a friend's dream

i am new...hello

here is some (lots of) context, and a dream that a friend had last night.

for the past month, i've been hanging out with a very attractive, interesting girl who is 28 (i am 24). early on, we expressed interest in each other, but she was very vocal that we should establish a friendship first. so, we have spent a lot of time getting to know one another over the past month. she has a very demanding career, and is not shy about admitting that it's her top priority. she is also the type of person who is not actively seeking fulfillment from a relationship, but is open to it if something happens. in her past, she was engaged and pregnant, but lost the baby and also had a stressful break-up with her then fiancee. this was two years ago, and she has not had a significant relationship since. she has spent some time with several people, but never anything with incredible depth. she is extremely logical, intelligent, knowledgable, and more emotionally stable than any girl that i know.

i am 24, spent some time away from school, and have about a year of undergraduate school left. it has been obvious to me from the beginning that we are in very different places with our lives. considering that i am planning to attend graduate school, it will be at least two years before i enter my career field (psychology). anyhow, despite these glaring differences, we have enjoyed our time together. but, it has become apparent that i require more attention than she has the energy to give, which is due to her job.

last night, we had the conversation, and it left us both feeling that it was the right thing for the long-term; but we are both sad, because we have feelings for one another and enjoy spending time together. i told her that it would be hard for us to maintain the same kind of friendship, because it might be a reminder for me that i failed somehow (a totally different conversation). we talked for hours last night, and it was one of the best conversations that we've had. alas...

the dream...

in the dream, she is at my best friend's house with my best friend (male, lovable character), one of her co-workers (older woman), and an old acquaintance (male) from high school (whom she hasn't thought of in a long time). they are waiting to attend a wedding, which is only a short walk down the street. she is also pregnant in the dream. they are waiting for me to meet them, but i am at the fair with a girl. so, everyone is saying, "where is joe?" but, i am with another girl.
