      Question freaky coincidence

last night i dreamt i slit my brothers throat w/a black knife. as if that didn't freak me out enough this morning he told me he dreamt he was attacked by a white wolf and that he killed it by sliting its throat, as it was dying it transformed into me, he was shocked and told me he was sorry right before i died. any thoughts???

Dream like this challenge my belief system. It could be coincidence of course. Or it could be that the two of you are dreaming of something to do with your relationship. Or it could be something I don't yet believe in...

      hmm...

seems too similar to be a coincidence although i don't know what else it could be. i get what you said about our relationship, but we are really close and almost never fight, which is why it bothered me so much.

That makes sense. In our dreams we experience repressed stuff - i.e. what was aware to us briefly perhaps a long time ago but we didn't like it so filed it away (unconsciously). But feelings of hate etc never vanish, they either stay filed away or they come back to our awareness, such as in dreams.

What you experienced is probably something poorly researched, so anything I say will be just my take. I wonder if whatever triggered the dream for you also triggered the dream for him. If you're as close as you suggest it's entirely possible you have similar ways of processing stuff especially when it applies to both of you - i.e. stuff about your relationship. It's not common in our culture to think of a relationship as something tangible or with its own identity but some counselling/psychotherapy traditions will take this for granted. And I go along with that. We only exist in relation to other people. Relationships are very significant and have their own personalities, as it were, that are separate from the people which form them.

That's about as rational as I can get on something that probably can't be rationalised. But I find it helps me to accept some of the more mysterious goings-on which would otherwise require some kind of super-natural or esoteric belief system.
