I've been thinking, after reading a bunch of "Dream Interpretation" books -
Do you guys think that good ol' Freud was right, and signs in people's dreams are generally the same,
Or do you think we make up our own personal meanings to our dreams, or that they're uninterpretable all together?
I think it's personal - a brain's imagination works differently than anyone else's.
A dream about a bee can symbolize hope for one person and total pain for another.

I feel honored to be the first to vote, aside of course from, his majesty Armeggedon heaven (Bows head), Of course dreams have meanings, those who say no, I feel are ignorant and certainly have no hope of lucid dreaming. Perhaps the location you find yourself in ha no meaning or perhaps ist does, but the spontaneous changing of events in your dreams probably reflects your subconciou thought. I know I dream alot about girls, bad past experiences, school worries and people, and they manifest themselves in my dreams in different ways, but when i wake i defientely see there is meaning in my dreams.
there may be some generic dream signs like falling, or chasing, but i think beyond that, everyone must decide for themselves since only they know what they are thinknig and what it might mean.
Freudy boidy, I Disagree!

well when you get down to it all this convo gets down to his psychology... either you believe in Freud which is personal interpretation by the way.... the only difference is the freud says that our deepest desires and impules come out in our dreams (which would explain your dream with your friend :content: ) or do you believe in Jung (prenounced Young) who believed that there is a set guidelines and archtypes of dream signs that mean the same thing for everything. i tend to lean towards freuds theory... mostly because a Jungian thinks that a cigar means penis..

If dreams have meaning, I think they are definitely unique to the person. However, for people who have similar backgrounds and lead similar lives, the meaning will necessarily be similar because they experience and relate to the world in similar ways. Wow, I wrote similar four times in one sentence.

Yeah, dreams definitely have personal meanings for the dreamer. Those dream interpretation books are rubbish.
But not all dreams are going to have some hidden meaning. Sometimes its just random stuff that doesn't mean anything. So the dreamer is the best person to interpret their own dreams.
