restaurant.

      Store:
My brother was trying on some clothes when I said to myself: "Hey wait, this isn't happening, I'm dreaming " I decided that this dream was good enough to not interrupt it with lucidity. So I let it go on, ready to wake up whenever I felt it was too much to bear.
My brother didnt look well. He was pale faced and walking very slowly, death was definitely upon him, I wont say I was being a hard-ass and just watching emotionless either, this was a very moving dream. my brother was dying right in-front of me, I was slowly dying, My entire family had given up hope of getting out of the hellish fate that lie before them.
I continued to watch as my brother picked out clothes.

      Restaurant:
We arrived at the restaurant without saying a word. My bro looked like he was waiting to sit down so he could just die, and my parents were crying (even my dad )
We finally got inside, my stomach was pulsing, my head hurt, and I was struggling to keep it together so my brother could die in peace. Just before we got to the table I looked over at my brother and he looked at me, he nodded as if to say "goodbye" and before I could say anything he fell to the ground, dead.

Still keeping in the back of my mind that I could leave if things got to bad, I woke myself up.
That was a pretty nice feeling.

      _+_+_+_+__++__++_+_+_+_+__++_

I would like to point out that I'm not very close to my brother.

Have you seen any zombie movies or read any history about the plagues? Or does it seem completely original and random?

Just wanted more info first as dreams like this are so personal and usually set off by recent events. Oh, I was also wondering about your grandmother's health - good or bad?

well the main reason I posted this was because of its originality.
I haven't seen any scary movies, or rats, or anything for like 3 months (I never watch scary movies due to my lucid dreams) I really don't know where this came from

My grandmother's fine, just a little old

I'm thinking that all the actual things in the dream (my brother, family, rats etc) were very symbolic, rather than actually representing their real life counterparts

The reason I ask about her health is becuase it prety much starts at your grandmother's house. Someone who is in the later stage of life. What really struck me about the rats and diseased theme is your sense throughout the dream that it was unavaoidable. Like we should all just enjoy life now becuase death comes for all of us. Your brother is difficult because I don't know what kind of personal qualities he represents in your eyes. Maybe it is just the sense that this death can happen to anyone - even someone your age, young and healthy.

I know it sounds simplistic for such and epic dream but I really think it is your subconsious grappling the idea that all life comes and goes.

      Dear Billybob,

Some dreams are very literal. Rats, rats, rats. Your family is surrounded by and full of rats... deadly rats.

Even you, but you try to keep it a secret.

Now, to get rid of the rats depends upon exactly what these rats are. Are these rats self-inflicted dysfunctional behaviors? Well, what do your neighbors say? You would know if you and your family were dysfunctional, wouldn't you? People are only discrete to a point, but once in awhile a drunk at a Wedding or a Family Picnic will out with the Truth.

Or your family may have some environmental hazard to consider.

Or your family has a congenital predisposition to stomach cancer or something.

It is interesting, the historical precedent here. In the 14th Century virtually the entire world was overrun first with rats, and then with the Rat Disease, the Plague. A friendlier attitude toward domestic cats may have mitigated the severity of this Plague of Rats, but unfortunately too many societies thought of cats as evil, without first contemplating just how much worse than cats rats were.

If you are any good with this Lucid Dreaming, maybe it would help by summoning a great deal of Cat Energy to counteract all this Rat Business you have going on.
